It's going to be way more niche as a shopkeep sim with a focus on combat that not a whole lot of people cared about in the first game. I'd honestly rather he just add it to stardew, charge for it if he wants, but I'd rather play stardew with haunted chocolatier in it than haunted chocolatier alone.

It would give your wife and maybe kids something nice to do too instead of being glorified furniture for your home. Let her manage the shop while you deal with other things and then you can take over when you want. Have them not be as efficient at it as the player, but can level up and get better at it over time.
I liked the combat. It was simple, but the pushback with hitting enemies and the WHUMP sound effect was just satisfying and I had fun figuring out how to maximize my murderhobo and SPEEEEEEED abilities to zip through the mines without staircases.

Interesting take I hadn't considered. Normally I'd call people filthy casuals, but it is supposed to be a comfy laid back game for everyone. The only real defense is you don't technically ever have to engage in combat and there are mods that address it like pacifist valley.
Speaking of animal crossing I wish stardew would lift ideas from that too, the villagers could use a lot more tlc.

If you don't totem to the desert you won't get deep enough to break even on the resources you spent to get through the cavern + lost income from non farming sources.
That's easier now since 1.5 because you can merge rings at the forge and get better gear. Totems/staff/bombs/staircases is doable. As for shit that's fricked up, beating this mini game deathless as an achievement, why the frick does a easy/comfy game have such a bull busting achievement?
