I'm an original hardware moron, and I was wondering which would be a good investment. They're worth around the same if I also get a Fenrir Duo for the Saturn.

FXPak Pro. Super Nintendo has way more games worth playing.
Saturn + Fenrir.
You can always easily emulate the SNES.
>I'm an original hardware moron.
And so am I, but this is how I choose what to get. If you gotta play on console, you could probably find a used FXPAK or Super Everdrive for cheap on eBay.
I've been browsing eBay for a while trying to find a reasonable deal, but nothing came to me, I can only find Chinese knockoffs and not any that can play games with special chips
Just had a look at eBay myself. You're not wrong about difficulty finding proper carts. Even the sold listings are pretty bare.
Unless you really want to play SNES games right now, I'd still go with the Saturn + Fenrir. Ignoring the period where Krikzz was trying to get out of the Ukraine, his store, and other storefronts like StoneAgeGamer, tend to always have stock available. And if they don't, they usually get stuff in back soon.
I guess I'll get the Saturn then. I might get the FXPak Pro sometime in the future. Thanks
>investment
there's that word again
FXPak Pro will probably hold its price for a while until there is a new revision, but you'll be buying high, especially since there will be a holiday sale soon. Could result in being able to flip the SNES for a higher overall price.
The Saturn will probably continue to go up in price slowly, at least until retro gaming and hardware collection dies as a hobby which isn't likely. Being too cheap to get a Satiator instead of a drive replacement may adversely affect your return, especially if you don't keep the drive.
Oh sorry I meant personal investment, like which one I would get the most enjoyment out of. I guess that comes down to if I like 16 or 32 bit games more
There's always the Super Everdrive if you want something cheap that plays like 99% of the SNES library.
go with the saturn, lots more variety. i myself ordered a chink clone of the sd2snes for cheap and im gonna be reporting on /vr/ how it is soon
as based as that is all of those chink drives are just everdrives old designs stolen.
The sd2snes is open source
Oh wow no wonder krikzz and friends gave up on making something great and are selling that thing
>making something great
What features is the FXpak missing? Apart from an untranslated jrpg, two Shogi games and two other things I don't remember it has perfect compatability. My only complaint when I bought it was it was kind of pricey.
Don't get me wrong it's feature rich, but there are things that set it apart from other top tier carts. The save states don't just werk with everything and there are various minor annoyances afoot. Like the episodic satellaview games requiring you to move the saves around on your computer. Or having to get off your ass to hit reset after you save on a msu 1 game. Stuff like the nes and genesis have flashcarts that will practically get on their knees and suck you off
>Stuff like the nes and genesis have flashcarts that will practically get on their knees and suck you off.
Wait, the NES has more flash carts? Also, are you talking about the Meg SD? I thought people hated that thing
PlayStation
OP is definitely not looking for the console with the worst fricking ODE options of all time
I've never heard bad things about Xstation. Was thinking more of the library as a whole though
I would go with PS1 or Dreamcast before going for the Saturn. If you like 2D there's also PCE Duo if you can find one for a decent price.
Get both eventually, but if you want the better of the two libraries at your disposal, go for the FXPak Pro first. Snes simply has more great games.
Snes is just better. Although the fxpak pro ties with the gba mini for the worst "high end" everdrives, at least in my experience. Not that there's anything better available, and they're still good. I have a Saturn too and it's fun but come on man you don't get a Saturn before snes
don't waste your money on a saturn + ode. get a psuedo saturn cart for 20 bucks off aliexpress and a cheap japanese saturn. all the games worth playing on saturn can be burned to a cd and play just fine
I doubt either is a good investment. You missed the bandwagon. If you need to choose one or the other your best investment is instant noodles. They'll keep you alive when an unexpected $300 expense leaves your tummy growling.
Just an FYI, VA8, VA10, and VA11 have issues with video output or incompatibility issues with some games. Also, you may need to replace the AV port on your Saturn. The two Saturns that I owned had issues with a loose AV port that I wound up replacing later on.
