There's like one or two attacks in the modern HD port that have slightly wrong timings for input or something like that. That's about it, hardly "a lot of problems"
I've finished both the original Dreamcast version and the new port and the HD version is by far the way to go.

Everything else is 1:1. I think some anons ripped the audio files for the Japanese dub (which you should absolutely be playing) and found that its sliiightly lower bit rate than the original DC disc but honestly I couldn't tell at all because both are quite scratchy and low quality. The only other thing I can think of is the product placement has been replaced, which really isn't a big deal unless you LOVE Coke or something.
Just play the HD remaster, its one of the few out there which gets it totally right. And enjoy yourself, I love Shenmue.

But that voice restoration mod will hardly make any difference. Like I said, the Dreamcast VO was fricking shit quality too. This is more just peace of mind for extreme autists. Still, no reason not to install it I suppose.
So yes, the PC version is by far the definitive release.

Definitely a few old reliable combos that are just broken now.
It still has problems properly emulating shadows, just look at the kitten's shadow toward the beginning.
English dub is also lower quality unless you replace the audio yourself.
Lots of its new features are nice and the Japanese dub sounds fine, it performs much better, but I think it has a few too many issues. No way I'd say it gets it totally right.

I have a modded Dreamcast with the Shenmue (Japanese audio, English sub) hack. fricking amazing.
I was told this game was comfy and really good, but holy shit it's so fricking boring. I'm at the third day after I got hired in the docks and I just can't find any motivation to play anymore.

The first one is a shit game, no matter how many buzzwords loony Dreamcast troons will throw at you to defend it. The second one is a lot better, and indeed the only good game in the series since the third one was a gigantic misfire after all those years of begging.
Because there's nothing to it. Shenmue is an anime that's 90% filler. If you want a good revenge tale that is also a good game, play Yakuza instead

Demul was the most accurate ~5-8 years ago, but I'm sure there's new shit now. Demul was always very resource demanding.
PC version is fine. I’ve played DC (back when it came out) and then the Xbox version.
And I’ve never completed any of them. I just get bored about halfway through. It’s been like a quarter of a century now. One day I may finish it.
i recommend playing Yakuza games instead because Shitmue is a bland and boring walking simulators for autists
