I had the most fun during Stormblood but EW has taught me it's time to move on the hard way. Not out of difficulty, but out of sheer inconvenience.
Bruh "MCH bad" is something that only matters in top 1% parties and the only reason it was such a big deal in week 1 was because it would cuck the gear fed melees and P8S was overturned already. It's barely any difference outside of top tier parties.
Agree on the 2 minute lazy shit and NA PF being hot garbage. I run savage in a very consistent group so reclears are a 1 hour adventure weekly.
I don't give a frick if MCH is a top dps or a bottom dps.

-People being overhyped for something we were told wasn't going to be that deep
-Lack of an exploration zone this expansion makes it feel like one was sacrificed specifically for this
-Committing to way too long of a development schedule (2 new maps planned?)
Points 2 and 3 together don't feel great in an expansion that is definitely thin on content.
It's over if you've already spent 1000+ hours doing literally everything possible in the game and now you're out of content. Somebody new isn't going to have this problem and will still have shit to do by the time 7.0 drops.

A private hangout with some level of customization, and activities. Since not everyone can get housing, it's kind of a band-aid to cover that issue. And has some minigame components to promote its use
Over the last year and a bit I tried out 3 different high-end raid groups.
First group half of us were new to the content, it started great but we disbanded due to absenteeism.
Second group started better but absenteeism was common and the leader would off-load management to me, so I dropped.
Third group started ok but the leader was really bad, and when I dropped he treating it like a break up.
Raiding is a dice roll, it feels like finding 7 people who are in tune with you is harder than clearing the content itself. Play for the ERP or w/e, but not for raiding.

Barb and Hyd are great. Endsinger and Zodiark are decent. Rubicante is the only disappointing extreme.
I did Endsinger extreme last night. Most of us went into the fight completely blind, no video or anything, and it only took us a couple of hours to figure out the fight and clear it.
I liked it but it has the same problem Aglaia does where most of the mechanics are just dodge aoe.

From someone who has played catch up on that shit up until this point: don't. The real money from crafters and gatherers comes from turning shit in for scrips and selling the materia off at every new crafting gear cycle. Build a good set at X.1, hoard materia from spiritbond and scrips, and then sell that shit off at X.3 and X.5. Once the rush dies down at X.5 you can buy materia again and make a set for a fraction of the price.
It'll be required to make the combat gear in X.4
It's why the majority of us do it. The rest is just side hustle.
There's no 6.5 crafter set iirc, just the new scrip set come 6.4

I'm trying to solo the Alexander normal raids and got stuck on A5. Is the unavoidable long stun + tankbuster just a flat % of my healthbar? Everything else just tickles me at 80 but two casts of that killed me as I didn't have enough healing to get back to full health in time on GNB.
There are some vuln stacks as well but I can't do anything about those except hope for rng dodges.

Yeah it seems like it's better to go for the relics instead of catching up with Indagator if you haven't already. They'll also be better with expert crafts. I'm annoyed because I went through so much shit making my own Indagator's set for DoH/L after coming back from a 2 year break in 6.3 but w/e, it's nice to see they're actually doing interesting stuff.

said, they don't want people potentially cheesing past dangers. Though realistically, if you think you're safe from a patrol or something spawning on top of your face in the time it takes the server to log you out you're living in a dream world... but anyway.
Those aren't real d/cs, those are client-induced panic d/cs. It's part of the knee-jerk package of measures SE put in to stop(it didn't) the very earliest of botters and pos-hacking(bot parties warping to dungeon chests when they still had gil, ranged DPS floating outside Garuda or Titan's reach, etc). Essentially, if you're in an instance and you move too quickly between packets, or have too many dropped packets in a row, the game client will say "OH FRICK SOMETHING'S GOING ON" and kill itself. Slower interenet speeds *can* influence this, but ultimately this is all on the player's machine.
The thresholds used are also configurable. You can see it sometimes in a normal dungeon or raid, but they cranked up the sensitivity for Deep Dungeon and oddly enough Air Force One. It's easy enough to figure out why, since they don't want people bypassing threats left and right. the twins grew on me in EW. Alphinaud was kind of a beta cuckboy basedboy b***h until recently where he really grew on me, his sister too. i do think the Scions need to take a backseat in the next expac, or at least introduce some new main characters that aren't Zero.
One of them is almost certainly Casting since the last real Casting job was all the way back in 4.0 and they're probably not going to have a role go three expansions in a row without getting something new.
The other one is either Scouting or a tank. Scouting is the last gear category to be tied to a single job, but tank could also be a possibility if they want to avoid having two melee DPS new jobs in a row with Reaper.

