Say what you want about the Sinnoh games as a whole but Sinnoh, as a region, is fricking fantastic.
It's got a reasonable handful of unique biomes yet explicitly keeps them all believably tied into a northern climate.
It has a consistency in its overall atmosphere that keeps it all feeling distinct and memorable as a cohesive whole.
The way in which you progress through it is also great in my opinion.
It's the perfect mix of linear and non-linear, with just enough backtracking to make the region feel like a sandbox you're uncovering and settling into rather than a series of linear areas you're being guided through, yet not so much backtracking that your progression feels senseless.
All the complaints and criticisms Sinnoh faces are inflated beyond their actual proportions, too.
HMs only start to become excessive late game and by then you'd ought to have a lot of pokemon so it's not an issue.
Things like the snow and mud are minorly annoying at worst, and they increase your overall playtime by like, MAYBE 5 minutes, most of your time will be spent battling anyway.
The regional dex is a touch small in DP but it's not remotely hard to put together a good team unless you explicitly apply your own autistic restrictions on what can and can't be used.
The fact that these are the best criticisms people can come up with is really a testament to Sinnoh's overall quality.
>It's got a reasonable handful of unique biomes
"grassland with mountain", "cave", and "snow" aren't a handful of unique biomes, it's complete shit
>It has a consistency in its overall atmosphere that keeps it all feeling distinct and memorable as a cohesive whole
Yeah it's memorable because of how distinctly shit it is and you remember the game constantly spamming geodude/zubat/machop lines at you
>The way in which you progress through it is also great in my opinion
Yeah I love finding shitty lazily made roadblocks everywhere on top of the 8.5 HMs
>It's the perfect mix of linear and non-linear
No, it's just linear
Discord.
I'm not sure what my transgender friend here is talking about, none of those "issues" exist in BDSP.
Why do kalos kids complain about kinnoh so much?
They don’t like actually well designed regions
>XY dungeons
>each one is distinct with several unique pokemon that makes traversing it actually fun
>Shitnoh dungeons
>GEODUDE ZUBAT GEODUDE GEODUDE ZUBAT GEODUDE GOLBAT GEODUDE walking simulator
Why don’t you just go play a bad rom hack like radical reddit if you hate encountering the same pokemon twice
>AAAAAIIIIIIII A-ARE THOSE?? ROCKS AND BATS IN A CAVE??!? NOOOOOOOOOOO KALOS-SAMA SAVE ME WITH YOUR OVER-INFLATED DEX SIZE TO HIDE THE COMPLETE LACK OF ACTUAL NEW POKÉMON
A-ARE THOSE?? THE GAME POINTLESSLY WASTING MY TIME WITH THE SAME 2 ENCOUNTERS??!? KALOS-SAMA SAVE ME WITH YOUR ACTUAL FUN WELL DESIGNED GAMEPLAY
this but unironically
also anon I hate to break this to you but Platinum has exactly zero new Pokemon so it also fails to beat XY in that department.
> but Platinum has exactly zero new Pokemon
Um actually yawnie, it has the rotom forms, Shaymin(not available in any previous game without glitching), and Giratina-Origin
Platinum isn’t a new game moron it’s a directors cut of DP. Imagine trying to spin the lack of a Z version in your favour.
> Platinum isn’t a new game
Yes it is.
>Mindlessly spamming random mons in a zone isn’t good design
Good thing XY doesn’t do that and every Pokemon is thoughtfully placed then, huh?
Mindlessly spamming random mons in a zone isn’t good design
>I saw no noticeable difference with RS and Emerald's battle speeds
That’s exactly what I am saying, Emerald didn’t change RS’s speed which is why there’s no meme about RS being slow.
