When did Korea stop shitting out MMOs en masse? I feel like there haven't be many in the past few years compared to before when like every week there was a new WoW killer or something
Oh yeah, I forgot about mobileshit
Little disappointing even if I don't like all the copypaste kMMOs, at least it was fun to frick around with for a couple days then shit on them with Ganker
I know where you're coming from dude, Private Servers were neat when they were first a thing, but even Pre Big Bang ones now can't recapture the feeling
WonderKing is relaunching (in Korea) sometime this year after the original owner finally got rights back to the game
It was pretty much a Maple knock-off
Assuming we ever see it in the West I might give it a shot
korean players joke about how maplestory only exists nowadays to justify the good music.
?t=165
I wish they'd do more live orchestras especially for their older stuff
I really disagree, modern Maplestory is essentially a copypasta of modern Korean MMO design, it's full of dailies, weeklies, events with ridiculous rewards, events where you level up 3 times per level, you have to make 50 alts to give stats to your main, insane amount of p2w, 90% of the game is irrelevant, gameplay is not so interesting anymore with all the overpowered things they've done to the classes, 50 new classes that all do the same thing in different colors, speaking of which every class now has the same flash jump.
Not going to pretend pre-bb was any good either, without the massive playerbase it used to have, it's shit, the game was only able to stand as an actual game after big bang, things were getting better and better in those days but nobody wants to remember it because of the p2w that was being introduced.
>things were getting better and better in those days but nobody wants to remember it because of the p2w that was being introduced.
maplestory nostalgiagays piss me off because this is the one thing they get wrong. they complain about how bb ruined the game with p2w but refuse to acknowledge that both potential and gachapon were pre-big bang
Big Bang just enabled people to level up faster so they were able to reach the point where p2w would start to matter a bit, people tend to ignore it when it comes to pre-bb because they would never get past lvl 50 or so.

bb leveling wasn't really THAT much faster. after a few areas of flat multiplatform optimal training maps like mp3 and jesters getting to 3rd job wasn't really that hard and these were before dual blade. most noobs would end up reaching at least 80-90 before big bang. p2w was always a factor though because of 2x exp coupons, leech buying and also statless builds which you could only do if you had shit tons of meso, both letting you level up far faster than unfunded noobs could ever dream of. even after big bang most noobs still weren't even able to do zakum
Think you just missed the boat, after big bang there were some kino private servers that removed the p2w aspects and generally improved the game, they had very respectable populations too, pservers aren't as active as they used to be and nobody is really releasing versions other than pre-bb or cutting edge gms-like servers, the era inbetween was the best and it's lost to time.
I've been playing pre and post BB private servers on and off for a few years now. Each time I come back, it seems like the amount of servers and people playing them keep shrinking...feels bad. Gotta say I don't like the class remasters. My private server updated to the remasters and now I don't like Dark Knights move set :(.
i got back into a private server a few months back and realized that it wasn't just nostalgia that made me fond of the game - the game is actually still good
whoa I remember getting ganged up by 4 guys, they beat me until I gave them my money, couldn't move otherwise. i also remember getting stuck inside a dumb labyrint. so much soul...
I remember you used to have a random chance of dropping items when you died in L2. I ran mob trains onto bots, took their brigandine and made bank selling it to players for less than vendor price.
Glas' theme is still one of my favorite Mabinogi songs
I still love how the main theme plays in the middle of the song, sort of a like a glimmer of hope in an otherwise hopeless fight
And then the dungeon leading up to Glas had a very hectic version of his theme mixed in at the very end of the song