Even something like Pneuma on SGE is more interesting, just on being melee distance + odd timer + charges making you potentially have to at least plan some kind of positioning or holding charges for burst. Would be even better if it worked like BLM polyglot so that you had the potential to be at 2.95 charges going into a burst, but risked overcapping back to 2 if not spent.

It's still a tiny bit more engaging than mindless 1 spam, and it will definitely hurt healer numbers if they actually go through with removing them.
If done with no replacement, yeah, but if every class got something at least as engaging as Pneuma in it's place that would be a net gain for interesting play. No reason to prop up healer dots as a cornerstone when they could so easily be replaced with something better.
They should have doubled down on Miasma II and made short duration instant DoTs the norm instead of just giving everyone 1.5s cast times to make weaving braindead. Stormblood Scholar was honestly beautiful after it got fixed.
I don't think they'll ever cut healer DoTs since it's basically baseline healer DPS that ensures they have some sort of damage uptime even while they're actively healing.

pvp movesets are allowed to get freaky with it because you're fighting players and not raid bosses, otherwise you get really fricking annoying quirks of each job like dragoon needing to keep distance for wyrmwind thrust to do any damage at all and dark knight being reliant on a pull-in effect for serious tanking ability (or using HP to fuel skills, as a tank)
They could always band aid some designs. For the Dragoon problem reseting Spineshatter dives cooldown upon executing Wyrmwind Thrust and adding a trait that increases damage based on distance travelled could be good. Dark Knight using HP as a resource will leave them with a temporary barrier based on how much HP they used. Add in lifesteal materia.

Sage is way better than Scholar imo, not having Energy Drain is a huge load off for class design and separate stacks for healing and Toxikon makes having too many of each stack not feel like total shit. Under normal circumstances Scholar either has too many stacks (saving them) or not enough stacks (blew them all on Energy Drain because nothing else was going on)
Sage is just Scholar on training wheels. Removing the modicum of resource management doesn't make it good, it just makes it boring to play.
I don't consider Scholar to have any really engaging resource-management. Like I said, I either have way too much resource or suddenly find that I don't have enough resource to cope, with its saving grace being the low-ish timer for another set of stacks. I get a feedback loop where unless I already know the fight's timeline, I'm probably just gonna blow everything on Energy Drain and what comes what may, especially if my cohealer is competent. Sage is on the same par for resource management intensity, but it's better there because only the healing resource matters and it's generated passively, automatically, and there's a skill for a free stack every so often.
Ultimately I recognize that half the reason for this is Scholar's approach to healing resources is just not for me.

I tried it but I just like SCH more. Aetherflows are going to come every minute, so you can either accept you're giving yourself less healing in the opening minute (not a huge loss at all given all your other tools), or just show self control and lose out on a few energy drains in one window. Then going into every minute past that, you just have aetherflow leftover that you know you need to spend now and none of it has to be wasted. By comparison, SGE is a lot more MP hungry and needs to spend their addersgall to get that MP back, while SCH can stack it up like crazy for extended burst healing/dps. You also have Ruin 2 for a fairly minor dps loss but gaining an instacast that frees you up to double weave.
Lots of other fun unique stuff too, like chain stratagem being strong, expedience's sprint effect, recitation + adlo + deployment tactics, that kind of thing.
whm basically isn't even a job until you get holy and your lilies.

