They SHOULD be weak to Ice, Electric AND Poison. That last one especially cuz even a smaller dosage of poison kills bugs easily. Also Water, cuz insects breathe through their skin and get dragged in water unable to escape due to water tension
Idk. I like the idea of Bug Types being weak to like 10 different Types but making up for it and still being useful cuz they have some highly valuable innate quality no one else has
Bug shouldn't be a type, it isn't an element. The weakness chart doesn't make any because it's all arbitrary and only loosely makes some amount of logical sense some of the time
The typing system in general should be redesigned to consist of two strata of classification, "Elemental" types (Fire, Water, Electric, etc.) and "Phenotype" (Bug, Flying, Dragon, etc.), the difference between what powers a pokemon has and what it's actual place in the natural world is

Not sure if Pokemon itself should be reworked, but if I was making a new monster-catching RPG I'd do something like this:

so what should they be good against?

yeah, jobbing
immune to damaging hazards because they're small enough to fit between the rocks/spikes. as a tradeoff they take -2 speed from Sticky Web.
Theoretically, everything should be weak to Electric and Fire.
not rock or ground
Show me a pokemon that could survive this.
what makes a normal type survive this less?
It does more damage than a punch, a tidal wave, or any normal attack. That's what supereffective means to me.
That's Steel tho, not fire.
actually it's mostly gas therefore it's poison
actually it's mostly hydrogen and helium, therefore water/flying
actually it's mostly plasma therefore it's electric
Arceus?
Jobbed to cement mix
>sizzlipede's flash fire!
>Well-Baked Body
gen 9 has so many dexfiller shitmons but i will always love dog bread. "overdesigned" but cute as frick.
Used it in Scarlet.
Loved to miss Play Rough, but cool to use.
Suns eventually give out. Cold is the natural resting state of the universe and always wins in the end.
Normal-types being weak to these would have fixed Gen 1 and 2 competitive.
what about normal type would make it more weak to electricity and fire than any other type?
The hairy woodland critters that make up 80% of the type are more flammable than bugs
Why would ground, rock or steel be weak to electric?
Water should be weak to Ice, not resist it. Ice freezes Water.
Steel should be weak to Water. Water rusts Steel.

no etc.s, five us the full lists
*give
as in, I want to know all the types in both categories
Not sure if Pokemon itself should be reworked, but if I was making a new monster-catching RPG I'd do something like this:
Attacking types
>fire
>water
>ice
>thunder
>cursed
>holy
Defensive types
>flame
>aquatic
>cold
>machine
>mineral
>plant
>mammal
>insect
>reptile
>flying
>armored
>undead
>fairy
