Every Pokemon player should, there's lots of benefits
Unless you're a fatlus fan, nothing in the 3DS' library is worth playing.
homebrewing a 3ds still lets you play the entire library of ds, gba, and gbc games
That's my point, it's necessary to crack it.
it can play the entire NDS and GBA library as well
Atlus games mog Pokemon so hard it's unreal, I don't know why you wouldn't be into Atlus as a Pokemon fan. SMT is just Pokemon but better.
Depends on what do you want
Right now homebrewing is completely free
If you choose to do so use https://3ds.hacks.guide/ as the tech evolves fast enough for videos to be outdated
>pokemon bank
In March 2023, homebrew ironically became the only way to install Bank if you never owned it before
It became free at the same time and will work until further notice as it's unaffected by Nintendo's online service closures
>multiplayer
Hacking your console is necessary to access alternative multiplayer servers like Pretendo as a Wimmfi-like DNS change isn't enough (still works on the Wii U, with limitations)
Pokemon is being worked on, but no ETA iirc
>homebrew apps
Anemone3DS lets you use custom themes
Checkpoint is a save manager
PKSM is some kind of mini-pkhex / bank for gen 1-7 games
TWiLight Menu lets you play DS roms without a flashcard
CTGP-7 is a hacked version of Mario Kart 7 with extra circuits, characters and features
Universal Updater is a homebrew app store
and so on
>flashcards
homebrewing unbans the few DS flashcards that were recognized and ignored by the system
>arrrrrgh!
3hs/hshop can be used to download and install 3ds games, updates and DLC directly on your console
Has the issue been fixed where the system would crash if you attempted a home menu reset?
I’m fixated on all the system’s built-in features still working as if it was never modified afterwards
I just tried it and it worked
>homebrew ironically became the only way to install Bank if you never owned it before
Good, I was wondering about that.
I need to get my 3DS repaired, which probably requires the motherboard being replaced, which would erase my access to Bank.
You might want to make sure you transfer over the system data. Bank uses the Nintendo network id instead of storing stuff to your console, if your new motherboard doesn't have that info you might not be able to register it with the servers down which would lock you out of your existing bank boxes.
yes, there's literally zero reason not to.
Unless you intend to sell it, yes. Its so worth it
I've seen people pre-installing homebrew and pokemon bank or hshop to sell it at a markup
Don't know if this really works though
Im sure it works, and ethically selling a device that you customly programmed for a purpose is something ethically done, but you do put yourself at a huge liability for some combo of breaking ToS and profiting off of it using modded software, which should be fine if you fly under the radar, but the internet never forgets and your transaction will forever be available in records. If you arent afraid of that, youre welcome to take thst risk.
>but the internet never forgets and your transaction will forever be available in records.
bless my 3rd world shithole where you can do that in person and with cash only
unironically yes, and not just for pokemon, even if that might be the main appeal for you, because you can make your 3ds do so much for you, from custom games, apps and cosmetics, running nintendo's entire retro library of games aside from wii, gamecube and n64(and that's only if you have an old 3ds), and pirating literally whatever 3ds game you could ever want(plus running multiplayer on them despite servers being down through pretendo). i was originally somewhat hesitant to do it myself because i really cherish my 3ds and didn't want to brick it(bought it on launch), but once i finally grew some balls and did it i was genuinely astonished at just how comically easy it is to do, especially if your 3ds isn't already on the final firmware nintendo released. i was able to coach one of my most tech-illiterate friends(doesn't even know what task manager is) through the process over purely text chat in 15 minutes, it's seriously that simple, and there's really no reason not to now that nintendo has completely abandoned the console.
some of the stuff like pirating 3ds games is an itty-bitty bit more involved and requires knowledge that can easily be found online(if you have the rom as a .3ds file, you need to convert it into a .cia through gm9, then install the .cia file to your console itself through fbi), but unless you plan on making your own software everything is just so streamlined and easy to grasp, there's nothing to lose as long as you aren't literally moronic and go out of your way to disobey directions.
YES. My 3DS can play every Pokemon game from gen 1-7 with NSUI and 3DS CIA injects, not to mention Twilight Emulator tgimg (although I use an R4 card)
Does the latest/last version of 3DS firmware have a version of homebrew for it?
Getting kinda annoyed at the "you must update your system" message for the one I got.
Yes.
In addition to everything mentioned so far, Twilight Menu plays almost every DS game now, and you can run GBA code natively with open_agb_firm, no more VC injecting.
Also, the new 3DS can run retroarch well enough to emulate PS1 games.
It's an EOL console, there's no reason not to.

OP image makes me want to open a Lana thread so badly. I'm not even into homebrew.
the 3DS has become something I barely used, to something I use more than my switch, just because hshop gives me the beauty of grabbing any game I want at any time, and by golly god that makes me happy.
if infinite games for the low low price of a 0.002% chance of bricking your console when you hack it sounds cool to you, then I'd say do it!
