I liked the remaster and think it's worth getting if you're just looking to play the base game but the OG version has a larger repertoire of mods to play around with just on the virtue of being out for nearly two decades now.
just buy the remaster, it comes with both. then when the remaster has good mods finished, you can switch between the two.
i really wanted to play it but im getting missing combase.dll error, even downloaded it but then it just changed into other errors, sadly its not happening and im not downloading 45gb "remaster" the same reason im not buying warhammer my pc sucks and i dont have ssd big enough for those games.
If the Remaster is that big for you, check if you have the free 4K graphics DLC enabled and disable it.
i managed to make old version work, gotta say the first thing which hit me was how good soundtack is in this game

they changed the SOVL main menu into a still image and replaced it's music.

Tbh the mobile version is way better than I expected
I'm guessing collection comes with Alexander whereas gold doesn't but idk, may be the other way around

lol Alexander really does deserve the dubious honor of being the first TW release people absolutely hated.
Remaster has a lot of important fixes and quality of life features. People b***h about the UI but after playing the remaster and going back to the old UI, I'll stick with remaster.
Did the remaster fix the shitty overworld map AI?

whats the point off allying AI in this game? is there some kind of cooldown where you cant attack that player or you can just break it off any moment without and repercussions
It improved the AI but it probably still does dumb stuff

If you're on Windows 10 then you can't even play OG Rome anymore without it running at a silky smooth 15 FPS
