Sure, if you have the patience for it.
It's a short game, so play it blind the first time, put your points in Agility, Perception and the Small Guns skill.
I just did for the first time and I'd say yes, it's definitely worth playing. idk where it would fit in the top 100, but it's definitely a good game with some great worldbuilding. I had played Fallout 3, NV and 4 so I was already familiar with the world, but still, it's good to go back and see where the origins of the series was. I found the endgame to be the best out of all the games in the franchise.
The point is you name as many games as you can that are better, if you run out of games that are better before 100 that's "where it fits in" and I'm still waiting.
This.
Fallout 3 had great ideas and quests but Fallout 4 is unforgivable (though it certainly isn’t worthless).
I was watching Tim Cain’s YouTube channel and he talks about how he rejected a “terminator” style robot for Fallout 1 because it was completely against the design philosophy of “Robbie the Robot” and how he was shocked by the inclusion and coyly disapproved of the “synths” in Fallout 4 and I agree, they have absolutely no place in the world of Fallout. It’s completely against the concept of “retro-futurism”.
I do think gamebryo/creation engine is absolutely the engine Fallout should be in, but Bethesda’s writers need to stay far away from the lore.
All this being said, Fallout 2 has some less than stellar writing at points as well.
Finally, I want to say it was really fricking stupid to kill off the enclave in Fallout 3. Too important of a faction to just kill them off, they are the remnants of the US government with technology and logistics to be feared. “The Institute” was a really bad fill in for them.
IMHO the only way to save Fallout is to totally refresh it by remaking the first game in creation engine and having the old guys work on it, but that will never happen. Streamlined goofy Fallout is the future, and now that Microsoft owns it, it’s going to be a perma-cucked mess, modern day Microsoft is poison and everything they touch turns to shit.
I went off on a tangent but yeah, Interplay/Obsidian Fallout is an entirely different beast than Bethesda’s.
>remaking the first game in creation engine
Nope, 3D Fallout is and was the greatest No-No ever.
What i want to see is a Fallout 1 / 2 Remaster like Blizzard did with Diablo 2 Resurrected.
And they should also do the real Fallout 3 Van Buren like these remasters. 2D isometric how it's supposed to be
Its scope as a "be anything and do it your way" game makes it pretty janky in a lot of ways. Definitely not a polished a game but it doesn't have to be, it's still really great
It's a great game, really trend setting. Buggy as it gets, turn based. Wonderful bleak feeling. There's a mod letting you play fallout 2s engine but FO1 game, even fresh I'd suggest this. Feel free to abuse save and load, it's practically needed even for those who know it.
Small guns as mentioned is a top notch skill. Make sure you have speech tagged, honestly unless you WANT a grug smash play thru, speech is a must imho.
>There's a mod letting you play fallout 2s engine but FO1 game, even fresh I'd suggest this
I'll second this, FO2 adds a "move over" command to push npcs out of the way in one-tile wide corridors which was badly needed in vanilla FO1.
Absolutely. Best atmosphere and story out of them all. It really is dark and gritty unlike all the other Fallout games, even the second one went to campy.
Don't use companions in fallout 1, they were hacked in from scratch on a whim days before it went gold. If you use them for specific stuff, like bringing Ian along near shady sands, leave them as soon as it makes sense. The game cannot handle them and you probably don't have the willpower not to reload when they get gibbed
I know it is against the spirit of the game, but I have reloaded every time he dies, which is highly frequent. I'm thinking of just abandoning him. My current goal is to join the Brotherhood for their armor anyway.
When I go into super mutant territory near end game(yes, I still have Ian). I make him wait at a town with dog meat, while I go frick shit up. Feels good man

