I bought this game under the pretense we were getting what was on their roadmap. They promised a hell of a lot, and if they cut and run I won't let them hear the end of it.
Based, this is the correct thing to do
This guy speaks truth except for >PvE is played by women and grown men that grew up without the whole PvP generation of games. Super chill and nice, but it’s a whole different game in PvE.
I enjoyed PvE ARK much more with a small number of friends strictly because I grew up in the age of PVP MMOs and quite frankly I'm just sick of them.
ARK has an absolute frickton of content - but solo it's pretty bland. If you have 1-3 friends it'll definitely be way more fun.
No opinions on Valheim. I'd like to play it, but I'll wait for it to leave EA aka never
Problem is, I have no friends to play ARK with
roughly 1/4 of it. hearth and home was ~10 new building pieces, cult of the wolf was a single type of extra small cave dungeon. tar pits were added. that's it.
Literal crumbs lol
I'm going to let you in on a secret, you don't need to save face on an anonymous board.
You should buy me Valheim then I'll play it with you. Then when our friendship flourishes we can look back and joke about how I owe you $20 but I'll never give it back.
they will absolutely never actually update valheim and forever just talk about updates they'll never release. They, just like phasmophobia had perfection in a bottle and fricked it up the moment they could.
how long was valheim in dev to begin with? I'm extrapolating the work load here and if it's been out since February of last year it must have been in dev since around 2013
It really is a pity. Why even make a game if you aren't going to bother finishing it?
You should buy me Valheim then I'll play it with you. Then when our friendship flourishes we can look back and joke about how I owe you $20 but I'll never give it back.
That sounds really cute and wholesome but I'm not rich enough to buy vidya for complete strangers
if you've never played valheim before, then that. otherwise, ark because there's exponentially more content there and valheim's devs have shown an absolute commitment to coasting on their launch money for the rest of their lives.
hahahahahahha, no. they released a picture of a table with food on it and said they just got back from vacation and are "also working on Mistlands". no release date, no feature list, nothing. at this rate, it'll take until year 3 or 4 to fulfill their year 1 roadmap that they walked back.
because a they're a team of like 5 people that got paid out 20 million+ bucks. basically won the lottery and they don't have the decency to just abdicate to their positions to anyone that'll complete the game while they live the rest of their lives on vacation.

They really didn't hire more devs? Wtf? They do realize they're trashing the studio's rep and killing the game, right?
they went on vacation for a year, bought a horse, then came back and hired ~10 more devs. the rate of updates has not increased and the presentation of work-in-progress has not improved - still single frame "teasers".
Ice caves isn't even endgame content for people who did everything they can in the plains. Both it and the new Swamplands monster give you inferior gear to the padded iron which is currently strongest.
so then what's even the point of mistlands?
no new boss you have to kill, so even if they make whatever spidersilk gear there the new top tier it's completely pointless.
They should have honestly just cut mistlands entirely and tied a bow on it to call it finished.

>so then what's even the point of mistlands?
Mistlands is the next tier above plains, anon. It's actually progression from where we left off, so us end-game players can stop twiddling our thumbs waiting for actual new areas, because it has stronger monsters and presumably finally more things for us to do. I'm hoping for another type of animal to catch and breed. But even Lox are kind of pointless right now.

But the whole point of the game is "defeat these 5 dickheads and you win"
Am I forgetting them saying they're adding in a new boss and changing the story?

Guess I'm different because I just bought it because of a steam recommendation and didn't look at any early access whatever the hell this is.
Seemed done to me when I played it.
Nice little anecdote. Guess they're off the hook!

Some is, yes. Hearth and Home, Cult of the Wolf, Tar pits, and possibly the combat improvements they meant here have made it into the game.
Hearth and Home just adds a handful of new craftable things, using tar from the pits. Cult of the Wolf added a new dungeon to the mountains but there's not much really worth your time in there except some alternate gear for the biome tier. Only new players will benefit from this. Combat has been reworked a little to make the 2 shield types more meaningful, and changed the fatigue requirements a little bit for some gear like bows.

And the real kicker is this is just the 2021 roadmap, so to someone reading it, there was no reason to think it was the full list of intended changes. And why would they? There's still 2 other untouched biomes not yet listed.

Yeah frick you. The game is unfinished and NEEDS more content for the type of game it is. Quit if you want but don't tell these vacationing devs that they're off the hook.

Does it? They sold it as some little action rpg with some light progression and sailing where you can build a neat settlement.

because it isn't even close to finished? ~33% of the map is literally just empty space (deep north and ashlands biomes) and the game has 1 (one) enemy to interact with in the ocean despite having heavily developed sailing mechanics (wind, water level, physics) and the game asking the player to spend hours sailing as part of the core gameplay. they haven't even completed their initial roadmap from two years ago and it's still a game about a viking wilderness that has no fricking bears despite them being one of the most ubiquitous animals in viking iconography and art.

>~33% of the map is literally just empty space
yeah that's what you get with all these "randomly generated map" games
If they added more bosses or moved the progression tree around I would like that but I played the game on release with some friends and the whole thing seemed pretty done.

name three survival games where ~33% of the map is literally (not figuratively) empty with no enemies, harvestable resources, or unique content of any kind.
valheim is a neat little game that's easy to get into and you can play it alone just fine, I'd go with that.
All it honestly needs is an ending cutscene or something to be considered finished really.
ARK Official is full of actual third worlders and asiatics that profit on selling servers and dinosaurs, so they treat it’s internal politics like real life. It’s super fricking cancerous, and you will not have fun playing official.
Small Tribes official CAN be fun solo, or if you get a good crew together.
Some private servers are pretty cool.
PvE is played by women and grown men that grew up without the whole PvP generation of games. Super chill and nice, but it’s a whole different game in PvE.
Single Player is shit.
t. 5k hours in Ark, most in official, and quit at the end of last year.

Hold off on Valheim until Mistlands drops, at minimum. However many years that takes.
