I pirated it and uninstalled it after getting to the end three or four times - but I was surprised watching other playthroughs that there were still options I'd missed. This game is nice, but I could really use a tag for options you've taken before on a new game.
I suppose save scumming is one best way to get routes. It's kinda fun to mess about with the dialogues and figure out that Adversary has a softer side. Hope they can add more to her route than just straight to Fury

You might be able to fiddle with the settings to use the trackpad instead of the button map as default, but I didn't try that.
Runs fine, but you have to configure right trackpad for mouse movement. Arrows key and A as Enter for optimal.

Devs did an official poll of chapter 2 princesses, and Witch is indeed first and Prisoner second. I think third was Spectre: not sure where Adversary came.
Threadwise, Adversary and Spectre were the most popular around release, with Witch and Prisoner usurping them as time went on.

Prisoner is one of the more solitary/independent vessels. She has a plan to get out of the cabin before you've even met her and will enact it without ever consulting you (moving too close to her will cause her to wrestle the knife off you and proceed to hr beheading before you've shared more than two words in common), purely expecting you to carry on as you have before and free her. She has this odd mix of contrasts where she's completely solitary in determining her plans and actions, but said plans and actions are entirely dependent upon you and your choices; she doesn't trust you/whatever force is controlling you enough to actually explain her plans, but she trusts that you will figure it out anyway.
In mirrored contrast, Damsel is the most dependent vessel despite being the most loosely bound (her hand slips right out of the chain: the only thing keeping her from doing a Witch and freeing herself was her own lack of will). She has no plan or any real goals and falls apart if questioned about that: even leaving the cabin, the common urge across every vessel, is something you have to suggest to her. Her trust for you is complete and total: killing her with the pristine blade has her passively accepting it as the right thing to do. In contrast to Prisoner, Damsel has near-complete freedom to do and act in any way she chooses, but has no plans or goals of her own to pursue or enact; she has total trust and faith in you and is forthrightly honest about everything (unlike Prisoner, Damsel will not hold back that you've met before), but has nothing of importance to actually tell.
Still don't really get how leaving Prisoner behind nets you a Grey.
Glad they're changing that in The Pristine Cut.

I was gonna include the Grey but ran out of space: so, Grey is a White Lady ghost who are generally themed around loss or betrayal by a loved one. There's the standard betrayal for both Greys where you straight up gank her, so leaving Prisoner's head behind is a betrayal of a different kind: a betrayal of trust. Speculation as follows: Prisoner views you as being a deep thinker and questioning sort from your actions in chapter one (hence why you get the Voice of the Skeptic), and she plans accordingly for it in chapter two. You deviating from that either means she was wrong (and Shifty/the vessels in general never believe they can be wrong) or that you were deliberately betraying her: that she doesn't see you fighting the Narrator/whatever was controlling you in chapter one to do that would just reinforce it.
Agree it's a bit holey, though. Prisoner decapitation feels like the spot most likely to get branched out, though, so maybe Black Tabby will clear it up.

I think Fury works conceptionally but clearly fails on execution. From direct word of god, it's a fail state where you force the Princess to focus on her flesh/body instead of the by-your-bootstraps divinity process Adversary and Tower were going through, and I don't think that comes across at all. I expect it to get a fair amount of overhaul since it's the route most people have complained about not getting: chapter fours seem out there, though, but I wouldn't be surprised if we're got a split version like with the two Greys. Wouldn't be surprised if we didn't, either, but it seems within the realm of possibility.
I think Fury has potential as well. But it really just suffers from not having any choices, while also not being an obvious direct continuation of the previous Princess like Apotheosis is.

Her solution to her problem (you) is to deal with it using overwhelming violence, breaking or ignoring every rule, and in the process, accidentally getting the answer right.
How does she get out of the shackle? She discards the part of her that couldn't slip out. How does she escape from the cabin? She turns it inside-out, via it's representative. The lack of interaction means it sucks as a conclusion, but in retrospect, everything of importance was established.

First ever playthrough I did was the demo, and I immediately killed the Princess. Society and fairy tails taught me not to trust overly nice women. I did however straight up tell her that I was here to kill her, because backstabbing isn't my style. But once I found out that the Narrator was lying to me, I did everything I could to save her, and was sad when I couldn't.

DDLC was the last big western VN, with the next biggest one after that being Katawa Shoujo some five years earlier. It's not a particularly star-filled genre, so it's naturally going to draw comparisons to the big ones that came before it regardless of how valid that comparison is.
Like, I've seen it getting compared to Stanley Parable a lot and I'd say it only has a little bit more in common with that than DDLC.