Play it, it's a great game. It's not very long, like 20-ish hours tops, and the only real downside to the entire game is the interface, but it's easy to deal with.
It's in the Top 10 of the best games of all times if you ask me, together with Fallout 2.
Btw: Someone made the real Fallout 3 (Van Buren) in the F2 Engine: Fallout yesterday.
Played it for the first time recently and loved it. I never really played a CRPG before too. I started up 2 after I finished it but couldn't get into it. Maybe I was just burnt out a little.
Like other anon said it's a bit slow to start, but it's basically fo1 with tons of shit to do and lore to read. It's much more in line with fnv with the lore building.
It's a must if you enjoy turn-based RPGs at all. For a relatively vanilla experience, I would suggest running Fallout Community Edition, which is remake of the original engine with some optional features backported from Fallout 2 (like the ability to push away NPCs who block your way).
I mean I liked it a lot. If you like that type of rpg then it's a great time. You've most likely been spoiled on the best parts by now but it's still a good game. I don't recall it being very long so you lose very little by giving it a go.
I don't know if it is in the top 100 games of all time but it's definitely great. I liked the setting and plot better than 2 even though I enjoyed 2 more overall.
Yes, but be aware that it's a hardcore RPG. When the game says there's a time limit on finding a certain item(I won't spoil it); that means there's a time limit. I've only ever played the retail version, but I've read articles that say the different patches for the game over the years has changed that, so do some research before you play.
between the classic games and non-bethesda games it's the one i definitely liked the most and is probably my favorite classic fallout. i didn't really like FO2 or BoS, i never got around to playing tactics and i felt NV was boring outside of the DLCs.
there's a nice straightforward simplicity in FO1's design that the series overall from FO2 to 76 hasn't really replicated since.
Yes
Definitely in the top 100
yes it's great. definitely a top 10 crpg.
No.
Play a rpg with gameplay, homosexual
Sure, if you have the patience for it.

Literally name 100 games better than it. Retro only please
I'm still waiting
NTA but "I don't know where it would fit in the top 100" doesn't mean he's excluding it from the top 100
The point is you name as many games as you can that are better, if you run out of games that are better before 100 that's "where it fits in" and I'm still waiting.
What a homosexual
>I had played Fallout 3, ... and 4 so I was already familiar with the world
Bethesda shit isn't canon
This.

Your parents are waiting on your suicide, don't disappoint them

The fo2 completely fricked my save hours into the game because they nerfed gambling for no reason. How the frick was I supposed to know that
Started playing this recently, since I never got far in it. I've been putting almost all of my skill points into bartering.
Absolutely. Best atmosphere and story out of them all. It really is dark and gritty unlike all the other Fallout games, even the second one went to campy.
I love The Glow. Such a foreboding area.

I see what you mean. Ian is pretty much useless.
Newbies can use him to get directions to Junktown and clear out the scorpion cave. He's a liability after that point
I know it is against the spirit of the game, but I have reloaded every time he dies, which is highly frequent. I'm thinking of just abandoning him. My current goal is to join the Brotherhood for their armor anyway.

I am also curious about all the games you think are better than Fallout 2
Sorry, I mean Fallout and meant for
Play it, it's a great game. It's not very long, like 20-ish hours tops, and the only real downside to the entire game is the interface, but it's easy to deal with.
It's a 6 hour game, there's no reason to not play it.
It's in the Top 10 of the best games of all times if you ask me, together with Fallout 2.
Btw: Someone made the real Fallout 3 (Van Buren) in the F2 Engine: Fallout yesterday.

FO2 has a slow as frick start. amazing game though.

Yes
I like to collect as many companions as possible and run around with a party, for the comfy
>trust me there could be more than 100 games better than fallout
>why would I name a single 1 let alone 10 or 25
shit board
>agi
>int
>small guns
>speech
>lockpick
have fun

50
Not showing off. Not falling behind. Right at that meaty part of the curve.
name 49 games that are better
First tell me about yourself.
The game is legit only like 10 hours long so even if you end up not liking it, you didn't lose much time.
It's a great game.
yes
if you cant hang you have tictok brain
I mean I liked it a lot. If you like that type of rpg then it's a great time. You've most likely been spoiled on the best parts by now but it's still a good game. I don't recall it being very long so you lose very little by giving it a go.

Waste of time. Any game he mentions you will disagree and say FO is better.
No, not an argument and not a list.
Great game.

>there's a time limit on finding a certain item(I won't spoil it)
How is that a spoiler? It's the first thing you're told to do.
Shut up moron you're going to ruin the game
I am STILL waiting!