Also gen 3 has the HP scrolling bug too, but it scrolls twice faster due to 60 fps (the bug is that only one HP gets drained per frame). Same goes for gen 5
there's no meme about rs being slow because it isn't slow compared to the other games moron
Every game has slow moments though
If Emerald increased RS’ dive speed, indoors speed or battle intro speed people would be calling RS slow. They don’t become they have no game that are faster with the same engine to compare it to
This moron has no eye for environments and it shows. Sinnoh has
>Valleys
>Farmland
>Meadows
>Marshland
>Coastal beaches
>Snowy tundras
>Misty and snowy mountaintops
Sprinkle in some landmarks like the old chateau nestled in eterna forest, the lost tower sitting in a crater in the riverlands of route 209, Solaceon ruins hidden in a grotto near the farmlands, and of course, spear pillar protruding at Mt Coronets peak, and you’ve got yourself a good ass region filled with a distinctly ominous and historic identity. I swear to god some of you won’t be pleased unless every region has some mish-mash of every biome on the planet. Sinnoh feels like a studio ghibli setting, in a good way.
Facts.
True
>OP is still seething from
completely BTFOing his game
lmao
>go find this post in the archive
>it was posted more than 6 months ago

"grassland with mountain", "cave", and "snow" aren't a handful of unique biomes, it's complete shit

No, it's just linear
yeah turns out critiques against low quality games are still valid after 6 months when no one refutes them
but enough about galar
not anymore
I like Sinnoh. Love the region, pokemon, lore, music. But the HMs are a bit silly, lol.
>recently finish Pearl
>trying to collect all the Poketch apps
>see some guy in Sunyshore gives you 3 for showing him pokemon with specific natures
>run around the city looking for his house, finally find it gated behind rock climb
>run back to the pokemon center and pick up Bidoof
>run all the way back to his house
>realize I grabbed the wrong Bidoof that doesn't have Rock Climb
AHHHHHH. Why are they spamming this shit in a town lol
You would also already have Rock Climb at this point in the game too, so it's not like I would be backtracking for a secret
That was my childhood.
I'm so sorry
take meds Chuddie
why are you obsessed with meds? I guess I would use drugs to escape reality if my childhood was shit too.
underage and ba-
>DP came out in 2007 in US
Same
Johto is the best region.
Yes.
Explain to a boomer who never played Diamond or Pearl (or any pokemon game after gen 4) what went wrong with Sinnoh as a region
Looking at OP's pic, Sinnoh looks pretty comfy and the starters all have cool designs. I also consider Gen 4 to be the last canon gen considering pokemon designs took a fricking nose dive after.
We larping today? I wanna be a trillionaire.
>We larping today?
How am I larping? I just want to hear what's wrong with Sinnoh. I never played Diamond or Pearl....
Yes you just happen to be the tenth boomer who never played the games you're about to defend against all criticism in the last week. Very convenient. If anyone believes this at this point I have a bridge to sell them.
>you're about to defend against all criticism
Lol ok schizo. How can I defend something I never fricking played?? I just said OPs map looks comfy and the starters look cool (the only gen 4 pokemon i know)
>Honestly just go fire up an emulator and play DP
I have zero desire to play DP. I'll consider maybe trying the romhack. I just saw the thread and was curious what were the complaints. Im a Johto gay and although I'm biased I understand the complaints with the region
>Explain to a boomer who never played Diamond or Pearl (or any pokemon game after gen 4) what went wrong with Sinnoh as a region
Honestly just go fire up an emulator and play DP, form your own opinion. Genwars have been co-opted by the most mentally ill. Even classic complaints for regions have been twisted and mutated into terrible overexaggerated shitposts.
No don't play it it sucks
Nothing is wrong with Sinnoh. It's a great region and fun to make your way through it. You should play through Platinum
snow, fog, mud, hms, too much cave, 30 fps, slow bag, bad new evolutions, god pokemon, shitty story, honey trees, bad pokemon distribution at least in base DP, saving a lot of data.....
yawngay will fill you in on the rest. i love sinnoh btw
None of these are bad
honey trees are. you'll almost never get a munhclax on a normal playthrough. at least changing with the time works for the great marsh and drifloon
Munchlax being rare is based. Rarity is what makes things valuable and creates unique experiences in these games, which is exactly what the new games lack.
