This is the thing. Sims modders have been charging for awhile but there's always just sites that host all that shit for free. It's a non-issue until mods with DRM take off. That's the real spooky shit.

        Anonymous

the trick will be making a mod that anybody will actually tolerate the DRM for which isn't really likely to happen. doesn't matter how good the mod is, the moment there's some kind of verification process for it nobody wants to put up with it and you're doomed to "this mod has DRM?" being its only word of mouth instead of joining the reincarnation cycle of endlessly being torrented and passed along in brazilian modpacks and pirated game distributions until the end of time

It'll definitely happen and soon. People are moronic cattle with zero standards. They exist solely to buy and pay taxes. They dismiss every argument as to why you shouldn't buy something as "poorgay".

Meh, it doesn't stop people from making alternatives. Community efforts are always born from people getting fed up with bullshit like this. If it's not the company being anti consumer, it's some greedy modder who prioritizes profits over their reputation.

if people can crack the drm on a multibillion dollar corp's AAA game, they can crack some random dude's shitty mod drm.

                >Now try and fight me on that without angering the fans of every ES prior to skyrim.
Alright, which game out of the modern trilogy got rereleased 15 fricking times?
Which game got intergraded paid mods?
                Which game got console mods?
Which game had Bethesda actively working with mod authors halfway through its lifespan?
Which game is still getting official bugfixes despite being significantly older than Morrowind when it originally came out?
Oopsy, last one is a hint, teehee 🙂

Bethesda put boatloads more effort into maintaining Skyrim than any other one of their releases, albeit in the most predatory way possible, but saying it was ignored is literally the most moronic fricking dumbshit statement I've ever seen on this site.

i still don't care. i've paid for oblivion mods and i don't mind paying for future mods, if the quality justifies the price tag. what actually concerns me about modern gaming is that all game releases are dogshit.

you have indies funding their game via early access. they go into early access when they have nothing but 2 maps, 5 characters and 1 gun and hope that enough people support them that they can live off the money for the next 5+ years while they are working on the game.

other side of the coin is that AAA publishers are not that much different, only on a bigger scale. they announce a game today, release it in 5 years and update it with content and patches for another 2-3 years. which means that if you're the kind of person that loves to play the best version of a game all the way through once you have to wait years until you can actually play it.

in my opinion a game should be complete on release and get 1-2 patches to fix game breaking issues and a game should only ever enter early access when it's basically done but needs another year of polish. not a day more.

We all saw this coming back when valve and bethesda tried to introduce paid mods to Steam. Not going to tell you to vote with your wallet because we already know dumbasses wills slurp this shit up like spaghetti and this will become the new normal. It won't happen quickly but Bethesda will realize too late that they are cooking their golden goose to eat good for a night when they could have ate good for years off the eggs (mods). It's gonna fail just like the last time they tried it
The venn diagram of people who mod their games and the people who are willing to pay for mods is basically two separate circles.
So when the mod creators (who 90% of the time need constant tonguebaths to keep their ego lubricated) stop getting downloads and are forced to confront the prospect of their own irrelevence, they'll pack all their shit in and go back to providing their product in exchange for pats on the back and the occasional handy.

Supposedly Bethesda contacted the SKSE devs ahead of time about it, so probably just a few days to wait if anything.

There's a way to get around SKSE refusing to launch because of the version mismatch, but it can be really unstable supposedly. I did it for Starfield and nothing bad happened though. Can't remember what it was though lol. Some config change.

Bethesda literally greenlited AI generated voice mods under CK

      >Stability improvements.
      >New “Show Edited Forms Only” checkbox in the Object Window.
      >Data Menu now has “Modified Date” Column.
      >Plug-ins and Masterfiles can now be sorted by clicking any of the category names in the Data menu.
      >Titlebar now shows if your plug-in is ESL compliant based on last save.
      >Landscape borders now toggle between, visible, visible over all geometry, and off.
      >RoboVoice is now included, allowing you to easily add temp voice lines.
      >LipFuzer is now included, so you can generate game ready FUZ files.
      >LipGenerator has been updated to 64-bit.
      >Users can now browse to select existing voice files in file explorer straight from the Edit Response Window.
      >Creation Kit now warns if your plug-in is flagged as “Read Only”.
      >New Papyrus Functions
      >Function SetContainerAllowStolenItems(bool setAllowStolenItems) native
      >Sets whether to allow stolen items to appear in the menu (for Containers only).
      >int Function GetAllItemsCount() native
      >Gets the number of items in a container/inventory.
      >bool Function IsContainerEmpty() native
      >Returns if the container/inventory is empty.
      >Function RemoveAllStolenItems(ObjectReference akTransferTo = None) native
      >Removes all stolen items, transferring it to the other object if passed.

