Silent Hill 2

Is it really worthy of its legendary status as one of if not the GOAT survival horror game?

      >it’s not scary
To me it’s the scariest. Stuff like that is subjective, I thought SH3 was just too much in comparison that it turned around to not being scary (still a great game). I’d probably rank 2 > 1 > 4 > 3 in terms of spookiness.

      >piss easy on any difficulty
You didn't actually try Hard Mode then. That's some of the most tedious and unbalanced and unplaytested shit ever. Literally a hundred enemies in places there would otherwise only be two.

        What?
Hard and Normal are basically the same except the last pyramid head fight is like 30 fricking minutes.

1 is better in the gameplay department.

What the zoomers do not understand is that its not the GOAT survival horror because of gameplay, monster placements or even its locations. Its a combination of how absurdly detailed Team Silent was to the point of autism in the games set pieces, horror moments with practically not a single jump scare in the whole game (I believe you can skip most if not all the jump scare moments in the game), there meticulous attention to details that even modern developers constantly overlook, and this is in addition to the atmosphere and soundtrack. Its more like an experience then a GOAT video game. Which is why zoomers and casual normals will probably never get what made the game so special in the first place when they refuse to play it and skip to the remake.

Very true. The power of SH2 is how the entire game succeeds in making you feel uneasy. The oppressive dream logic environments, the blasting static, the resource management, how everyone you meet just acts off. SH was always about the slow burn of creeping you out and making you dread progression because somehow things just keep getting worse. If you have an IQ higher than 95, then you'll appreciate the experience and it'll stick with you for a long time after you play it. If you unironically use terms like "bussin'" and "no cap," then you'll hate it.

You can stun-lock the monsters by shooting them. They don't walk towards you as you shoot them.

They're all shit. I'm genuinely curious how the remake is going to try to fix them.

Is there a single redeemable boss fight encounter in these games? At least one that is passable?

Bosses in the old Silent Hill games (1-4) were never about making you feel cool or tough or whatever. It's not Ninja Gaiden. The combat is bad on purpose. It's awkward on purpose. It's meant to be unpleasant. Your supposed to think more about the significance that the boss encounter has to the story/narrative. In SH2, almost every boss tells you something important about James, the environment, or one of the other people you meet in the town.

Eddie boss is unforgivable tho. It should've been cut.

Ico holds up better, if we're talking heavily atmospheric games released in 2001 and created from scratch for PS2.

I can defend the outdoor areas, the "dungeons" and even the boat section, but i cannot defend the enemies and boss fights.

Silent Hill 2 is a piece of art that saved millions of lives throughout the world. It's more than a video game, it's art.

It should've been another PS1 game like the first one. It's not like PS1 didn't get any games in 2001.

No. Gameplay is almost non-existent. The story is mildly amusing. Music is great. Animations are laughable at best. Its grossly overrated by midwit core enthusiasts and ebay scalpers
