Should Sega have continued to develop the portable Saturn?

They could have stuck with the Saturn, and made a portable version that could run Saturn games as they did with great success with the Nomad.

My God people, please find something else to do with your lives other than making sega fanfics and jerking off to sonic.

It was to use a high density format similar to DVD, but with the same storage as a normal CD-ROM, with a slot loading mini drive.

You can clearly see the SMD (Sega Mega Disc) loading slot.

It's all young idiots who can't imagine not having an expensive tech device in their pockets at all times. The same people who drop a grand or more on a new phone only to trade it for the next big thing, even if they have to rack up debt in the process.

That’s not real, Sega was never working on a portable saturn. Pictured is an alternate case design for the nomad

No, they should have worked on making the Nomad their portable successor. Keep making Genesis games into the late 90s but just call them "exclusives" to the Nomad and maybe use a new cartridge shape so consumers dont get moronic thinking its just a portable Genesis. It would have been the easiest and cheapest option, tickles the fancy of SoA wanting to extend the Genesis hardware lifespan, could have games cross compatible with hardware people already have hooked to their tv/the budget Genesis 3, it could be repackaged with old software as a pack-in title and it would have been by far the most powerful handheld available until the GBA. Biggest hurdles are the battery life, a good price point and some type of marketing campaign to nail home the concept to buyers its not just a portable Genesis, its taking its legacy and becoming their defacto handheld hardware and its got the power of a home console in your hands.

Sega attempting a PSP type shit in the 90s sounds like a spectacular disaster of hardware waiting to happen.

The nonad itself was already insane as is, it had WORSE battery life than the Game Gear and by a wide margin at that.
If anything they should've made a new and cheaper model for the gamegear.

The Majesco Core System version was technically a newer model with better quality guts.

A CD-based, battery-powered portable with 3D graphics, with 1990s tech. Those geniuses at Sega did it again!

I want it, but it needs a slightly better cpu for saturn. Might as well give it analog triggers too.

Sega approach to handhelds was moronic, it's like instead of making a slim version they made a YouTube-like meme portable project and then sell it. Who else could put a high voltage fluorescent tube as a light source for a color display?

Agree wholeheartedly. genesis/32x/nomad should have been rolled into one portable device with a TV adapter. CD/Saturn/Dreamcast should have been rolled into one system with dvd support.
