Silhouettes are the biggest fricking meme about game design for characthers, people only recognizes the characther because it's either already popular in a iconic pose or because it has a cartoonish design

Silhouette is just a small part of good character design but of course you are autistic and think it's everything

It's so fricking small yet is always parroted by homosexuals who never worked in game design to be the peak test to make a good design

Congratulations, you've now discovered that design has, is, and always will be a grift for trust fund babies to feel important about picking an arbitrary forced meme and having it artificially appraise in value via "exposure".

Any moron can design mario or sonic, but they do not have the funding, marketing, and years of shilling to say that their scrimblo design is "actually good" due to it being crammed down millions of people's throats for days, weeks, months, and years of time.

Remember folks, design is good, because it's popular, it's not popular because it's good.

Top row 3rd place is an enemy from Quake 4 that people meme about all the time because of how goofy it is. Top row 1st place is a Kingdom Shart character with a giant pizza cutter as a weapon. I thought Bottom Row 1st place was Lars from Tekken but it's not. Bottom row 3rd place looks like Mr. CUHRAYZE with his cowboy hate. These are all probably wrong except Quake enemy.

It's a meme pushed by manchildren that only consume children's entertainmeint, so they put too much value on corporate mascots.
This is why modern cartoons have stiff animation and generic 3/4 angles.

That's not what he's talking about and you know it, he's tilting against a pattern of social media posts like the one in the OP image that

      was made to parody.

Okay then call those posts out rather than calling out silhouettes as an artistic concept. Or don't because this board isn't for venting about tweets you read from literal whos.

eh, it's easy to argue about even in legit discussion, so no need to begrudge non-artgays for their dismissal

What's their to argue about though in "legit discussions"? They're a tool artists can use and each artist puts their own amount of importance on it. The vast majority of what is impressed upon artists with the focus on silhouttes is regaeding readability and strong posing rather than this notion that the character is always individually identifiable within every single frame.

Whose to argue about though in "legit discussions"? The argue about though in "legit discussions" in whose possession?

It's funny to me that the only reason I recognize this silhouette is because Ganker memed him to death.

For me it’s not that they’re “wrong”. There’s some truth behind the concept, but there’s a lot more nuance behind it that is never elaborated upon by those social media posters, so it comes up as being a half-assed lecture by some poser trying to come off as a professional. Another example is the so called Pixar’s rules of storytelling as well as the principles of animation.

It's just autism bait. Autists have a need to name any black silhouette they recognize.

What you're talking about is literally the point of the silhouette thing. The point is if there's sufficient enough marketing of a character for it to be recognized by the silhouette. Being "iconic" means being recognizable, so I don't get what your problem is exactly.

sillhouette character design is important withing the same game/media they're from to easily identify by player.

Iconic sillhouettes are only important on logos and mascots