Honey trees were cancer though
Not much more than berry farming
I guess the fact that you can get nothing is annoying but that’s about it
>plant berry
>come back and get 2-4 of the same berry
>put honey down expecting munchlax or combee or burmy
>come back and get wurmple
You forgot the part where the only berries that are actually good for contests in gen 3 (excluding e reader bullshit) take 48 hours to grow (honey trees are 6 hours) and drop 1-2 berry, 2 being if you checked back every 16 hours to water them.
And you only get one of each of these berries.
And it’s locked behind a password that isn’t indicated anywhere in the game.
And 2 of these passwords you can only enter after beating the hall of fame.
And 2 others you can only enter if you have seen Latios or Latias respectively, two post game, roaming, version exclusive Pokémon.
B-but yeah Sinnoh honey trees that’s the real issue that’s bad haha
i was specifically talking about growing berries in dppt you sperg
DPPt did make berry farming better but it’s still longer than honey trees and you need to check back multiple times to water them if you want the maximum amount of berries
I'm not defending the slowness, but my OCD needs to point out that
>30 fps
>slow bag
have nothing to do with the region. Those are game engine problems. I could argue further that pokemon and story have nothing to do with map design as well.
It shares a lot of problems with Johto - general slowness, bad Pokemon distribution in DP, and annoying time-based events like honey trees and certain evolution methods. Most people today play on speed up, so the slowness is not a problem, and most of the new Pokemon you can catch easily are actually usable unlike in Johto. And obviously you can change the DS clock, but you shouldn't have to do that in the first place.
It’s weird because I only see people complain about the games being "slow" now, with speed up being readily available, I never saw anybody mention this at the time when everyone was playing on hardware and speed up wasn’t a thing.
I noticed it as a kid in Diamond after playing Emerald. The random delays in battles and "saving a lot of data" were easy to see. You didn't see anyone complain about it in 2006 because huge public platforms like YouTube and Twitter weren't a thing back then, it was still isolated forums and chatrooms.
The saving a lot of data thing is the only thing I saw people poke fun at even online
The battle delays only started being acknowledged when platinum came out and people were only comparing it to platinum
When a battle starts, you can see the Poke ball staying on the screen for 10 years before the Pokemon is released. Then there's always weird pauses between each transition. Emerald's battles felt way snappier.
It's not just the start of the battle, it's every Pokemon the opponent releases.
You can see this now that platinum released but before then it was less noticeable because every battle system has slow moments. Few people complain about RS’s slow battle intros (both for wild pokemon and trainers) because no other gen 3 game changed it, but if Emerald did speed it up then everyone would see it in RS too
No, you can see this with DP alone. I saw no noticeable difference with RS and Emerald's battle speeds, and they definitely didn't feel as slow. You might even notice gen 4 had the same HP scrolling bug as gen 2 did, but you didn't notice it there until Red because of the low as frick level scaling.
The walking speed surfing was also extremely noticeable. I was in middle school when dp came out and my friends and I all complained about the surfing and saving a lot of data.
Honey trees are a fine mechanic I have no fricking idea why they’re such an issue for some people. You can do more than 1 tree at once, so if you slather 2-3 trees at a time just in the areas surrounding whatever town/city you’re in, you’ll pretty quickly find whatever mon you’re looking for. I remember when I was filling out the dex during my most recent Pearl run I found all the honey tree encounters aside from heracross and munchlax by the time I got to Eterna
>I got lucky so not my problem
I'm glad you were blessed by RNG for early Munchlax trees and hit the 1% chance. Most people aren't so fortunate.
Reading comprehension
My bad. That is a nothing post then because
heracross and munchlax are the only relevant encounters
Wurmple and its cocoon forms are the only possible honey tree encounters that are not exclusive to this method
>combee
>burmy
>cherubi
shitmons
>aipom
incredibly mid in-game
Vespiquen isn’t a shitmon with its bulk and 3 signature moves.