Any good private servers just to remind myself of what I lost?
Pretty much you've missed the boat on major RO private servers
Gravity went hard with Lawsuits on the bigger ones fairly recently, and most have closed down out of fear of being next
everytime I see mabinogi I'm reminded of burlyfish but due to search engines getting shittier I've never been able to find the screen cap from that thread, and of course this is when requests had to be made to archive threads which was down at the time.
I'll return when Mabinogi Mobile comes out to give it a shot
current Mabinogi currently offers me nothing that I'm interested in, other than skill grinding just for the chance to be able to play with Total Level 50k+ people because of how far behind new players are vs vets who still play
not even sure if people still play together anymore
I would but i would be a fricking insect compared to all the vets. Also, some of the newer movesets suck. Had fun on that mabipro private servet years ago atleast. Even if i did return to mabi, i feel like im too "normal", because you had alot of anime degenerates on mabi. Good times.
>Ragnarok >Mabinogi >Shitty
Fight me. Ragnarok perfected the sandbox MMO and mabinogi perfected player generated content. I remember the early days people gathered around camp fires playing Naruto themes on the lute and trying to break the barriers first to have your name immortalized. Good times.
this. from prelude to interlude it was by far the best pvp MMO ever created. Nothing ever will come close, I pity people who didn't play it back in its glory days.
>before they cucked the game
what did they change?
incredibly greedy p2w elements, broken classes that fricked up the balance, then homogenization of classes. shit like auto-hunting and auto-buffs. It's mostly the first part though, they went really deep with the p2w, I've never seen anything like it.
Deleted my CB2 character long ago so I wouldn't come back. It's shit now, has been shit for a while, but was fun before and a year after closed beta. The orc/blue trumpy license grind was real.
Mabinogi is unironically one of the best games ever made. Very few games have anything close to the same level of depth in terms of character progression and customization. Not to mention the responsive real time action combat and all the weird and fun little mechanics like weight gain and npc relationships, many of which admittedly are underutilized.
>Want to get back into Mabi >Have to get JB to r1 for reaper and a +25 Ego weapon for pragarah
Mabinogi's fun but I wish gear progression and skilling for stats wasn't a pain in the ass, especially with Master Plan.
It's ok I guess. Combat is still great, but for the past few years they've been pushing a lot for maxing your equip only to have to replace it after a while. I wouldn't call it a whale only game, but whales now have loads more things to throw money at so they can be better than others. I still think that Ignition patch was a mistake and so was S2, game up to the original final boss was incredible
They all have amazing music and aesthetic but the gameplay is and always was complete dogshit. Since they were social hubs it doesn't actually matter tho.
I started playing LT again, it's shitty but in a much more tolerable way than MS is; you can grind 20 hours a day in LT and see significant progress in a direction that advances your account; you can grind 24 hours a day for 1.5 years in MS and barely see a difference, but the end result of that is required to be able to advance, so it feels like you make no progress and is not fun during any stage of the grinding.
they fixed that in the laboom update late last year, the first thing I noticed when I came back is the lockstep is entirely fixed, you land when you jump where it shows on your screen and you don't teleport to a different spot/overshoot something it looked like you hit.
The main thing I have to be grateful for is the wealth of knowledge afforded to me. I'm gonna conquer the world someday so kino will be front and center, while commercialism will be dead..
I genuinely feel bad for you, the internet and MMOs evolved in such a bad way, nothing today compares to how amazing these games were, I was born in 97 and I just barely got to enjoy these games growing up and it makes me wish I was born earlier so I could have experienced them fully.
the last good MMO that actually was based on social interaction in the open world instead of queueing for loot pinata PVE without ever having to talk to another player was a korean MMO
>tfw your friends would message you over msn dragging you into a new mmo every week >getting deep into them and meeting tons of interesting people >the moronic fake marriages and relationships that people took seriously
good times.
a kid from a different class introduced me to RO, LaTale, and S4 League. A friend I hadn't talked to in years introduced me to GunZ.
All in all 2005-2011 was full of Korean Kino
I fricking loved Fiesta man, doing PQ's as a tank as such a fun time and setting up your shop for the first time as well. I think I got to like level 38 and quit before the grind got to me and I moved on to other games
I remember there being a period recently where there were lots of chinese MMOs coming out and restoring hope because they were creating much higher quality games, but they always had some massive issues under the surface that killed them instantly, since then there's literally been almost nothing, the only game I can even think of that we've gotten is lost ark, which is okay but still a far cry from what I'm interested in, the popularity of it shows that there's still a market for these games though, just that nobody is tapping into it.
WoW going off tge deep end with all the wokeness will see the end of that era hopefully.
Might see a resurgence afterwards, but people seem to be afraid of unknown IPs.
genshin is kind of the poster child for this except for some reason it remained relevant for long enough that it has been getting larger and larger updates per dev cycle because of the amount of funds they have built up.
To be fair it's not an MMO, it's a mobile gacha game with a pc client, I think zoomers are just bricked and have gambling addictions thanks to gacha games so we hardly see any classic asian MMOs now.
