Extensions to Den, Apotheosis and Fury, + Chapter 3s for Damsel, Prisoner and Spectre. Also looks like they've added stuff to the ending and there's probably stuff added to the rest of the routes given they also removed some stuff before. Fully expect there to be a gallery, too, since that's something they've mentioned wanting to add.

Except this is set in a medieval fantasy and instead of grids, the map gameplay is done through RTwP.
It's pretty much an expanded upon, spiritual successor to Ogre Battle.
But this game has a huge world map with different continents and kingdoms. And offers a lot of freedom in what parts to conquer and in what order. Which heavily impacts your army, treasures, and recruitable allies.
The game has a massive demo that is available on switch and Playstation.

PROS >It’s fricking huge. Even in its unfinished state there’s more text than StP and it will only get bigger. >Traits system adds an interesting RPG-ish aspect to the game, and sometimes they act like proto-voices. Also adds more replay value since the game can go very differently depending on your build. If you want it to be more like StP take Mystical and Talk to Animals for the true schizo experience. people make too big of a deal about the tumblr art, it's really not that bad and all the backgrounds and environments are stellar. it gets better as it goes along, too, there's some really excellent schizo shit in part 3. same artist as STP and you'll see more similarities the deeper you get.

Almost certainly a bug from him giving the construct the ability to switch to different realities/reset it things were fricked up beyond repair. Your and her consciousness weren't supposed to be preserved between switches, and it's that they are which leads to her ultimately escaping.
The Narrator behaves oddly during Nightmare's route if you actually manage to slay her. There's four routes in which you actually manage to slay the Princess without dying yourself or having Shifty intervene: Spectre, Damsel, Prisoner and Nightmare (Adversary doesn't count since she regens: I'm talking dead for the rest of the chapter). For the first three, the Narrator has a standard pattern of behaviour: he leads the MC out of the cabin into the Long Quiet and then attempts to lull them into a catatonic state. The odd one out here is Nightmare: after slaying her, you discover that you can't actually leave the cabin since the stairs are gone/you're falling in the void, and the Narrator just... gives up? He doesn't attempt to lull you into a waking sleep or abuse the construct to manifest you a way out or encourage you to try to escape. He doesn't really try to make you do anything and doesn't seem particularly bothered when you die (which does, tbh, match with other routes where you manage to kill the princess before succumbing to your wounds).
Things I think you can safely infer from this:
1) The Narrator needs the MC to be out of the basement in order for the catatonic part of the Good Ending to work, or maybe he just needs them to see that the outside world is gone first. There's no particular reason he wouldn't attempt it when you're falling through the void or alone in the basement otherwise.
2) The Narrator's primary goal is slaying the Princess and everything else is secondary to the point of non-importance. This seems like a "no shit" conclusion, but the main implication is that the exact path in the Good Ending isn't necessary. He doesn't need the MC to be catatonic in order to win; he just needs the Princess to be dead. Having the MC be in that state is like an optional bonus condition: he'll pursue it if he's able to and it's not too much trouble, but won't bother otherwise.
Played through it again to check and you're right: Smitten manifests the blade back into your hand and sudokus before the Narrator can do anything. So there a hole in that interpretation.

Thorn deserves a lovey-dovey ending too
It's a pretty good western VN about the following scenario: "You're on a path in the woods. At the end of that path is a cabin, and in the basement of that cabin is a princess. You're here to slay her." It's very good at branching out quickly from choices you make, including ones you're not aware of making, and is strongly dynamic and autistically good at keeping track of small details. Narrative is at turns funny, sad and generally schizophrenic in the best of ways. Devs have said they're fine with piracy if you can't afford it and would prefer that to you watching a stream of it, but you can get a good idea of what the VN's like within the 2 hour refund window too.
The art is already like StP, tbh: the problem isn't with the style, it's with the designs and the ethos behind them. SH aims to be more ""realistic"" and diverse and ends up being unpleasant to look at in the opinion of most anons, and that drive goes beyond just how the character's look: it's in who they are as people, how they act and react, the words they say and the views they hold etc etc.
It's also part of what I think SH's biggest flaw is: it has this air of attempted realism to it that just clashes with the horror ghost stories it's trying to tell. It somehow manages to be less believable than the most balls-to-the-walls schizophrenic parts of StP.

NTA, and I'd class SH as mid rather than bad, but here we go: the main dilemmas/moral problems are an absolute joke. End of chapter "Big Decisions" are as follows: Would you prefer an old man die or an old dog die? Would you prefer the obedient child lose her foot or the two disobedient children die in a cave-in? Would you prefer to give up years of your life to a ghost or let it keep haunting the library? Would you prefer werewolf boy keep taking his meds that keep him human or let him murderise his mother for forcing him to take his meds? I've said it before in these threads and I'll say it again: too many of these are a demented version of the trolley problem where you're weighing up having the train rustle some old fart's newspapers as it passes on one track or just crash straight into the station killing everyone on the other. I cannot take them seriously as dilemmas.

