To be fair, you cannot mute weapon names or descriptions, so it's forced in your face regardless.
It's why I named my grenade launcher "Trans Rights", the salt it reaps is amazing.

I think we may have passed some sort of critical point when it comes to the internet where it's hard to even go after some crimes. I mean, if you have a limited budget and you must stop crime, are you going to go investigate the actual confirmed child trafficker and put him behind bars or Brandon, the guy posting e-girl porn on TF2?

Law enforcement doesn't initiate these sorts of things, even for literal pizza all they really do is set up phishing links to grab IPs and hope for the best.

It's going to be Valve employees themselves who would have to file a case/ forward your IP to some cyber-related law enforcement or ISP.
Think of it from the position of a Valve employee, too:
        - You barely give a frick about this video game.
        - If the crime is barely a crime (or most likely, not a crime at all), you are gambling time and effort for something that may backfire with a letter stating that you are wasting law enforcement's time.
        - If you actually pull this through, you'll create PR problems with players actually coming out about how they were investigated for harmless TF2 shit.

It's much simpler to, at most, just quietly reset their weapon names and give them a warning or ban them.

i'm pretty sure even law enforcement doesn't even do that. there's a couple articles online of people on facebook posting pizza and not even getting a slap on the wrist

They actually do, read it in a law blog once.
As for the Facebook thing, obviously creating phishing downloads is a centralized effort while catching people on Facebook relies on Facebook staff getting enough reports to fill a threshold.

The main reason I say I think the problem is out of control, is because it seems like that kinda thing is so easily accessible in too many places. It doesn't take someone who's super tech literate to do it, so I imagine all law enforcement would be able to do it. Yet those things stay up and still exist, what gives? Sure, some of them may be set up as traps ,but there's no way that's even half of them.

Are we talking actual pizza or nudism?
Nudism is very legal in most parts of the world. Some years ago you could literally type "Nudist family" on Google images and get very "interesting" results on the first page.
Of course they took it out now, but the point stands more or less that it is somewhat of a legal loophole.

Now even pure single-player games don't allow you to name your game character "frick you". I miss the days when you could call your character anything you wanted.

i think banning people for being ironically funny was the downfall of multiplayer vidya. now you can't talk at all unless its to be positive to your shit team. any negativity is banned. no fun allowed.
only the biggest of snowflake type people got offended by the stuff in OP image which is rather tame compared to stuff ive seen tf2 users employ.

      >being ironically funny

You mean being unfunny? I mean, for those of you who have been racist online and got in trouble, be honest, did you get in trouble because of your really clever joke but your team was simply too progressive for it, or were you just being loud and obnoxious screaming Black person on repeat for a reaction, then people got rid of you because you were too annoying?

I think OP, awful sprays and the shit vitriolic and board people do caused that. I don't think M rated games should have anything outside of anti-cheat and mute functions, but don't act like this had no cause for the effect.
I'm sure most 18+ year olds even back in the day didn't like it when myg0t_ or goroncity spammed blender girl, meatspin or the many 'based' people here who could post worse.

Games should either be "family friendly" or "18+". "Family friendly" games should have all the usual moderation systems, "18+" games should allow whatever. Also individual servers should be able to choose their own rules.

Should a person ever be banned/penalized for what they said in a video game? Are there any situations, that you can think of, where somebody should be penalized?