the private server ephinea has a healthy population still with an active economy using in game currency for trading. closest you'll get to the original experience
pso2 got killed by pso2ngs, stoped receiving updates and season passes.
saddly there is nothing out there right now that feels like pso2 besides pso2ngs, which is still very barebones with lack of progression and no real endgame.... with all that being said i still think its worth a shot
NGS was so wierd. I tried at launch. Making my character and options are 2 or 3 NGS options while the rest is the old options. Felt so...not ready to release
>Felt so...not ready to release
That's because it wasn't.
SoJ pushed it out an entire year early to recoup their losses from that failed Sakura Wars gacha which bombed spectacularly.
Still feels like they only have a skeleton crew working on what's supposed to be a major tentpole release for them regardless, even to this day.
it isnt much better now, they released 2 new zones and level cap is 60 now, braver and bouncer got released but the game still massively undercooked.
all the classes have a maximum of 4 photon arts, the new zones play exactly the same as each other with grind areas that you're supposed to stay in for hours while grinding pso bursts and endgame gear that you're supposed to farm for weeks is actually not even an upgrade compared to other gear that is much easier to obtain.
the game is just a fricking MESS but theres nothing like it out there right now imo, still feels like pso2 in a way with the combat and the aesthetic i guess
I really miss the simplicity of these games, make a character, instantly dropped into the world and you do whatever you want, no moronic handholding, no main story zooming you to level cap and the """endgame""", just a big ass game to explore and things to look forward to every step of the way.
Also the insane grindiness bottlenecking people into beginner/mid level areas was extremely good for player retention, a sense of shared suffering and never feeling like the game is dead because most people are right there in the beginner areas with you.
Agreed. I love the simple, lightweight feel of older games in general. You started the game and you were on your way. I can't pickup most of these shitty new games if for no other reason than it takes so fricking long to just get on your way, if you're even ever able to not have your hand held.
You would be a noob slowly grinding away and some high level player grinding the same area parties up with you for the xp boost from partying since you would only get a small slice of the xp anyways due to your low level. Those were the days, man. Sometimes, depending on the game/economy/drops they would drop a bunch of items too because they were trash to them, but they'd be worth something to you. Frick i wanna go back
Damn shame Flyff Universe turned out the way it did, but with Gala Inc as its publisher, there really wasn't any other fate it could've been dealt.
Still probably the most promising 1x server out there, and did bring some long-overdue QoL for certain classes... But it's still a multibox-driven hellscape with a terrible community, and somehow even MORE pay2win than the original. Also completely gutted Psykeeper, for some reason.
The outright need to multibox 24/7 (because everyone's already partied-up with their own personally-controlled pocket healer) was really what killed it for me, honestly. Why would I want to do nothing but play with myself in what's supposed to be a multiplayer environment, especially as a Ringmaster main?
For real. Absolute cancer in every game where it isn't cracked-down on without question, and FlyffU was/is unfortunately no exception.
Dualboxing was the expected standard everywhere you went, and you were a fool for trying to play the game with just a single character otherwise (how dare you want to play an MMO like an MMO?).
Some people were multiboxing EIGHT (8) accounts at once, to maximize their own personal party EXP bonus. An entire fricking raid's worth of mules, just for ~30% more EXP per-kill. What an absolute farce.
Man, why did they have to ruin this game with constantly adding gear slots. Fricking Korean autists. Blade and Soul had the most fun tanking I've ever played.
We can make it better by posting that lyn preset already. But yeah I never got that far. I just get a few levels in then quit since I never had anyone to play with really.
Anon, I appreciate your devotion to Lyn, as a Lyn enjoyer myself. But I'm gonna be real with you as someone who used to play BnS from 2016-2019:
That preset was floating around various Chinese sharing sites during the earlier years of the title, but most (if not all?) of the old preset/screenshot hubs for BnS have long-since gone offline by this point (BnS Fashion being foremost among them), due to the game's waning popularity over the years.
Trying to find presets for BnS is like trying to find working model mods for FFXI. They're out there somewhere (maybe), but a good majority of them have simply become lost.
Your best bet is to just toy with the character builder, and try your best.
Blade&Soul has a very solid character creation station, probably one of the best in the business, so I'm sure you'll come up with something similar with enough patience.
Just remember to shrink head size down to -18, and work from a test mule to see what your creation actually looks like in-game, since it can be tough to tell the scale of things in the character creator at times.
This isn't a perfect reference point (as they're always wearing clothing of some sort), but here's a screencap gallery from one of the more-prolific Lyn on Pixiv from back in the day (featuring the preset you're fawning over): https://www.pixiv.net/en/users/3735930
Sorry, I wish I could help but I doubt most of the presets are even hosted anywhere anymore. I have my old blade dancer alt character preset still but I made mine as big as I could.
Reminder that Maple is still going strong, and still a good game even today (just a horrifyingly expensive one). >inb4 Anon who haven't played it since 2004-2007 stomp their feet and scream otherwise
There's always pre-BB private servers out there to get your nostalgia fix with if that's what you're after anyway. Modern Maple is fun in its own way.
Maple was shit pre-bb and went to shit after bb when everything became too damn expensive.
At this point with the way cubing is it's just too far gone.