I think that the main reason why there has been such a backlash from some parts of the community during this expansion isn't because the content is worse (just go back and read the fricking patch notes of all the other patches and you'll see what I mean) but that the fundamental way that players interact with said content have actually become worse even though it's as "balanced" and "fair" as ever.
The way job design has been changing over the years have given us a worse play experience and what I think frustrates players even more is that the devs simply seem to be holding back on some of the most obvious changes that could/would massively improve the general gameplay of the game. Changes such as:
>Removing Direct hits from the game, even if they are not replaced with anything
>Allowing some jobs to be "easy/simple" and some to be "hard/more advanced" so that players can freely pick how they want to interact with content
>Making minor changes to some jobs that would free said jobs from extremely strict and rigid rotations, like making Divine might affect ALL SPELLS for PLD or giving DRK a very slight increase in MP regen somehow

Rotations in general feel too rigid. I think at the very least they could do something like how nu-SMN's elemental summons work to other classes. You still go through mostly similar stuff each time, but you get to choose which order to use your instas and spells with cast-times, or fringe stuff like Ifrit's charge, so you can modify your casting order a bit depending on the fight's mechanics, i.e. when you have time to stay put or dodge shit. You also get a full rotation reset every minute in case you somehow fricked up, in comparison to other classes where you're forced to time all the long CD abilities with separate cooldowns into the same burst phase.

My static recently got through Omega Savage MiNE and the best enrages were neo exdeath's, Omega, and Omega (forma finale). Wind-up enrages that feel like the final stretch of a race are pure kino.
Putting a rotation CD on everyone would still just homogenise the jobs, but it could work on some "bursty" jobs I guess and add flavour to them as a result.

Content so difficult that the only factor is whether or not you can kill it within the 10 minute time limit, with story timegating taking literal months at a time for f2p. My favorite was the dude randomly weak to instant death with the character who could inflict it being stuck in the city that was unlocked immediately after the fight. The strategy was either to roll for the character to instant kill him or spend weeks to months building Lena for the one fight she's good for.
At least in other games that have moronic timegates they give you options to at least deal with the story content, and don't have arbitrary time limits on fights so you can come up with clever strategies. There's a lot I liked about the game during the time I played it, but there's no way I'd ever recommend it. All of the EN servers being locked to PS4 also makes it even harder to recommend.
I do agree that the time limits are ridiculous. There were more than a handful of times where I would have won story battles if I had just a few more seconds, or a minute at worst. Story walls are indeed frustrating, but I see them as opportunities to focus on something else, and the payoff is almost always worth it. I'm more into the story side of things rather than the gameplay myself, so I don't have as many grips about the game as others. That said, there are more than a few things I would change about the game to make progress quicker. I like slow burn types of games, but CS is sometimes too slow.
It's such a shame it's stuck on PS4, The game deserves to flourish, but Sony doesn't want that I guess.

I think they're going to simplify the card system by making one generic buff card that you can apply to anyone, not a card that does more dmg for ranged or magic dps and one card for damage.
the second AST rework is a less-than-subtle admission that they *still* don't know what to do with astrologian, and to be completely fair, neither do the players. fundamentally astrologian is just a bad design and a poor reference to tactics (like the other two HW jobs, war of the lions dark knight and mustadio machinist that have since been retconned to cecil and edgar) but there is so much less wiggle room to actually impact astrologian's fundamentals and main gimmick because it is and always will be, both thematically and mechanically, a fortune teller

There's a lot of potential options for AST if they want to be crazy about it. They can completely change the draw system or the effects of cards again, even if it's as simple as "they don't give dps any more so there's less rng to your damage, but will give effects similar to sprint/lucid dreaming/arms length/bloodbath/etc" as some kind of compromise. Mainly basing that off of SCH getting expedience + the pvp AST moveset.

Keep in mind AST lost all its fun cards because of the 2min burst window SE is pushing incredibly for.
You can't have a GCD speed buff that isn't build in the kit of the job anymore because it would give too much ressource that would make people cap for their 2min window.
You can't have a oGCD recast reduction buff anymore because nothing will align with the 2min buff window anymore.
Yeah, that's why I was suggesting one that both removes damage-influencing rng (which is in line with what they want to do), but give a non-damage based extra effect instead (which they did with another healer, and in the PVP AST rework).
You could still introduce rng into the system that way, but not have it influence damage directly.