Ambipom is very fast and hits pretty hard with stab normal moves.
vespiquen is 100% a shitmon when it doesn't do anything aside wall stuff badly with its shit typing and average defensive stats. signature moves don't automatically make something good. it suffers from gen 2 nu-mon syndrome where it's overly hard to find but still garbage in battle
ambipom is okay but uninteresting. stab normal is not special at all
>it suffers from gen 2 nu-mon syndrome
gen2 is nu-mon?
A lot of GSC's new Pokemon are overly difficult to obtain and suck ass in the main game. See Xatu, Mantine, Dunsparce, most of the bugs, etc.
102 defensive stats are good enough for the main game and a 90 bp bug stab is good.
Ambipom is one of the fastest pokemon in DP’s regional dex
>it suffers from gen 2 nu-mon syndrome
Nah. I’m not a fan of Gen 4 mon, but Vespiqueen’s problem is that bug/flying is a dogshit type. Doesn’t help that finding a male Combee is a waste of time.
Gen 2 rare mon are mostly redundant AND have significantly worse stat totals than Vespiqueen. Poor bastards.
>Doesn’t help that finding a male Combee is a waste of time
you can soft reset to change the gender
>soft reset
which is also wasting time
how's it any different from running around in the grass to catch a female snorunt for example
ngl i thought vespiquen's bst was lower than it really was. however it's still barely usable with its typing and terrible offensive stats
assuming you don't soft reset the gender, female combee and heracross actually have similar encounter rates. which one is better in-game? obviously the one with much better offensive stats, typing, and moves
i've used both vespiquen and ambipom without any issue. you are a pleb.
female combee and munchlax
>Gen 4 to be the last canon gen considering pokemon designs took a fricking nose dive after.
>after
Gen 4 has the worst Pokedex. They spent all their time on the shillmons, Lucario, Garchomp, Rotom, and Croagunk.
nah 5, 7, 8, and 9 are worse
>They spent all their time on the [most popular nu-gen pokemon, only ones close to Kanto pokemon in popularity]
Sounds like they made the right decision to me.
yup
trufax: people that hate sinnoh all wish they were women, so their opinions are safely disreguarded.
It’s cool that it was built around a central area (Mt coronet). Really puts the emphasis on the theological themes of Sinnoh.
Also the games are the best as well. Well, if you only take the first game of every gen into account then DP gets seconded by BW, but nothing compares to Platinum
>sinnovary and also unovabortion
Yeah. That’s called being a normal person
Guys I found the most straight sinnoh hater
>"sinnoh bad because you can't use Gliscor until the post-game in DP"
>"HGSS fixed all of the issues DPPT have"
>still can't use Gliscor until the post-game
Must be autism. Platinum is the only Gen 4 you can play through with a Gliscor lol.
meds
Reminder that it’s very easy to check if a tree can produce a Munchlax
If a tree gives you lots of Combee and few Wurmple then it’s a Munchlax tree
>snowy, cold region
>new designs have vibrant colors
Why? On top of not being a big fan of Gen 4’s “Gen 3 taken further” design style, the color palettes look all wrong for the climate of the region, in my opinion.
only the northern part of Sinnoh is snowy.
The rest of the island is based on Mediterranean countries. Battle Zone is tropical, Spear Pillar designed after Greco-Romano ruins, Lucario and Weavile are both Egyptian.
Nah it's objectively one of the worst regions and gens overally. Just say you grew up playing it and spare us your attempt at justifying your emotional attachment.
Adding the word objectively to your opinion doesn’t make it more valid, it just makes you look moronic
nah it’s objectively one of the best
Yeah its top 10 region for sure.
It’s better than any region with no actual snow area
its in the 90th percentile for regions
My counter argument.
not a very good counter argument