You now remember dragon saga. There's a server with a fairly decent but french playerbase i play on occasionally and the game just oozes soul. I wonder how the official na server is doing, they haven't shut down and actually released an expansion which was the last thing i expected
This game was extremely good for its time, I played the frick out of it, met so many friends and had so many good times, the day the EU server shut down was a blow to my soul, tried some pservers over the years but it's just not the same.
Isn't Ghost Online still alive (surprisingly)?
I remember another anon mentioning it some time ago and was surprised to see it still had a site and appeared to still be up and running
Slightly outside the range of early 2000s KMMOs.
It is or at least was pretty great, though. Still probably has the best action combat of any MMO to this day, really.
I miss Ragnarok so much, bros... It's not fair.
I just want to go back to the long afternoons I spent with my brother and his classmate playing it on a shitty crt monitor
For me it was Granado Espada(changed to "Sword of the New World" for NA at one point). I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this game was turned into a mobile gacha, it has all the qualities of one.
>has a large number of characters you can collect through story and quests >some characters are premium with some coming from loot boxes >actual loot boxes that carried gear >auto attack system(this one was actually kind of cool)
it's crazy just how many of these korean mmos there were and now there are none, except the ones that somehow made it (maplestory) and are on permanent life support
with how big gaming is in korea i'm still surprised there are no smaller companies making new mmos, i guess they're all focusing on gachashit
It may be shitty but mabinogi's combat mogs WoW's. If the gear wasn't p2w I could make a serious argument about it being a better game.
>Ragnarok
>Shitty
It's unironically one of the best MMORPGs ever made

