If the skating gameplay is as solid as it looks, very admirable of him to add all the surrealism on top rather than just make it another straight ahead session/XL competitor.
the thing that set it apart from skaterxl and session is that you can do very, transition skating, handplants, hippy jumps, dark slides, cavemans, all sorts of advanced shit that you cant in other game. not that you can do a cool mctwist on flat ground. that already exists in Tony Hawk and I would appreciate if it stayed there and morons like you fricked off and kept your mouth shit so they dont hear you and frick everything up

Session is gearing up for their jump out of early access.
as it stands now, it's like 75% of the way from feeling like a real game. The physics are there for the most part, but there's still no transition physics (so mini ramps or vert stuff in general is off the table, hopefully it comes with release). Grinds still feel clunky, as i find even with dialing in the grind physics i'm still sliding off of rails while at least visually locked into the grind.
Maps are also a bit concerning, there are quite a few newer ones added in the last release but the Jerome Banks map is incredibly small (it's literally just the stair set and a street) and FDR park is virtually unskateable without transition physics since the entire park is just huge walls, bowls, and banks.
As for the other maps, they're acceptable but since i'm about 150 hours into it at this point i've skated every corner of them, and without things like transition to make the experience refreshing, they could stand to either expand them further or bring us something new (which they've teased being a thing that comes with release)
Overall it's worth it for the price now (currently on sale for $20, usually $25). Presumably the price is going to increase at release, and unlike SkaterXL it's still getting active development and updates (and not just snatching popular community maps to upload to consoles)
I have really mixed feelings about Session. The controls feel more awkward at first but are more consistent than in skate, and once you get into the groove it's fun. It's also got some cool tricks and stuff you can't do in other games like caspers. That being said, the game just kinda feels not great to play. It's hard to put it into words but if you play Skate and Session one after the other you'll get what I mean, just riding around and doing tricks is so much smoother in Skate (and Skater XL for that matter) it's not even funny. At this point I've given up hope on them improving it because it's been in development for like half a decade and they still can't really get it right.

All I can say about the playtests is they upped the frick the NDA watermarks since the last leak. Short of scaling the resolution down, adding compression, and then AI upscaling it back, I'm not sure how you can safely show off shit.

Skate 2 and 3 are the only good games
Just play 2 then. Skate 2 is perfect while 3 is just bloated. It's one of those series in which you shouldn't care about anything else other than the mechanics
Skate 2 was the one I put the most hours in, but it also had the absolutely most fricking comfy multiplayer modes in it. I would just chill for hours doing random spots with others and helping people with the multiplayer activities.
Skate 1 has the best objectives but the worst controls

I am up for more maneuverability off-board if it means getting up to higher places without having to glitch my way up there or carefully stack a ton of props in the build mode.
Skate 3 pretty much had everything covered board-wise, but it didn't change much to the offboard content that Skate 2 tried unfricking with updates.
