Well that's moronic. I don't have a Steam Deck and my computer is always attached to the internet and I'll still b***h because I can see this being a useless corpse in my Steam library when they decide to shut the servers down for a game they don't care about and isn't making a profit.
Just replayed HL2 and all the episodes recently. Bought the games 18 years ago. There's just no way this game will continue working in 10 years let alone almost 20.

the only belated steam release i've seen get negative reviews is scott pilgrim, and that's only because it's a genuinely shitty PC port on top of the DRM to the point many casual players couldn't ignore it

if you pirate it (steam version was cracked immediately) it works offline

Activision cancelled the 3 + 4 remake and shoved Vicarious Visions into the COD mines for eternity. Just know that by buying the Steam version of 1 + 2, the only thing you're helping to fund and support is the next operator skin in MW. Just pirate it instead