, chp 3 is exactly where I first had that problem occurring badly enough to throw me out the narrative. The setup for Oscar letting the scooby doo ghost hunt into his house makes zero sense: the whimsical aspect where he just lets it happen because "what the hell, couldn't hurt" dissipates when his daughter's fresh out of hospital with a missing foot -- he should have greater priorities; if I try to treat it as fantasy realism where he knows there's a ghost and wants to get rid of it, why the frick is he relying on these 3 randoms with zero experience to do it? If it were a japanese VN, I'd write it up to the typical moon logic that only makes sense if you've had koans drilled into your skull since birth, but this is western.
This and a number of other areas have the setting tearing itself apart trying to balance the cartoony funland with realisitic strife: you have a miner's strike and the worrying prospect that SH is one step away from being a company town, and also the Mayor is a dog.
Problem 3, the love interests. It's a VN, they're an expected part of it, and they all kinda suck tbh. I don't even think this one's beyond thread consensus because we all know Tabitha's the best damn character in there. Writing-wise, there's a problem with the believability since you're literally only meeting these people for the first time and there's, what, four days total in the VN thus far? The romantic beats didn't feel natural in the same way Thorn's path did, tbh, and that was significantly more condensed so I know Black Tabby have it in them, it just never felt like it was on display here.
Problem 4, the art and where Jane Tabby seems to be putting her focus into. The background's are fricking great more often than not: I don't consider myself an art autist, but there's a few where I stopped and had a look around at them to spot all the little details just because of how good it was. Felt like a where's wally/waldo book. And in counterpoint to that, the character sprites. Sprites in StP felt significantly more expressive and emotive than anything I saw in SH: might be unfair to compare one of the best of StP, but that shot of Den trapped in a hole was singularly more evocative than the whole of SH. Not saying I hate the effort put into the backgrounds, but given the Sprites take up significantly more of my eyeball time, I'd prefer it if they were as pretty as the backgrounds.

okay, anon you were replying to here, yeah i can mostly agree with this, but i don't think you're giving enough credit to how well-executed the 3 and 4 sequences actually are once you get past the limp obviousness of the choices and contrivance of the setup. the mayor being a dog is just (as the cops admit) essentially an admission that the scarlets have all the real power, and it works great with the talk to animals trait. oscar permitting rosalina on the ghost hunt is a little moronic, but i interpreted it as him not *really* believing in a ghost and just bringing people over to find out what was wrong, etc. Anyway having Tabitha there during that sequence while you schizo out and talk to demons was the highlight of the game for me, and honestly the developing (if sadly platonic) relationship you have with her throughout was more impactful than the various short stories of StP were, personally. (Even if the other characters are kinda weak)

A recent piece of art shows a slightly fancy staircase leading UP, with the accompanying text "If the princess lives here.." Likely from the 3rd chapter for Damsel.
Spectre is probably also getting a 3rd chapter, or at least some additions/changes, though we've seen no art regarding her. But she's on that announcement picture as well, so it'd track.

Tech. Prisoner and Damsel lack a unique chapter 3 too: the Greys were originally a single chapter that got split up after the Devs realised they wanted too distinct a route for if you got there via Damsel or Prisoner. It's possible similar logic might lead to unique Fury's for Adversary and Tower in Pristine Cut.

Sounds too much like Wilds unless you add something extra to it. Maybe make it so that if there Princess is on your head, the voices get put into the vessel? So you get a pseudo rerun of chapter 1 but with Spectre playing Hero's role and Hero and Cold playing the Princess.
Feels like a Chapter 3 for the Stranger would be a perfect opportunity to add Earthworm Kim back but I guess they wanted the Stranger to be special in not having an alternate chapter

If you’re the sort of person who enjoys mysteries, has done interactives / choose your own adventure stories, or fricked with creepypastas you’ll probably have fun with this game.
You already seem to dislike the basic premise of causality and butterfly effect in which case you might be SOL.
You also dislike the artstyle and seemingly the acting / dialogue which are other major draws.
So in short, the appeals are: >cause and effect / exploring a mystery through many options >fun dialogue and characters, enjoyable art style >lots of variations to play through, things to find, etc.
If you dislike these things there’s not some silver bullet for you to like. Better off playing something that fits you better.
I found this moment a little sad while playing, since you're ultimately leaving her behind. You can only give her the shadow of what she might have had with Adversary. I'm curious if the Apotheosis rework might go the same route: Tower was you lifting her up forever as her devotee/chief simp, but becoming a god would transcend the need for that.

