He got out of Dangen after a lot of legal bullshit, but then the music guy got mad and sued him or something? I don't know much about the details, I got tired of following the drama after what happened to Fight Knight dev. Remember to not befriend girl schizos, Ganker, they will ruin your life.

IIRC after some legal back 'n forth they got the rights from Dangen, however in the process the artist and musician seemed to have gotten fed up with the programmer's behavior and making decisions behind their back, that they went "we don't want to associate with you or have anything to do with this anymore, you're free to do whatever with Devil Engine as long as you replace the art and music"
however since nobody really signed any contracts they didn't have any legal rights for the art or music, so after some years of fruitless legal disputes the programmer went ahead and announced a new edition of the game with the new DLC et al with the old art and music anyways
last I heard this soured the composer so much he quit making music for vidya altogether and joined the military instead

Golden Axe is a billed by its creators as a beat em up, and every character uses weapons. Diablo is a hack and slash and ARPG, and you can play barehanded in that game. Slave ZX is billed as both. I tried the demo, it's another one of those indie 2D CUHRAZYEE games where it's piss easy to control the screen and juggle every enemy on screen in a single pile because there's less space to control compared to a 3D hack 'n slash
there was a boss but it basically felt like fighting a fighting game CPU, which isn't fricking fun in a singleplayer game since it comes down to learning all the hidden arbitrary hard counters and combo escapes and super armor frames on their moves, and I can't imagine other bosses playing differently besides going Dark Souls mode where it's like fighting Max in Streets of Rage 4 (poking away at a boss with super armor out of the ass)
The sprites not casting shadows on to the ground makes them really look out of place and the sprites are too clean to match the background which further alienates them.
The sprites themselves need more shadows and dirtying up, I understand it is hard for animation but when the game elements are clashing it hurts the enjoy-ability of the game(feels like a porn game). The 3D modeled bosses look perfect for the game, perhaps they should have went with models instead.
I like the Artstyle, luv' me meaty sci-fi with faceless men.
