Series needs to go in some wild directions and see if it can find some interesting ground. Series is fricked beyond belief at this point so who cares what happens with it. Silent Hill f seems like the best of the recent announcements.

At least with Ryukishi writing there's a good shot at some decent character writing. The setting is basically Higurashi's, he made that rural Japanese village pretty spooky so I have high hopes the story won't be shit.

good chunk of 3 isn't set in Silent hill, 4 isn't in Silent hill and 5 is like a neighboring town

I'm assuming this is a reboot with planned sequels that center around this new Japanese village. Nip Alessa is warping reality and creating an otherworld of her own. Otherwise, it's gonna have time travel. Well, it's going to have time travel anyway because it's Ryukishi.

I trust Ryukishi to give us a solid atmosphere with interesting characters. I just hope somebody reigns in his autism so we don't get shit like time travel.

You literally go back to silent hill in 3. That said they might be leaning towards treating Silent Hill as a metaphysical dimension, personalized to be one's specific hell,as to it being an actual place on the map. Or it just be a town in Japan also called Silent Hill, like how there's a Paris in France and one in Texas.

The town will have a dark past connected to WW2, there will be nationalistic undertones, one of the character will be stuck in a timeloop, one of the character will be a troony, one of the character is bullied at school and/or abused by her close familly, the ending will be shit

What the frick is the point of a new Silent Hill game? Like, why did this completely original looking japanese horror game need to have the Silent Hill title?

When people ask for a new Silent Hill, what specifically are they asking for? More Pyramid Head? More nurses? More small town that stopped being scary by the time you get there in Silent Hill 3?

I fricking LOVE Silent Hill 1-4, but holy frick why can't it just rest

Because both vidya companies and fandoms have no idea how to let something go and let it die with dignity rather than continually trotting out its corpse to milk dust from its desiccated breasts. You know how many people on here get mad if you suggest their favorite series that they constantly complain has gone to shit should just be left alone rather than allowed to be continually raped in the hopes that they'll get one more game that's even a tenth as good as a title from its glory days?

Fricking Mega Man and Castlevania fans. Some people just can't accept that a franchise is over. They need a new game (that they'll hate anyway).

I've thought about this before and honestly I think it really is the series namesake that is where I think Team Silent had their lightning in a bottle moment. Settings in psychological horror games are kind of hard to do unless you make it take place in their head, justifying the existence of monsters based on the human psyche is difficult to do. Silent Hill as a setting is so brilliant and I honestly can't think of how you can create a setting like it without really just ripping it off entirely.

Silent Hill didn't invent the concept of a location manifesting monsters from a character's mind.

          Anonymous

It didn't, but I think it's the best usage of it I know of. My point is I think SH's take on this concept is distinct since it doesn't rely on your typical reasons most horror presents like demons, aliens, or mutants.

How the frick did a plant from rural Japan end up in bumfrick nowhere America? SH1 establishes that it was used as far back as the early 1600s, it's been in the US for centuries now.

What human had traveled from Japan to the US in the 1500s or earlier?

Personally I feel like bringing the force to another continent cheapens the setting, but I get that they could only show so much of Silent Hill itself.

I feel like they may do the opposite. Somehow someone in Japan learned of what the cult was doing in the US and tried their hand at summoning or something. Maybe they are furious about surrendering to the west after WW2 and want a revenging god to be called forth. Basically doing SH1 plot beats again but in a Japanese setting and no father looking for his daughter.

Imagine the order, but with shinto rituals and Japanese gods/goddesses.

          Anonymous

Yeah that's mostly my current idea of what to expect. Instead of Flauros it'll be some Japanese god or demon and will be some flower type horror. There will be a Pyramid Head equivalent for the protagonist because they can't help themselves, but will not be PH himself of course. Probably some shit involving the hundreds of thousands of bodies atomized from the two nukes being a catalyst to bring forth the otherworld or something, trying to think like Ryukishi.

The original four games are like 3/4 set in Silent Hill; 1 & 2 are there for the entire game, half of 3 is there and technically about half of 4 is also there (orphanage and water prison are Silent Hill locations).
