why the double standards you ask?
nintendo shilling, of course.
No idea what this is originally but I can guess from the format. It's such a dishonest setup because they frame it as if you express an opinion in private and then a mob comes banging at your door. Mein homie, you post your dumbest takes in a public space where everyone can see, what did you think was going to happen? A more accurate portrayal would be if the girl got on a box in the middle of a room full of people and started loudly shouting her opinion to the whole room.
yep. i believe the word they use to excuse this is "sealioning" >say stupid shit in public >people call you out or ask you to justify your position >YOU'RE SEALIONING ME
It's amazing how they've spent over a decade coming up with every term and justification in the book for why they can just behave however they want, and they all essentially boil down to "I can't handle having my beliefs examined or challenged in any way so the very act of anyone doing that is morally evil."
That was an edit, because it could easily have been talking about that, but 'covertly'. People made that edit and it took off to the point of being just a seen as the original that people couldn't tell the difference. Really the original was just supposed to be about male competitiveness and how she perceived it as about ego, when ego really only falls into a small piece of why men like to compete. Course than someone compared it to overcompensating and so the talk of small dick came into the picture, yada yada yada, you get the point.
>It's such a dishonest setup because they frame it as if you express an opinion in private and then a mob comes banging at your door. Mein homie, you post your dumbest takes in a public space where everyone can see, what did you think was going to happen?
You nailed it. Comics like this are always disingenuous, and there's no way to argue with a jpg. Plus if you try to argue directly with the artist on social media, they'll block you.
I don't care if it's a rip-off or not, is it a mechanically solid game at least? is it actually trying to recreate the standard Pokemon gameplay loop of city-gym-rival-repeat or is it a sandbox of whatever whenever?
I remember this board freaking the frick out at robocop having a rock that was a premade asset, or any AA game did it, getting up their own ass about creative fidelity. Now that the current trend dictates that creativity or originality as requirements must be ignored and mcdonalds tier mass appeal at lowest possible cost with least originality is actually 'based' for not making anything original. Similar reaction to supporting hogwarts legacy, a gay as frick game, to pwn the trannies. None of it is genuine, its all artificial hype.

