I am. I don't care how israeliteed up the game is, I enjoy the basic mechanics of skate. There's really nothing they could do to ruin it for me

Nah I don't think so. I have no hype for it but the skate series has a WEIRDLY dedicated fanbase and ontop of that a skateboarding game doesn't cost that much in terms of development. It will probably have shit player numbers and twitch views like you zoomers obsess over but I'd say it will make the company a quick buck or so.

This. Low cost project for a niche but hungry fanbase. It's not gonna top the player charts but it's gonna make a serviceable bit of change for EA (least I think EA own the skate rights?) Problem with vee is everyone here think every single game costs 500 million to make and and needs to sell at least 6 million to even break even. As someone who's been in this god awful industry for 20 years you couldn't be further from the truth.

There’s a skate videogame franchise called “Skate”?
That’s like naming a fighting game “Fighting” or a shooter game “Shooter”.
In fact that’s illegal in many countries. You’re not allowed to open a bakery called “Bakery”, a shoe store called “Shoe Store”, etc.

      >there's a skate video game called skate?
Are you 12? Or did you just start playing vidya a week ago? Not even a fan of skate but when these games launched it was impossible to go through any form of social media without a injury compilation video of one of the games popping up. Hell I seen one pop up on youtube for the first game a week or two ago, submitted a 6 months ago and had 300k views.

It's free to play live service shit. They'll sell some skins but I can't imagine most of the playerbase staying around very long

I've been doing that for a decade now, that's why I'm looking forward to 4. Skate 3 in particular is my "dick around aimlessly for 15 minutes" comfort game

the only way they can generate hype for a skateboarding game is to announce a THUG remake. Anything short of that will be met with yawns and indifference.

im in the closed play test at the minute, it's really bad, feels like THPS

      Same.

Currently in the play test for PC and phone. It's in a very rough state, especially the phone version which turns my phone into a players space heater. The core gameplay is extremely buggy and the tricks don't even work well. It's got another 2 years of dev time at least.

I also don't think it's skate 4 and the devs know that. That's why it's just going to be called "skate". It's a spin off game as far as I'm concerned. It'll be decent as something to pick up for 30 min here and there, do some challenges, but I doubt it'll connect with what the OG trilogy fanboys want. It has no soul at the moment. Also the art style is extremely terrible.

I will say, seeing a bunch of other around in the world is really neat and I hope they add proximity voice chat.

It'll probably be a success from a few skate fanboy whales, but it's definitely going to fizzle out a few months post-release.

wtf took them so long? I don't think people are even interested anymore in a skate 4. The audiences that wished for skate 4 no longer care and are full-grown adults with better things to do and play

It's not like I regret buying it because I got hundreds of hours out of it that I enjoyed.
But didn't expect it to fizzle out like this.

Supposedly this year is going to be a big year for them.
Hard to believe them though with how many times they've fallen through previously. But yeah like you said still manages to be one my favorite games.
Also why is ribsman a Black person now?

They're too busy milking their unfinished game with terrible DLC to do that.

Session is the biggest disappointment game of all time for me. I'm so tired of these random one off DLC maps that are randomly priced. I hate when games get so fragmented and have shitty ambiguous DLC packs all being a different price, different assortment of features, different amount of stuff.

      Session: Skate Sim Brandalised® Pack
      >$4.99
      >4 shirts, 4 sweatshirts, 8 decks

      Session: Skate Sim Supporter Pack
      >$14.99
      >Péitruss map, Hangar map
      >Prisoner outfit, grip tapes

Session: Skate Sim Waterpark & Chris Cole
      >$12.99
      >Waterpark map
      >Chris Cole
      >7 missions, 5 decks, 6 dropper items

      Session: Skate Sim Abandoned Mall
      >$7.99
      >Abandoned Mall map
      >38 dropper items

Session: Skate Sim - Year 1 Pack
      >$29.99
      >Supporter Pack DLC, Brandalised DLC, Waterpark & Chris Cole DLC, Abandoned Mall DLC
This isn't a steam bundle. It's a seperate DLC. They will let you buy this even if you purchased the separate items already. Also the random hyphen looks stupid.

      Session: Skate Sim Schoolyard
      >$7.99
      >Schoolyard map
      >6 dropper items

How confusing is that for a new player? It's obvious they're only trying to milk existing players as much as possible because they've exhausted an audience for this game. They aren't trying to get any new players on board. Just give people the dropper items for free and make a couple $5 DLC maps. Why are random dropper items locked behind random DLCs? Also I hate teleporting around and how fragmented the world is. I was really hoping this game would be 1 big map that connected in a way that made sense.

It's also really suspicious that they can't find an animator. What's going on internally that the only time in the last 2 years they finally snagged an animator, he left after like a month?

    >start with long cutscene you can't skip
    >see dorky white kids with helmets skating around until a dread head rasta black effortlessly rides in with exaggerated swagger
    >everyone stops and turns to look and admire this godlike figure
    >cue some feel good diversity interactions to shitty mellow r&b
    >press a button remember you can't skip

The game is going to be poorly received but will still bring in revenue from microtransactions with cosmetics and skate parts.
That's all that matters to EA.

At the end of the day, skateboarding games are all about repping your favorite brands. Been that way since Top Skater.
Being real for a minute, skaters aren't the smartest bunch. They will spend top dollar on MTX in Skate 4 if there are rare SB Dunks or Supreme collabs that can be equipped on their character.

Anyone with half a brain knows they can mod Skater XL and Session to include these items.
I downloaded all the golden era shoe mods in XL. It's always been a dream of mine to skate in shoes I couldn't afford as a kid, like the Muska CM901's.

Maybe zoomer skaters who only ride Nike or Adidas. But the old heads have fought to keep corporate simping and mindless consumerism out of skateboarding for quite some time.
Too bad it all failed since corporate giants swept in and supported skate shops while the core companies sold out to wholesale retailers.

I won't pay full price for it, but if it drops to under £20 and is on PC and isn't riddled with microtransaction and online f2p esque mechanics I'll buy it I used to skate myself loved Skate and Skate 2 on ps3 but since my PS died I've not been able to play it so would jump to be able to play on pc.