It's pretty much an expanded upon, spiritual successor to Ogre Battle.
But this game has a huge world map with different continents and kingdoms. And offers a lot of freedom in what parts to conquer and in what order. Which heavily impacts your army, treasures, and recruitable allies.

Almost certainly a bug from him giving the construct the ability to switch to different realities/reset it things were fricked up beyond repair. Your and her consciousness weren't supposed to be preserved between switches, and it's that they are which leads to her ultimately escaping.

The Narrator behaves oddly during Nightmare's route if you actually manage to slay her. There's four routes in which you actually manage to slay the Princess without dying yourself or having Shifty intervene: Spectre, Damsel, Prisoner and Nightmare (Adversary doesn't count since she regens: I'm talking dead for the rest of the chapter). For the first three, the Narrator has a standard pattern of behaviour: he leads the MC out of the cabin into the Long Quiet and then attempts to lull them into a catatonic state. The odd one out here is Nightmare: after slaying her, you discover that you can't actually leave the cabin since the stairs are gone/you're falling in the void, and the Narrator just... gives up? He doesn't attempt to lull you into a waking sleep or abuse the construct to manifest you a way out or encourage you to try to escape. He doesn't really try to make you do anything and doesn't seem particularly bothered when you die (which does, tbh, match with other routes where you manage to kill the princess before succumbing to your wounds).
Things I think you can safely infer from this:
1) The Narrator needs the MC to be out of the basement in order for the catatonic part of the Good Ending to work, or maybe he just needs them to see that the outside world is gone first. There's no particular reason he wouldn't attempt it when you're falling through the void or alone in the basement otherwise.
2) The Narrator's primary goal is slaying the Princess and everything else is secondary to the point of non-importance. This seems like a "no shit" conclusion, but the main implication is that the exact path in the Good Ending isn't necessary. He doesn't need the MC to be catatonic in order to win; he just needs the Princess to be dead. Having the MC be in that state is like an optional bonus condition: he'll pursue it if he's able to and it's not too much trouble, but won't bother otherwise.

Played through it again to check and you're right: Smitten manifests the blade back into your hand and sudokus before the Narrator can do anything. So there a hole in that interpretation.

Can someone give me a rundown on this game? I know it's about killing a princess, but us it good or not?
It's a pretty good western VN about the following scenario: "You're on a path in the woods. At the end of that path is a cabin, and in the basement of that cabin is a princess. You're here to slay her." It's very good at branching out quickly from choices you make, including ones you're not aware of making, and is strongly dynamic and autistically good at keeping track of small details. Narrative is at turns funny, sad and generally schizophrenic in the best of ways. Devs have said they're fine with piracy if you can't afford it and would prefer that to you watching a stream of it, but you can get a good idea of what the VN's like within the 2 hour refund window too.

The art is already like StP, tbh: the problem isn't with the style, it's with the designs and the ethos behind them. SH aims to be more ""realistic"" and diverse and ends up being unpleasant to look at in the opinion of most anons, and that drive goes beyond just how the character's look: it's in who they are as people, how they act and react, the words they say and the views they hold etc etc.
It's also part of what I think SH's biggest flaw is: it has this air of attempted realism to it that just clashes with the horror ghost stories it's trying to tell. It somehow manages to be less believable than the most balls-to-the-walls schizophrenic parts of StP.
eh, the game gives you enough freedom that i was able to enjoy it regardless. plus i defy you to say the episode three stuff wasn't a well-executed ghost story, plus tabitha (and to a lesser extent stella and reese) are good characters and don't reek of "woke" writing like some claim. these criticisms ring a lot more true for chapters one and two.

That Slay The Princess is just the lightning-in-a-bottle polar opposite where the narrative doesn't even work unless the variants of the princess are genuinely likeable (or not) to the player for their own sake, is pretty crazy.

NTA, and I'd class SH as mid rather than bad, but here we go: the main dilemmas/moral problems are an absolute joke. End of chapter "Big Decisions" are as follows: Would you prefer an old man die or an old dog die? Would you prefer the obedient child lose her foot or the two disobedient children die in a cave-in? Would you prefer to give up years of your life to a ghost or let it keep haunting the library? Would you prefer werewolf boy keep taking his meds that keep him human or let him murderise his mother for forcing him to take his meds? I've said it before in these threads and I'll say it again: too many of these are a demented version of the trolley problem where you're weighing up having the train rustle some old fart's newspapers as it passes on one track or just crash straight into the station killing everyone on the other. I cannot take them seriously as dilemmas.

