Dawn has all three. The boys cry about it.
Piplup and Dawn are the iconic duo, plus I picked Turtwig, so the middle one.
Dawn and Piplup are iconic together. Chimchar is the only one that fits Barry's personality. Lucas gets Turtwig by process of elimination, but I think they go together well enough.

I personally choose turtwig but C feels most canon to me, infernape is just such a protagonist mon and empoleon just feels right with barry, that said there's good arguments for any of them

B. The only reason Barry gets paired with empoleon is because Ash cucked him out of chimchar in the anime. Infernape was made for his personality. Dawn and Piplup are iconic. Lucas and turtwig just feel right with each other

Ok but seriously the anime/manga totally fits the characters the best since Lucas is slow (slow game haha), Barry is fast and Piplup/ Impoleon just seems perfect for Dawn with contests and just the general color scheme

B, definitely. Chimchar's the only one that suits Barry and Piplup works best for Dawn.

i like lucas and barry having starters that balance out their mellowness and hyperactivity respectively, makes for a better character arc, needing to learn from the other's main trait in order to work better with their pokemon because they got them in a rush from the professor's bag