Lol
Yes anon a 2d korean MMO from 2001 is better than whatever other garbage you might be comparing it to right now and I mean it.
>proceeds to sit right in front of your corpse

Copium. 2d mmos will never be as soulful or inmersive as 3d ones.
2D mmos are nothing but soul, they rely completely on charm and nothing else

Anon,it is just grinding to max level
It sucks
When did Korea stop shitting out MMOs en masse? I feel like there haven't be many in the past few years compared to before when like every week there was a new WoW killer or something
There's still hundreds of them, they are just all on mobile now since you make 100x the profit there.

Sucks

cute!
Never, they still pump out a ton of them, they either just don't get released outside of Korea or they're all on moble. Usually both.

I miss maple. I can't get back into it no matter how hard i try. Both pre and postBB. Maybe one day there will be another 2D pixel mmo like it.
I know where you're coming from dude, Private Servers were neat when they were first a thing, but even Pre Big Bang ones now can't recapture the feeling

Why is Maple music so good
Years later and I can still recall these tracks perfectly
I'll chalk part up to nostalgia but the music really was good
Damn guess something went wrong with my Sound Image there
the songs are good in isolation - its not just nostalgia
korean players joke about how maplestory only exists nowadays to justify the good music.

I'm having fun in reboot playing with my brother. It's nothing like old times, but that's to be expected, the old times are never coming back.

I got back into it this summer and have been having a nice time. NA Reboot has had more people logging in than the server can handle.
I remember someone scamming me out of some event item called maplehontas back then.
Gotta watch it every time it's posted
I've been playing pre and post BB private servers on and off for a few years now. Each time I come back, it seems like the amount of servers and people playing them keep shrinking...feels bad. god I miss pre gacha grindan mmos
for me it's trickster online and fiesta
is silk road any good?
frick no, the grind is horrid even by Korean MMO standards
its the sort of thing a child would play if they had no other options
anyone play this gem
I did, don't recall much about it other than getting some sort of armor from a skeleton dungeon.
this wasnt korean but I played the frick out of it

If nexon stop being stupid they would have made a mabi 2 alread that just a updated Mabi. They should finalize the story of one and make something new

Can you imagine a game that penalized being bad as hard as this game did being released today?
frick no.
This is why maplestory pservers were a huge thing, they essentially turned it into that, you could grind as much as you want and make insane progress
Honestly I'd like latale more if gameplay wasn't server based, because holy frick it feels bad compared to maple
they fixed that in the laboom update late last year, the first thing I noticed when I came back is the lockstep is entirely fixed, you land when you jump where it shows on your screen and you don't teleport to a different spot/overshoot something it looked like you hit.
Huh? Guess I should give it a try then
Being born in 2004 it's surreal seeing how all of this cool shit was going on while I was barely conscious.
You really missed out, I hope you got your own wild west somewhere else.
The main thing I have to be grateful for is the wealth of knowledge afforded to me. I'm gonna conquer the world someday so kino will be front and center, while commercialism will be dead..
I really like that attitude, anon. Good on you. And good luck with whatever you do.
I genuinely feel bad for you, the internet and MMOs evolved in such a bad way, nothing today compares to how amazing these games were, I was born in 97 and I just barely got to enjoy these games growing up and it makes me wish I was born earlier so I could have experienced them fully.
MOOOOODS THERE'S A 44.109589041095894% CHANCE THAT THIS PERSON IS UNDERAGE, QUICK, BAN HIM
>born in 2001
>tfw had just enough time to get a sample of what it was like before it all vanished
ENTER
the last good MMO that actually was based on social interaction in the open world instead of queueing for loot pinata PVE without ever having to talk to another player was a korean MMO
>that period in time that a new korean mmo would launch every single week
that shit was crazy
Back then I'd go to MMOHuts youtube daily to see what MMO to try out out
I remember going on MMOhut or similar sites and perusing through their database for a new mmo to try out every weekend.
>tfw your friends would message you over msn dragging you into a new mmo every week
>getting deep into them and meeting tons of interesting people
>the moronic fake marriages and relationships that people took seriously
good times.
a kid from a different class introduced me to RO, LaTale, and S4 League. A friend I hadn't talked to in years introduced me to GunZ.
All in all 2005-2011 was full of Korean Kino
frick I remember those times man
>hi guys this is omer from mmodotcom
>Last video from a year ago
Frick you.
>Lineage 2
One of the only games that I found human females sexier than elven females.
Also, posting most aesthetic set in the game.
What's the closest mmo to play if I want to get dot hack feels?
.hack, or the SAO games maybe. MMO? probably none.
Probably PSO2
PSO 1 is probably a bit closer, right?
True, if you are willing to play the private server (if its still up, its been a while since I played it).
the private server ephinea has a healthy population still with an active economy using in game currency for trading. closest you'll get to the original experience
pso2 got killed by pso2ngs, stoped receiving updates and season passes.
saddly there is nothing out there right now that feels like pso2 besides pso2ngs, which is still very barebones with lack of progression and no real endgame.... with all that being said i still think its worth a shot
Still feels like they only have a skeleton crew working on what's supposed to be a major tentpole release for them regardless, even to this day.
it isnt much better now, they released 2 new zones and level cap is 60 now, braver and bouncer got released but the game still massively undercooked.
all the classes have a maximum of 4 photon arts, the new zones play exactly the same as each other with grind areas that you're supposed to stay in for hours while grinding pso bursts and endgame gear that you're supposed to farm for weeks is actually not even an upgrade compared to other gear that is much easier to obtain.
the game is just a fricking MESS but theres nothing like it out there right now imo, still feels like pso2 in a way with the combat and the aesthetic i guess
if you didn't play yogurting you missed out
mabinogi bros...

