Should I upgrade my monitor Gankerros?
Current monitor is a 4 year old 28" Samsung 4k monitor with a refresh rate that's only at 60hz.
I could game while my old monitor displays porn on the left side in a slideshow.
price is canadian btw

You need a top-end graphics card to drive 4k 144hz, settle for either a 4k 60hz or 1440p 144hz depending on if you're a 'more pixels' or 'better refresh' gay, respectively
I plan on just upscaling everything from 1080p to 4K so that I can enjoy the higher refresh rate. I'm just used to using 4K for general computer use.
Why not just choose not to use 4k?
>va panel
if you really want va, go with a samsung odyssey. they're the only ones that have no noticeable black smear
is there any that's not more than $1000?
neo g7 is 800€ here. basically the same as the g8 but "only" 4k 165hz
too much
$550 CAD for 4K, 144hz, and 32" is a steal for me.
then go for an ips monitor though. most va panels have horrible pixel response times resulting in excessive smear
i recommend rtings.com for monitor comparisons. great site
damn, IPS and VA look like shit
how old is this image? Good VA monitors look nothing like that. Either way, I'd still take right over IPS glow.
can you frickers even read the thread?
cheap ips > cheap va
a good va will shit on ips though
here's your ips bro
i just tried this on my ips and i can not reproduce this
Funny thing, I just got that Neo G8 model from a refurb seller for £670 and I'm like 99% sure it was never used before. Zero dead pixels or defects. Feels good.
I'm a VA guy but I wouldn't buy a VA at this point that isn't the Odyssey G7 or above. My previous monitor was a G7 and I'd honestly give up resolution to use that – actually, I think there's very little difference between using 4K render downscaled to 1440p display versus 4K render to 4K display. 1440p is a perfectly fine display resolution. I can say that for sure because having upgraded literally today from 1440p to 4K, there is very little difference lol
>Odyssey G7 or above
G6 is basically the same monitor for cheaper
I hadn't looked into this, but yeah, based off reviews it seems the G6 has great pixel response too.
These Samsung VA panels are some kind of black magic. It's been years since they debuted and I sort of hoped the technology would spread, but it's still just a Samsung thing.
save some money, a 27 inch panel at 1440p is not only easier for your graphics card to drive at high framerates but is also cheaper and easier to find at 120hz+
although i think it has been discontinued i run a set of HP x27qc VA panels that are 1440p 165hz 1ms that were $200 each new, it just needed the brightness dropped to 15% and red reduced to 245 to reasonably calibrate it. the lowered brightness also greatly aids in reducing backlight bleed.
>bro lower the brightness on your monitor to 15%
looool, koolaid drinkers
That's pretty dope. This is part of what makes it hard for me to choose between a monitor and lg c3 tv. Emulating DS like that seems really good. What are some other unique cases in games you could use pivot for?
I still can't believe how expensive are pin ball machines, some of them look really good though
I went with two MSi curved 120hz monitor and it's amazing. You instantly notice the difference just moving windows around on the desktop. I don't game much on my computer but it makes me smile doing regular browsing and playing retro games.
Check Amazon if you can. They have a great return policy. My second monitor had a single light grey looking pixle (not quite dead) so I exchanged it with no hassle.
the same deal is also available on amazon. better though because of free shipping unlike newegg.
I tried a VA panel once and the black smearing was so fricking horrendous combined with these weird visible scanlines that I swore off ever even considering another VA panel in my life. Even those Samsung Odyssey monitors aren't great - they have a lot of quality control issues and the black smearing is merely 'okay' on those compared to other technologies. They also get other weird scanline issues from what I've read.
Asus 23.8" VA247HE VA FHD or Asus 24" VA24EHL IPS FHD ?
REMINDER: 95% of 4K monitors in the 400 - 600 Price range false advertise HDR. They don't have any HDR hardware and some do "FakeHDR" while advertising it as real even with a certification.
Imagine spending that much for fake HDR
it's not "fake hdr" more like "theoretical hdr" since the displays simply don't get bright enough
then its fakehdr
It's not about peak brightness. It's about not enough dimming zones to provide proper contrast without severe haloing. OLED or other "per pixel" tech is best for HDR, but if you don't have that you need at least 1000+ zones for good results.
Go OLED or go home
i'm tired of my 60hz 32" tv monitor that fails almost every UFO test lol
4k is a meh, i'd personally buy a 27'' 1440p.
the color coverage is shit. 90% srbg sucks, va sucks, no vsych also sucks.
>be you
>be moronic
>buy a 60hz monitor in 2020
btw, just ordered it.
you'll be seeing an unboxing here next week.
bro your name and address??
deserved for buying curved meme
okay, now what's wrong with curved monitors?
If I want an IPS monitor thats 120 Hz atleast for both a PS5 and gaming PC should I go for 27 inch 2k or 32 inch 4k? I care more about performance than graphics
Get a 42 inches LG C2 OLED.
42 inches is too much since I'm gonna be playing inches away from the screen, OLED is too expensive and I don't really care for it
I got a 32 inch 1440p 165hz monitor on eBay last year for $150
Am I a wizard?
4k is a meme, only buy 1440P 144HZ, then budget determines your picture quality.
>1440P
cuck resolution just like 720p was
YouTube monitors unboxed
>curved 16:9

Modern panels are all worthless because of the motion blur. This includes OLED.
And high frame rate + BFI doesn't eliminate it, it only reduces it.
And then BFI causes other issues.
And then you need a 4090 to run the games at stable frame rates.
It's stupid.
Either get a panasonic plasma second hand or wait for the next gen of panel tech and prey to god they get it right next time.
Similar question. Debating between
>27" Acer Nitro P3 4K UHD IPS 160Hz 1ms HDR1000/1000Nit Monitor for $360 refurb
or
>LG C3 42" open box for $660
what do Ganker
The first one probably. I've been hoping a good MiniLED monitor would come out without any issues. All of them seem to have braindead firmware quality of life issues that would have been fixed if they had tested their products. Same with a lot of the new OLED monitors coming out.
Unironically the biggest thing holding me back is the matte display, and the C3 has gloss of course but I am concerned about the brightness and the monitor is really good in that. I see a lot of people saying OLED C3 brightness is "more than enough" but I don't know how well it holds up in SDR content/emulation(which I do a lot of). Especially seeing that brightness is even more important with CRT shaders which I like to use. I know retroarch has HDR support but I don't know.
Waiting for 27" 4K OLEDs to come out next year. Hopefully it will fix all of the current issues (DP 2.1 and stuff like the new MSI OLEDs not automatically changing color space when switching to HDR, etc.).
Why the frick do people like curved monitors so much, what do you get out of that shit?
I had 165hz 2k monitor and swapped it for a 28" 60hz 4k. It's perfect and I don't miss the old one at all.
>monitor thread
Any news about 4k ultrawide monitors with hdmi 2.1
can you imagine morons playing on a 32" 4K Monitor
dumbfricks never heard of pixel density
you morons will never notice 4K resolution on anything smaller than a 43"
this is why samsung's flagship 4K odyssey monitor is a 43" and anything less is not for gaming
