Except he didn't do that. No one made grimoire clones. If anything the upcoming mystic lands will revive wiz 7 style games. He basically spent 20 years making a shitpost that was forgotten in a day.

of course, wiz 7 clones are pearls before swine, they can never be popular. mouthbreathers will always prefer dungeon master clones and its mindless spam. cleve gave those guys some good advice on making their game, hope they do well.

I don't think anything will revive (mainstream) drpgs at this point.

The only way to appeal to big audiences is to do realtime like grimrock. Wizardry games were a product of their time and as good as Grimoire was (and mystic lands has the potential to be) I don't think such games will ever sell more than a few thousand copies if that, unless they go all in on waifu baiting like Japanese drpgs do.

If the genre really had potential to still be popular, alive, and kicking, we'd have seen some big studio or team bring it back already. Normies don't have the patience for turn based dungeon crawling.

Good? Anything normalgays hate not only is good by default but also won't be pozzws to appeal to Twittergays

Normies don't really care they just want to play something fun. The only people who are vocal about a game not being woke is literally who's on twitter.

You guys need a new Internet. Something with technological know-how barrier to deter the normalhomosexual hordes. I'm too tired to go forward. I'll just subsist on the things I have saved, and things I hope to save once I have the ability. Maybe if some autists revive ADSL, I guess. Fido even.

So what was entire story behind this individual. I know only that he had beef with Sirtech and was making some random dungeon crawler for rest of his waking life out of spite

      Anonymous

Sir-Tech had beef with him because he called them out and they didn't like his politics/personality, they even put a mockery of him in JA2. He really liked Wiz 7 and wanted to make a successor, so he worked on Grimoire on and off for years while people thought it was a troll. Really funny guy that makes some RPG autists mad.

He's apparently a good programmer and Sir-tech hired him to salvage the Wiz 8 fiasco. Robert Sirotek claims he was merely disgruntled and fired, but it seems to me more that Robert didn't like his dirty laundry being aired and a letter of resignation surfaced later on when someone bought an old storage unit of Sirtech shit.

He's certainly loquacious, but the situation is fairly absurd too, so he wasn't simply quitting but informing them of how they were being scammed.

I believe it's still visible if you have a codex account. Though I think the thread was locked from public view years ago. If you cared enough you could probably find it using the wayback machine or something similar and hope they archived it.

Dungeon crawlers never went anywhere, they were kept steadily alive by better devs (mostly japanese).
Grimoire is a wet fart that is already forgotten.

What (japanese) dungeon crawlers are better than Grimoire? Hell, what japanese dungeon crawlers are better than western dungeon crawlers from the 90s?

The way I see it, at least out of the japanese dungeon crawlers I've played, japs never fully moved on from the first three wizardry games. The graphics, UI, QoL, got "better", but for all intents and purposes they've almost all about automapping your way through dime a dozen dungeons with the barest hint of lore or story while grinding your way through a fricktillion enemies. Puzzles are made up solely of mind numbing shit we saw 40 years ago like hidden doors and dark zones.

The impression I got was that once you've played one of them you've played them all since they barely bother to stand out from each other.

        >instead of engaging with complex and novel battle mechanics and progression economies, I would rather do puzzles for 4 years old while being interrupted constantly by combat
Japanese devs understand what the real meat of those games are, westoids are obsessed with dumb shit that doesn't matter

Name some actual games or gtfo. I've yet to play a japanese dungeon crawler that's anything like what you described. Every single one is a button mashing grindfest where the only thing that matters is pumping numbers up to be bigger and bigger

No games are "forgotten" anymore. Very very few people will play Grimoire for many years yet.