I didn't expect that to make me tear up so much. God damn.
Frick i wanna go back
for me it's flyff
Nothing kills my interest in an MMO faster than hearing "multibox".
Don't look at steparus channel unless you want extreme depression.
>oh hey what's steparu up to these da-
wall of gacha shit, poor guy they finally broke him
Imagine not knowing what silkroad online is fricking dorks that was the best game ever
Far fetched but since this is a shitty korean mmo thread does anyone have this Lyn preset?
I used to play a low rate private RO server, was peak comfy. I sorta miss those days but I don't miss the niff grind.
Not going to pretend pre-bb was any good either, without the massive playerbase it used to have, it's shit, the game was only able to stand as an actual game after big bang, things were getting better and better in those days but nobody wants to remember it because of the p2w that was being introduced.
>no Black Desert
Cringe
You know that came out in 2015 right? All the games listed came out in the 00s
I don't care
Add it anyways because it's still shit
No it’s shit and still alive
Grand Chase had some bangers
Elsword too
You now remember dragon saga. There's a server with a fairly decent but french playerbase i play on occasionally and the game just oozes soul. I wonder how the official na server is doing, they haven't shut down and actually released an expansion which was the last thing i expected
This game was extremely good for its time, I played the frick out of it, met so many friends and had so many good times, the day the EU server shut down was a blow to my soul, tried some pservers over the years but it's just not the same.
the pvp from this game was real good despite how broken certain team battles can be, it was real fun. I still miss it.
i remember that as ghost online
Isn't Ghost Online still alive (surprisingly)?
I remember another anon mentioning it some time ago and was surprised to see it still had a site and appeared to still be up and running
idk, I know it got re-released as soul saver online but I didn't play that version so I have no clue what happened to it
trickster
>no Vindictus
Slightly outside the range of early 2000s KMMOs.
It is or at least was pretty great, though. Still probably has the best action combat of any MMO to this day, really.
I miss Ragnarok so much, bros... It's not fair.
I just want to go back to the long afternoons I spent with my brother and his classmate playing it on a shitty crt monitor
i consider playing a pre-bb maplestory or trickster pserver annually, and it seems to be about that time...
what trickster servers are there?
>There will never be an S4 league game ever
For me it was Granado Espada(changed to "Sword of the New World" for NA at one point). I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this game was turned into a mobile gacha, it has all the qualities of one.
>has a large number of characters you can collect through story and quests
>some characters are premium with some coming from loot boxes
>actual loot boxes that carried gear
>auto attack system(this one was actually kind of cool)
>no elsword
>no grandchase
have a nice day
it's crazy just how many of these korean mmos there were and now there are none, except the ones that somehow made it (maplestory) and are on permanent life support
with how big gaming is in korea i'm still surprised there are no smaller companies making new mmos, i guess they're all focusing on gachashit
