if the devs are smart then acid not only damages you, but also degrades your equipment. Toxic should poison your character for tick damage. Not sure if anygame does that though
i assume you have to be touching the acid to take damage and even then, your armor goes first (or atleast you take reduced damage till armor breaks). Toxic is AoE and takes down your hp while leaving your armor untouched