Nice M&B going on there. The concern isn't plagiarism. If it was, they would have been throwing more of a fit a long time ago. We had 2 years of public eye on this thing and people just said "Pokemon Knockoff" instead of "This is just straight up Pokemon designs" >But, we didn't have all the models to look at in ultra detail
So? What exactly is the point here? We had more than enough examples, yet no one raised concerns that giant electric mouse Pal looked like a mash of Pikachu/Raichu and Electabuzz >Well, the game sold well, so now it's a problem
THERE WE GO, that's the issue here. The fact that a "rip off" sold well enough to compete with the original. Brand loyalty. It's infectious isn't it? You feel personally attacked, because something that is unknown to you and of perceived lesser quality is coming into something you are comfortable with. The consumer screams that it isn't fair that the franchise they have loved for so long has to actually work to satisfy them. The worry that you are no longer part of "winning team". That is the only reason for this hissy fit. Let me remind you that most of these people argue against hyper capitalist society, where only the hyper rich get to dictate anything. Yet now, when along comes small indie dev with the shake up to put complacent Gamefreak in their place and show they have untapped market, suddenly it's a problem for it to exist and we want Gamefreak to be the only one that gets a slice of the pie? >NO, I want them to do that, but I just don't want them to steal
What happened to property is theft? Many of these people have expressed this opinion. Surely than it isn't amoral to take design ideas from Pokemon and implement them better anyway.
it's just annoying seeing the internet at large suddenly become woke to content theft and start looking for it at every opportunity, or just making it up when it isn't present
not him, IP rights have been a disaster for human development
instead of many people culturally exploring a topic, IP rights holders strangle culture so that they can squeeze blood out of a stone for 100 years until the IP becomes public
example, we could have easily explored scientology decades ago if they weren't able to sue for IP defamation when people exposed the cult
there is no good benefit to IP
Yup. IP should only be to protect you in the immediate. It shouldn't be to protect your family or your estate. If you can't use IP to get money to give them a comfortable life within your life time, than you were just a failure anyway and extending it 50-70 years after isn't going to change that. Other people with better ideas should get access to the IP to really show how it's done.
Well, the only good reason is that we don't want to encourage people to be lazy in their creative endeavors. Obviously we are already experiencing this now, since everyone trend chases genre, even if not the same designs. Look at how much people rag on BotW clones. Even if the game is fun, it doesn't matter if it's constantly compared to other game. Now what people don't want to imagine, is that the thing you are copying has already been handled so poorly that the copy is just that much better and this obviously ties into IP law and the ups and downs of that.
IP rights need to be destroyed, it's been only negative for humanity and evolution as a whole
It certainly has been pretty bad all things considered. I would say a good 80% of the time, it has just enabled people to be just as lazy with franchises. Obviously, if you had to compete with other people also making games in that system, you would have to be better. This is what happened with D&D when second edition made the OGL. It meant that the original authors would always need to be thinking of something fresh, because otherwise someone else could also make something amazing and take a slice of the pie. There is a reason that Wizards tried to turn this outsiders making money into them being able to make money off of them making money. Because ultimately Wizards have no more creativity to pour into D&D, but still want the slice of the pie everyone else was getting. IP laws allow this bullshit to persist, when really, D&D should have become public domain and everyone would be free to make money off it the way they want to, while Wizards would instead be forced to make "next thing" and prove they still have creativity. IP laws as they exist now, simply prop up long dead companies that thrive off of brands, because humans are nostalgic creatures that don't want to give up the status quo.
IP should be non-transferable and shouldn't last beyond the life of the creator, simple as
when people were trying to sue fortnite because they made similar dances, this is the proof of how bad IP retention has gotten
humanity cannot develop with IP laws, it only restricts, it never cultivates, it never inspires, it only seeks to destroy natural evolution
the natural state of humanity are memes, references, imitations, parodies, caricatures
this is where all our humor is derived from, this is the birthplace of our creativity
IP is no different than bottling up air and water and demanding the people to pay for it
That patent actually ran out a while ago, but people don't want to use them because Bamco still gets fricking pissy about it, on top of the fact that load times are now super short, so there is little point in doing so.
we also can't have the nemesis system from shadow of mordor because it's patented, no random monsters can retain knowledge about the player and come back to fight them at a later date, it's stuck is a mid "LoTR" game that sold single player MTX
I think that is something that people don't want to acknowledge. When asked about why water bottles or whatever is so expensive, it's always said >It's the convenience, you are paying for me bringing it to you
What you are paying for isn't the water, it is the concept of convenience. When some people brought this to attention, only than did water companies try to say that they were adding things to the water to make it better, so it was a service thing. Companies know it's bullshit, but are hoping that you won't question it. Paying for nothing, that's the long and short of it. For hundreds of years, people have been paying for nothing and companies laugh all the way to the bank.
I literally don't give a frick. The game is good.
If they ripped the textures straight from Pokémon outright, every monster a 1 to 1 copy, I still wouldn't give a frick.
I want good games. I don't give a shit about copyright.
No. It's not the consumer's responsibility. If the legal teams at the company want to they can deal with it. I don't care, and neither should any average consumer.
This shitty moralism where morons think it's their personal responsibility to get upset and boycott inconsequential (to them) shit is out of hand. You can get upset if the company is doing objectively immoral shit, but plagiarism is just legal mumbo jumbo
I think Palworld should go with a different art style for their pals than looking like fake pokemon, just to distance themselves. And don't be moronic about it, there are some pals that have designs lifted straight off of pokemon, like pic related. I won't be surprised if they have to redesign some of them, it's still an early access game. But there were some examples I saw that were reaching hard because a pal and pokemon looked like rhinoceros beetles.
>I think Palworld should go with a different art style for their pals than looking like fake pokemon, just to distance themselves
Anon a lot of their designs look better than modern pokemon, they've clearly took inspiration from gens 2-3 and those design styles have been long abandoned by gamefreak