It's a pretty safe assumption that people still playing Skyrim 10+ years later picked up the DLC at some point in time, especially when that shit went on sale for like 10 bucks multiple, multiple times. Mod makers aren't going to actively develop for the most outdated version of the game when nobody still plays on it.

Creation Kit got an overhaul with this update and they changed how Creation Club works a bit. Basically you can publish your mods as "Creations" with the new in-game platform (a bootleg Steam Workshop) and, if you are a Verified Creator™ (anyone can apply, not just people hand-picked by Todd), you can put a price tag on them.

They also optimized the damn papyrus code more than AE already had, so there is a ton of shit that they tested here to push into Fo4.

Todd is just using Skyrim to test this new "Verified Creator" nonsense and apply it to Starfield next year.
He wants Creation [Not-]Club to be the main modding platform for his games (instead of Nexus).

            Anonymous

Why doesn't he just buy nexus? Surely Bethesda has enough money to do so no?

              Anonymous

Because Todd wants his own Nexus (both free and paid mods) directly inside Skyrim/Starfield/etc (so consolegays can access it too). There is no point in buying Nexus since they only have a website and a PC-only mod manager.

                Anonymous

In fact, he is doing this because Nexus administration became unhinged and pro censorship hard.

the skyrim modding community is clearly capable of making decent armors. That they don't on a particular occasion only speaks to the variance of quality in the community, not the lack of it altogether

See, thaty's why you are moronic and why free mods suck. They just port shit over from other games without even asking if they fit the setting. Nords ARE NOT vikings or Norse. They are their own unique fantasy culture. The creation club armor gives them a unique armor set that showcases this. The free mod you posted is just generic viking shit that with a ridiculous specular map that doesn't match the art style of the game at all. The creation club content blends seamlessly into the game as though it was always there. Your mod would stick out like a sore thumb.

Vanilla skyrim has no art direction. It's a mess of incongruent assets all smashed together with a shit filter slapped on top. I welcome people actually attempting to impose some coherent sense of style onto this game.

              Better than Morrowind.

That's where the "Nords aren't literally just the norse" bit the other anon talked about comes in. Nords wear horned helmets, they put pelt everywhere on their armor, has been the case since Morrowind. And it's fine, because y'know, they're not just normal sailors/pirates/traders from Scandinavia, they're a bunch of shamanistic barbarians who have a magical resistance to cold, cover themselves in woad warpaint in battle, and can shout down city gates.

                >Vanilla skyrim has no art direction. It's a mess of incongruent assets all smashed together
Its style is essentially a high(ish) fantasy version of old Conan the Barbarian looks which shows in a lot of the armors especially.

                Anonymous

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a lot of the conan aesthetic come from heavily stylizing bronze age weapons and armor? The conan aesthetic seems to simultaneously be grounded but still look flashy and cool. Skyrim armors achieve neither. It's totally at odds with itself and, I think more importantly, the world. The actual world of skyrim, barring certain quest locations, is pretty low fantasy and unstylized. Bethesds was going for a straightforward "gritty medieval" look. So when you throw in the overwrought glass armor into that, it just becomes a visual mess.

I really wish that wouldn't have been the case. The best thing about ES was always the alienness it could have. Even something like a generic viking setting could have been enhanced a bit.

Are the mods available on ps4 good? I used to play Skyrim on my old laptop but I could never use any of the ultra high graphics mods, so it would be nice playing it on my stronger ps4 pro if I can make the game look amazing.

Playstation is the worst platform to play with mods on because sony is schizo and doesn't allow script extended mods for whatever reason despite xbox doing it. So any real combat changing mods with new animations and the like are basically out of the question, only damage value changes and whatnot.

Yall just love gatekeeping on this board. If you have a whopping, staggering fifteen whole dollars to spend on something you'll use for the entire game and brings you hours of happiness, why the frick is that such a bad thing? You get something extra immediately, and the devs get more money to support the game. You're not forced to buy it, there's literally hundreds in game for free. If you want a special one for $15, who cares? That's a single footlong from subway nowadays. That's one pizza. For something you might use for hundreds of hours. How cheap are you? You guys are the same ones that whine that games cost $60-70 for something you'll be able to play for dozens if not hundreds of hours.

