Should I get a Switch OLED? I still have my old Switch (the 2017 model) but the battery life has been awry for the last couple of months. My local GAME shop has them on sale for like £270 which is a good 10% off.
And before a smartass asks, I also already have a steam deck.
Nothing Ever Happens Shirt $21.68 |
>GAME shop has them on sale for like £270
How much is this in a relevant currency?
like $350 but thats with taxes included.
>$350 but thats with taxes included
Jesus that's a steal. What the frick, why doesn't my local area get sales like this?
its actually 325 lol.
dont be jealous american anon, we usually get fricked i the ass 90% of the time versus you.
OLEDs still have burn in and don't most people play their switches docked 90% of the time?
Pretty sure that’s just the old panels, like from 2016
That's just marketing. There is no way to solve burn-in or LED degradation because that's how the technology inherently works.
all tv's degrade over time
Yes, but not as fast as OLED does.
not really, you'd want to replace an IPS tv by the time any burn-in even begins to become even slightly noticeable on OLED these days.
If you're a braindead consumerist prostitute, maybe. I want my electronics to last as much as possible.
Not to mention, even without burn-in OLED degrades quickly. It loses brightness and color incredibly fast.
seething commie, again the slightly faster degrading OLED is worth escaping IPS glow hell and you'd replace each TV at roughly the same time anyway
>seething commie
Lmao.
>again the slightly faster degrading OLED
"Slightly"? Anon, after 2000 hours even the most premium of OLED panels lose over 30 % of brightness.
OLEDgays are so disingenuous. The problems with OLED are gigantic and very noticeable. If and even if consumers were so moronic to not notice (or care) that their panels go to shit after a year of use, they will not notice the "grayish" blacks of IPS or the light bleed which only happens on cheap as frick panels anyway.
>you'd replace each TV at roughly the same time anyway
Nobody replaces their TVs every 2 years. Consumers only buy OLED because marketing tells them it's the best, as soon as you show them how fast they degrade they don't want to buy them.
By the way, even Samsung is moving away from OLED. QLED has LEDs only in name and their biggest benefit is that they don't degrade or burn nearly as fast as OLED does.
burn-in is overstated
you would need to leave the same image on at max brightness for like 4000 hours to get burn in. Stop fear mongering.
Yeah
aren't 2017 models hackable? why would you want to change to non hackable one lol
Just wait for the next model for the switch instead. You can just replace the battery on your switch bro
>Should I get a Switch OLED? I still have my old Switch (the 2017 model) but
bruh
its the same fricking thing
just replace the battery
>OLED is just like IPS
lol
It's very, very similar. Don't believe the hype and marketing
>OLED black is basically the same as IPS black
lol
not him but
>man this 720p screen looks somewhat better than this other 720p screen
its just not worth upgrading
it is absolutely worth upgrading to get out of IPS glow hell. Better blacks means improved color and contrast too
I'd wait as I honestly believe they are delaying BotW2 to be in line with whatever the next iteration of Switch is.
This 2000%. Nintendo isn’t moronic. Breath of the Wild had basically a 1:1 attach rate for the Switch and was the sole reason a lot of people bought one. They’re going to try and emulate the launch of the Switch with Switch 2 by having Botw2 a launch title.
No. OLED panels degrade like crazy, they flicker at low light and suffer from burn in. Don't buy a Switch OLED unless you want to buy a new one in a few years to replace the dying screen.
You're better just replacing the dying battery on the old one. It's much cheaper too.
Cope
I literally haven't touch my switch since I got a steam deck, if you have a ton of money then sure but I hardly see the purpose. At the rate Yuzu development I imagine even BOTW2 will play fine on a Steam Deck when it eventually comes out.
yes consoom consoom
seething commie
jailbreak the old one for deck emulation and get the OLED for stuff the deck can't do, like the "quality emulation" of the expansion pack (i kid, but you get what i mean, as a "if the deck doesn't work" solution)
I'd argue your current switch is more valuable since you can jailbreak it and run custom firmware etc... Before the Steam Deck came out, the switch was basically the king of emulation. Even if it's not as good as the deck it's still a good platform to emulate games on. So what I'd recommend is just waiting for if a new model comes out. Though I must admit that £270 for an OLED model is very tempting bargain.
sell your Steam Deck and buy a switch oled
Neither. Get something better.
>pic unrelated
LMAO Imagine whipping this thing out anywhere
what problem
>what if we just put analog sticks on a laptop
That thing is idiotic.
Alright, cheers lads. I guess I won't get a new switch and just replace the battery. Though I'm not gonna jailbreak it since I actually like playing with my friends online on it.
Just curious, what games do you even play online on the switch?
Mario Kart, Splatoon and Smash which are pretty much the only reason why people even play online on the switch. Though Switch Sports and Mario Party were pretty fun too.
>smash "online"
>literal 5-6 frames of delay on every input
lmao, lol.
It's shit but can't do much sadly. I also find Slippy kind of shit too
if you only care about battery life, get the latest non-OLED model. It has more hours of play than the OLED.
Alternatively, order a new battery from Aliexpress or something and replace it on your current switch.
I'd hold off bong friend as there might be a new model early next year to go with botw2
WTF
I don't fricking get it. Ive had mine since day 1 and treat it like shit compared to my other consoles and it literally still looks and plays as good as new
Same. Had drift problems but easily fixed with some recalibration