My newbie static just cleared TEA after taking way longer than I would have liked with it. It took us maybe 3~ months of 9 hour/week raiding. Very proud of us, but I feel like we could have cleared a few weeks earlier than we did. How bad would DSR/TOP bend us over?
Depends on why you struggled. DSR is the easiest Ultimate for healers so it strictly becomes about the "dance" of the fight which is very uptempo so it fricks people up. Omega doesn't feel quite as rapid in mechanics but there does feel like there's more reading and an adjusting to me so it will probably be the hardest if your group just tries to autopilot

Inconsistency, I think. We had a lot of dumb wipes in Perfect just because people wouldn't respect stillness, or not position properly for the trio mechanics. Even as earlier as LC, people would go to the wrong side for 1256. We managed to clear and get a few reclears, though.
Inconsistency WILL frick you up in both. There is nothing as mentally exhausting as going back from P5/P6 to Thordan or Beetle and getting stuck wiping to them all over again. TOP is even worse because you have to constantly adjust and keep priorities through the entire fight.

In my honest opinion, It is possibly one of the most overhyped games that I have ever tried in my life .
It's pretty much just wow but with a different skin and a shittier story, I'm not talking necessarily modern WoW but the best expansion of final fantasy 14 still pales in comparison to the best expansions of WoW.
I found the combat to be very boring, I didn't much care for any of the characters I was introduced to or have a reason to care for them, I honestly can't say that there was any sort of redeeming quality that made me think " wow I'm really getting my money's worth "

Completely unbiased opinion, 8k hours in the game (on an account made in Heavensward). It's going to boil down to if you can stomach the MMO gameplay. Early on, it's very slow, but later boss mechanics makeup more of the "gameplay" then your simple rotation that should be muscle memory by now.
The story is very solid, I have mixed feelings about some expansions, but overall good, especially by MMO standards. Music and boss fights are an theatrics experience on their own and by far the highlight of the game. Every Trail, Alliance Raid(24man) and Normal Raid (8man) are fun and don't require major investment, most of the fights are easy and can be beaten with PuGs (pick up groups) but still have a few tricks to keep it from being a snoozefest.The worldbuilding and lore are also very solid, while also giving homage to classic FF titles. The game has excellent minigames in the Gold Suacer and a very indepth one in Fishing. Crafting and Gathering is interesting, doing it's own unique thing, however I'd list this as a neutral point rather then a pro. It can get annoying.
The game's weakness is a very instanced world, outside of the ARR zones nothing really feels connected and once you have finished the story, unless there are dailies or special fates (which you eventually will complete and have no need of anymore) the zones have nothing to do. In fact, if you aren't a hardcore raidchimp who lives for the gear treadmill skinnerbox every three or four months, there is no reason to remain subbed after the MSQ and normal content. The mog station (cash shop) is also very bloated, if you are a new player there is a lot you cannot obtain that is only through the cashshop. SE is very greedy with a monthly sub, xpacks, cash shop and additional services (such as extra retainers, another 5$ for 200 item storage) or the mobile app (rip Mogboard). Housing is fricked, SE won't do anything about it. Lastly, it has many common MMO problems like bots and cheaters.

That was the old system, new one is arguably worse and only better in one regard. The new system is a raffle, entirely rng, you walk up to a placard, throw in a ticket and frick off until the results period. The issue is the least dedicated players can walk up and win. That guy who plays one hour a day? He has just as much of a chance as the neet who dedicates 12h to the game. With the old system, two types of people got houses. The dedicated clickers and people who used scripts and bots to auto click, and the bots usually won.
No one gets permanently banned. Count Brusef has been caught cheating and called out in a blog post by Yoshi P himself, he continued to cheat in savage and pvp back in stormblood. He got a two week ban. One of my friends has his gatherers, crafters and marketboard listing entirely automated by bots, plural, and has been manipulating the market for years. He has never been caught. The GMs can't do anything without chatlogs.

Looking at cancelling my sub for the first time since I started in SB. It's a sad, abstract sort of feel. I'd love to be enthused about it again but it just doesn't really want to be something I like. I'd reccomend not starting for now, the game is in a pretty rough patch that it could improve but I'm unsure it will. No harm in waiting a year.
I mean, there's always a good moment to start. But I'd say, don't hurry to leave the free trial. Finish Heavensward, maybe go on a break, because there's no going back to f2p once you start paypigging. And who knows, they could be adding more content to f2p accounts later.