Yes, the real money mount is functionally no different from the hundreds of free ones, but it cost $15 once and you have it forever. Why do yall get so much joy out of calling everyone else idiots for spending their money on things they like?

They're not stupid, you're just a whiny gatekeeper acting like they're not real gamers because they spent $15 on something extra once. Maybe it's just that they make enough money that $15 isn't shit to them? Maybe you're just broke or stingy?. I feel like the main people who complain about this shit are broke teenagers or early 20s people who don't have any excess money so they think $15 is some massive sum of money.

Guess what guys? most people don't actually hate microtransactions or they wouldn't exist. You're not a 180 iq genius because you don't want to spend money on a game once you bought it. You're just entitled, broke, stingy, or all of the above.

The voice acting is the worst part. You'd think that given Bethesda's resources they could work with the official voice actors to make sure that creations would be up to snuff. At least modders can use elevenlabs without legal concerns now, and we've had mods with decent voice acting in the past like Enderal and Inigo too.

    >These are supposed to be THE BEST of the best mods to convince you paid mods are a good idea
I'm even fine with (the concept of) paying for mods but only if I'm paying the dev directly and the mod is actually fricking worth it.
No fricking way I'm going to pay Beteshda tax, not to mention there hasn't been a single mod ever yet that's actually worth the price.

You'd think Beteshda would finally fricking try to at least get some good mods in to show there's any merit to paid mods, except time and time again they put in shit that's straight up half assed garbage.

Why even pirate them? If they're anything like the trash that came with the anniversary edition, they're so low effort they aren't even worth the storage on your device.

This update shouldn't affect the Special Edition right? I have a long playthrough in progress and I don't want anything to get fricked.
I'm not buying the Anniversary Edition and never will, frick paid mods.

      >This update shouldn't affect the Special Edition right?
It effects both. AE is just a package deal on steam that includes skyrim special edition plus a bunch of paid mods.

AE is just part of SE on steam. I feel like they would have made people a lot happier if they had just made it a separate thing like they did with SE when it first came out.

    >look up "how to prevent steam from updating a game"
    >there have been a group of people rabidly defending steam not letting you opt out of updates on the steam forums for over a decade now and they post in literally every forum thread on the topic
I sincerely doubt this is just some kind of long term bait, this has to be a mental illness

As long as they don't mess with my e-girl sex mods (which they want nothing to do with), I couldn't give a shit what they do. If you pay $15 for a digital horse then you're a fricking idiot and deserve to have your money taken

I have been warning for years that the only reason any games that have continued support (like CSGO) or newly released games have any modding support at all is solely because they want to monetized mods/community content. If they fail to do so they will actually stop support for them entirely. Mods provide free content that is in competition to their paid DLC and new game releases. They view players creating and sharing content among each other for free as lost money.

This, I support Paid Mods and tons of DLC and shit
      >morons buy it
      >I get it for free
Of course, this assumes I end up with net more than I would if they had just released a content full game from the get-go

Eh, aside from the dwemer autism mod (since Trainwiz is the only one who cares enough about those ded nerds to make these kind of mods) and maybe that "LOTD Lite" mod (since LOTD itself is a hot mess), you are better off downloading the usual free/patreonbux alternatives.

You WILL pay $1 for every mod.
Bethesda WILL get 30% of every transaction.
        NO REFUNDS.

        >You WILL pay $1
Nah, Todd wants you to $6 for one (01) [singular] weapon reskin.
And +$1000 is nothing compared to what corporations are planning to do in the future.

And Trainwiz is one of the few making big mods about them. At best you will get equipment sets from the average dwemer enthusiast (or some joke mod like lightsabers, motorcycles and pet armor).

How easy is it going to be to pirate these paid mods? are they just .esm files you can download and activate in MO2 like the CC shit?

      Anonymous

      >you can download and activate in MO2 like the CC shit?
I don't think the CK update changed anything relevant about the files themselves, so yeah. You just need to find someone willing to buy (or scam Bethesda by cancelling the payment later) and share it as usual.

It's not like we are losing anything of worth to paywalls, but I'm worried that this could frick up Starfield's modding scene as that game needs mods badly. That and as a VR cuck I hope that incompatibilities don't get worse due to Todd not updating Skyrim/Fallout 4 VR since 2018.

Starfields modding scene is already gimped due to severe back end limitations that Bethesda probably won't fix. It's joever
