We’ve still not seen a Pokémon with a Mega get a cross-gen because MEs are labelled as “an evolution beyond the normal boundaries evolution”. Whereas Gmax was launched with NFEs.

...Are you kidding me? We don't know all the details yet, but there's no way the "Normal" Terapagos is going to have a Legendary BST. Terapagos is basically doomed to be a Legendary trophy shitmon like Cosmog/Cosmoem, Poiple, and Meltan after the series moves on from SV.

I was sincerely hoping that the baby was the start of an evolutionary line which started with it, and then moved up to the glowing Terapagos with a fully-formed shell. Has any Legendary been screwed over this badly before? Even Zygarde has both its 10% and 50% Forms, with its 100% being triggered by its Ability. Hell, Ogrepon already exists to shill Tera Forms. IDK, I dislike this.

you're missing the bigger apple of that ability, you can literally have a Smeargler almost always hit Dark Void with it, or any fast mon with Hypnosis, Blizzard, Focus Blast, Stone Edge, the list goes on

          Anonymous

nta, I'm not a conpgay but reducing evasion isn't the same as increasing accuracy, right? You can't reduce evasion unless the opponent has increased it. You'd have to boost accuracy to hit those moves more reliably.

            Anonymous

you can reduce Evasion since Gen2 (Sweet Scent), and this ability works like Intimidate but reduces Evasion instead.

Evasion and Accuracry both affect the Accuracy of the moves and can actually stack. On theory, Accuracy boosting your team would be better as the opposing Pokémon can just switch out to cleanse the Evasion drop, however, forcing switches makes them more vulnerable to Hazards, as well as you're also more prone into switching and setting up comes at the risk of being more predictable due to your tendency to keep it on the field to keep your boosts

if the ability would rather drop the opponents' Accuracy, it would be worse than evasion, as most moves used on competitive have 100% Accuracy, it would only be good against moves below 90% Acc like Stone Edge or Thunder Wave.

There didn't seem to be any major choppiness in the footage that was blatant in the pre-launch ones.

They did say they working on quality patches last year, but then we only got one for the most egregious errors - I've suspected for a while that the DLC update will come bundled with various quality fixes in the update.

        Anonymous

Yeah that's what I noticed myself. Although It could be because the area is smaller so the game doesn't need to load as big an area as the ones in the main game.

Believe me, I know. I'm going in expecting it to run about as smooth as mainland Paldea does.

        If it's better, then brilliant.

Gen 9 was the first time quality control slipped so bad, Game Freak had to publicly acknowledge it. I don't believe they took it lightly or would gloss over trying to fix things.

I know it's easy to hate on GF because this is /vp/ but they historically have a very strong track record with bug-lite and highly polished games. The fact that the wild area tree got so hyperfocused on when the rest of SWSH looked pretty good says it all.

Gen 9 however was a huge mishap that I believe stemmed entirely from inexperienced devs overreaching what they were capable of. IMO Pokémon should stay semi-open like SWSH and Legends, a mix of routes and various open areas. They had the sweet spot but fans expectations wanted them to push it further.

A fully open world that is actually still engaging to adventure through and appropriately tailored to your own level scaling and team building on a nintendo console under a studio that effectively exclusively makes oldschool handheld RPG's for kids? That was a pipe dream, and GF struggled clearly to make it halfway functional.

I do genuinely believe that Gen 9's launch embarrassed Game Freak, and that they are trying to fix it best they can for the DLC (hence why DLC 1 is in Fall and not Summer like SWSH's DLC.) - and I believe they're gonna scale back for a tighter experience in their games going forward, I don't believe Gen 10 will be fully open.

But we'll get what we get, I'll try enjoy it and judge it fairly.

          >the rest of SWSH looked pretty good

            Anonymous

            Yeah. Tired of pretending otherwise.

SWSH is the best looking Pokémon game on the switch. Feel free to cherrypick a couple of wild area screenshots of you like, but you know it is true.

The trainer models, the stadiums and battle enviornments, camera work, the routes (I mean ffs the last Pokémon games were Sun/Moon on 240p screens.)

SWSH makes Gen 9 look like dogshit, and I know that isn't saying much, but SWSH genuinely do look like completely presentable and good looking Pokémon games outside of the Wild Area in it's gloomier weather and lighting conditions. And by The Crown Tundra you could already see they were getting somewhere with making those open areas look pretty decent too.

Especially so when you consider it was the first ever new Pokémon game, done on an actual console, by the actual main GF dev team.

LGPE were the best looking pokemon games ever. But besides them yeah I think SS got a lot of hate they didn't deserve.

Frick no, everything in SWSH looks like it's made of plastic. SV's visuals might be incompetently made, but SWSH is unsalvageably bad, it's a rotten graphical style from the get-go.

I do wanna know what’s the thought process behind the game dev lead’s when making these games. It seems like Legend’s level design and catching mechanics (and to a lesser degree a more involved dex) plus traditional Pokemon battling and trainer density would be an easy lay up victory. I know the games likely had parallel development, but SV felt like a downgrade in a ways that it really shouldn’t have from the non-standard spin off.

            Anonymous

Yeah the parallel development fricked Gen 9 I think.

It's not exactly uncommon to hear people say they should stop releasing games annually - But I've always been okay with it because it's obvious they have pretty significantly staffed teams working on the games, and more cooks isn't always a good thing.

Having multiple teams working on the games is how we got stuff like HG/SS, B2W2, and Legends Arceus. All games that would never have seen the light of day if the staff were all forced to be working on GF's next bigger project.

But Gen 9 trying to go fully open while not being able to benefit from what the other staff were doing on Legends was an incomprehensible mistake and it's clear that at this point, they SHOULD have dropped the alternating teams and moved all the Legends staff onto SV.

I don't know how long each team got to make their games, I believe the average is 2-3 years, but it felt to me like the Legends team had the benefit of building cleverly on what SWSH had as a foundation to improve the formula in small but very impactful ways that made Legends feel very distinct and fun to play.

The Gen 9 team however were likely thrust into trying to make a fully open world game before BASE Sword and Shield had even launched. They didn't have the benefit of what the Legends guys were doing, or even the gradual improvement benefitted from the DLCs.

The parallel development was good in theory because it means we can get more varied game variety at a frequent rate. And I think it was working as intended until Gen 9. GF should just merge all their teams and try do one game every three years instead, with a DLC expansion annually or something to try keep the annual formula going.

      Anonymous

I imagine the DLC will take place on smaller, separate environments that in theory they weren’t rushed to make like the main game. Kind of like how Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra were just objectively better versions of the Wild Area these will just be better environments than the main game.