, chp 3 is exactly where I first had that problem occurring badly enough to throw me out the narrative. The setup for Oscar letting the scooby doo ghost hunt into his house makes zero sense: the whimsical aspect where he just lets it happen because "what the hell, couldn't hurt" dissipates when his daughter's fresh out of hospital with a missing foot -- he should have greater priorities; if I try to treat it as fantasy realism where he knows there's a ghost and wants to get rid of it, why the frick is he relying on these 3 randoms with zero experience to do it? If it were a japanese VN, I'd write it up to the typical moon logic that only makes sense if you've had koans drilled into your skull since birth, but this is western.
This and a number of other areas have the setting tearing itself apart trying to balance the cartoony funland with realisitic strife: you have a miner's strike and the worrying prospect that SH is one step away from being a company town, and also the Mayor is a dog.
Problem 3, the love interests. It's a VN, they're an expected part of it, and they all kinda suck tbh. I don't even think this one's beyond thread consensus because we all know Tabitha's the best damn character in there. Writing-wise, there's a problem with the believability since you're literally only meeting these people for the first time and there's, what, four days total in the VN thus far? The romantic beats didn't feel natural in the same way Thorn's path did, tbh, and that was significantly more condensed so I know Black Tabby have it in them, it just never felt like it was on display here.
Problem 4, the art and where Jane Tabby seems to be putting her focus into. The background's are fricking great more often than not: I don't consider myself an art autist, but there's a few where I stopped and had a look around at them to spot all the little details just because of how good it was. Felt like a where's wally/waldo book. And in counterpoint to that, the character sprites. Sprites in StP felt significantly more expressive and emotive than anything I saw in SH: might be unfair to compare one of the best of StP, but that shot of Den trapped in a hole was singularly more evocative than the whole of SH. Not saying I hate the effort put into the backgrounds, but given the Sprites take up significantly more of my eyeball time, I'd prefer it if they were as pretty as the backgrounds.
Less problems and more just errata: SH made me realise just how much of StP was carried by the voice acting. Not saying the writing's bad, but the voice acting lifted it up considerably. The structure of StP lends itself significantly better to showing off how variable and dynamic it is than SH's single-route style. It has the same problem as StP in that you need to complete the VN mutliple times to fully grok what's going on, except that's compounded for SH because it's not complete rn.
okay, anon you were replying to here, yeah i can mostly agree with this, but i don't think you're giving enough credit to how well-executed the 3 and 4 sequences actually are once you get past the limp obviousness of the choices and contrivance of the setup. the mayor being a dog is just (as the cops admit) essentially an admission that the scarlets have all the real power, and it works great with the talk to animals trait. oscar permitting rosalina on the ghost hunt is a little moronic, but i interpreted it as him not *really* believing in a ghost and just bringing people over to find out what was wrong, etc. Anyway having Tabitha there during that sequence while you schizo out and talk to demons was the highlight of the game for me, and honestly the developing (if sadly platonic) relationship you have with her throughout was more impactful than the various short stories of StP were, personally. (Even if the other characters are kinda weak)

I'm curious how you'd even get to a 3rd chapter of Damsel. She's so co-operative and with Smitten it's just too easy for you guys to walk out the cabin. Maybe the dialogue tree where she starts deconstructing gets expanded into a full new chapter?
25% of the base game is around 4 or 5 chapters, so counting new chapter 3s for Damsel, Prisoner, and Specter still puts us 1 short. Maybe Stranger gets a 3rd chapter? Or Razor and Stranger get a shared chapter 3 as the only unpaired routes.

They've said they've added stuff into the ending and deliberately said they weren't adding anything into Witch at one point, so the extra chapter's worth of material could just be spread across the entire VN plus ending where they felt it was needed.

From the Pristine Cut's announcement picture and what art we've seen so far, Damsel and likely Prisoner are getting unique 3rd chapters that aren't just different flavors of The Grey. A recent piece of art shows a slightly fancy staircase leading UP, with the accompanying text "If the princess lives here.." Likely from the 3rd chapter for Damsel.
Spectre is probably also getting a 3rd chapter, or at least some additions/changes, though we've seen no art regarding her. But she's on that announcement picture as well, so it'd track.

Prisoner and Damsel lack a unique chapter 3 too: the Greys were originally a single chapter that got split up after the Devs realised they wanted too distinct a route for if you got there via Damsel or Prisoner. It's possible similar logic might lead to unique Fury's for Adversary and Tower in Pristine Cut.

Sounds too much like Wilds unless you add something extra to it. Maybe make it so that if there Princess is on your head, the voices get put into the vessel? So you get a pseudo rerun of chapter 1 but with Spectre playing Hero's role and Hero and Cold playing the Princess.
Feels like a Chapter 3 for the Stranger would be a perfect opportunity to add Earthworm Kim back but I guess they wanted the Stranger to be special in not having an alternate chapter

If you’re the sort of person who enjoys mysteries, has done interactives / choose your own adventure stories, or fricked with creepypastas you’ll probably have fun with this game.
You already seem to dislike the basic premise of causality and butterfly effect in which case you might be SOL.
You also dislike the artstyle and seemingly the acting / dialogue which are other major draws.