Let's see how much merc your shitty Gardevoir clone sells when compared to the original? Imagine comparing the chink knockoff to one of the most popular pokemon ever made. Palslopper really are moronic.
The Pokemon designs are what are actually popular about monster catching games though. Not a single other monster catcher has ever done even remotely as well as Pokemon and that's because Pokemon focuses on making appealing, marketable designs first and doesn't give a shit about the gameplay, like, at all. If anyone were going to take one single element from Pokemon to make a popular entertainment product it would be the designs. >hurrr durrr I think the record setting game should abandon the one thing that made it sell so well durrrp hurrrp
Ganker proving once again that they should never, under any circumstances, make vidya.
I just find their designs too bland because there's little to none detail on them. Not saying they should look realistic, but at least don't make it stand out compared to everything else surrounding it.

Leftists “artists” are the ones complaining about this the most which is funny because their argument boils down to “we need harsher copyright laws” pretty funny honestly.
>We need to crack down on small companies trying to break into the scene. Only the big ones are allowed to make things, because they agree with "current thing" >What do you mean you thought I was against Capitalism, I am. I hate companies that take advantage of society and dictate how we should live. I'm all for socialism and I know company X, Y, Z is too.
Yeah, really funny.
Some of the best Japanese artists around get their start from making unofficial fanart and manga based on existing properties. Doujinshi, some sell it too

Everyone is cheering for this. They correctly recognize that the laws are trash and that if you are going to sit on something for years and not improve it you don't have the right to be angry when someone does.

yes, we should talk about how Pokémon ripped off Dragon Quest
Everyone already talked about that 30 years ago though. Nobody is under the impression that Pokemon created the monster catching genre.

This comic is very sexist, why make a distinction between men and women ego.
it's like when someone accuses you of being defensive and you can't defend yourself or he'll say "SEE YOU'RE DEFENSIVE"
annoying, but the winning move really is not to play. You don't "need" to prove anything to anyone even if they're an obnoxious asshat.

>hurrr durrr I think the record setting game should abandon the one thing that made it sell so well durrrp hurrrp
Ganker proving once again that they should never, under any circumstances, make vidya.
i just wanna see cool monsters homie
Uh, is there really some kind of controversy about this? No shit it's a Pokemon knockoff how is this even a discussion
Like I give a flying fricking shit if someone plagiarizes Pokemon.
Leftists “artists” are the ones complaining about this the most which is funny because their argument boils down to “we need harsher copyright laws” pretty funny honestly.
>We need to crack down on small companies trying to break into the scene. Only the big ones are allowed to make things, because they agree with "current thing"
>What do you mean you thought I was against Capitalism, I am. I hate companies that take advantage of society and dictate how we should live. I'm all for socialism and I know company X, Y, Z is too.
Yeah, really funny.
Twitter leftists are the biggest corporate bootlickers in the world
Remember when everyone was on Dark and Darker’s side when they were getting sued by Nexon for copyright infringement?
Nope wouldn't care even if it was proved true.
umadbro?
Some of the best Japanese artists around get their start from making unofficial fanart and manga based on existing properties. Doujinshi, some sell it too
Sufficiently legally distinct from Pokémon and ark.
Next question.
>tendie thinks people care that its ripping off pokemon & ark
Everyone is cheering for this. They correctly recognize that the laws are trash and that if you are going to sit on something for years and not improve it you don't have the right to be angry when someone does.
>mud skin minority draws violent mob to unrelated white male
kek
>Say dumb thing
>Get surprised and angry enough that you have to draw a comic when you get called moronic
Truly a woman moment.
What was plagiarized?
IF you mean Nintendo Mafia's thick wallets? Yes.
Everything in the world is copied from a previous idea. Even Pokemon.
The thing with plagiarism is that you must change your homework and not look like the kid next to you or you will be called out for copying.
They are stepping on Nintendo's toes pretty hard here and they won't get away with it. Chinese botfarms in full damage control mode lmao.
The funny part is that you can make this comic from either side and they'd both be true.
pikapepe is le sad because you indie morons stole pocketmen from bsaed nintendo
>Wufflez
Is there at least one troony comic maker who's not secretly a sexually-deranged freak left after Tumblr set them out to roam free on the clearnet?
This kind of projecting is just so fricking funny.
