I do miss the ability to use Wonder trade with Japanese people sending me Grubbins, and picking up chicks on the Festival Plaza in Sun & Moon. I've literally added people on Snapchat through Pokemon games.

I use to emulate gen 3 on my PSP until I got paranoid about finding a shiny on emulator instead of a legit cart. I have all the the games from gens 1-7 on cart but I don't care about the Switch games. I can't find a reason to get the carts other than for my autistic sense of authenticity. I do prefer playing on original consoles but if it wasn't for authenticity I would just mod the consoles and play. Not to mention how ridiculous the prices for some games are.
TLDR just get an AGS-101, a DSi XL, a n3ds, load them up with flashcards and call it a day
