I hope they made a sequel because they had a bunch of new ideas they couldn't implement and not because they just wanted revenue for updating visuals, adding a few characters and some cards.
Yeah that shit is lame, I'm hoping it's just because it's easy to bolster the number of characters by just making them at least 50% the same.
These frickers better have at least 3 new characters.
I for one like the idea of playing a familiar class to get used to the new enemies/bosses/encounters/relics before making the switch to the new character.
We still don't know if the characters are 100% identical, they could have half their cards redesigned or new archetypes built into for all we know.
Too early to tell, but I'm optimistic
I had hoped they would improve the art style since the first game was incredibly ugly. From the looks of it it has been improved, but not by much. I get it's a small team but after the success of the first game surely you can hire some better artists
maybe i missed it, but from the trailer a bunch of the cards looked exactly the same as the ones from the first game??
not new card sets? come now
I hope they made a sequel because they had a bunch of new ideas they couldn't implement and not because they just wanted revenue for updating visuals, adding a few characters and some cards.
Do you want it to be different or the same? Make up your mind. And yes, Ganker is one person.
Honestly I don't know, StS is already such a great game, I imagine the path they will go is StS but with more stuff. I hope the cards are different enough and allow some new builds. Especially Silent 'cause her gameplan wasn't so varied compared to other characters and builds didn't feel that different.
idk, they've practically confirmed it's the exact same core so the only thing they can do differently is just...add more stuff. Which is kinda boring when you're doing a sequel 8 years after the launch of the first one. I guess I hope there's more game modes that change the experience enough to give more variety to builds or whatever?
I mean, that's what the Binding of Isaac did.
And it worked, so whatever lol.
I'm also going to point out this line from the Steam page.
They could do basically anything. They probably won't do much, but I think this is a case of just "wait and see."
Yeah that shit is lame, I'm hoping it's just because it's easy to bolster the number of characters by just making them at least 50% the same.
These frickers better have at least 3 new characters.
>These frickers better have at least 3 new
Considering they're already teasing 1 new one, 3 seems very viable. Doubly so when you remember the EA release is next year, not the 1.0.
>I mean, that's what the Binding of Isaac did. >And it worked, so whatever lol.
Except it sucks ass. BoI has so much bloat and to be fair to BoI, those are updates to the game and not posed as a full sequel.
It looks like it, it's the sequel of one of the most prestigious roguelites around after all
>Thoughts
Those screenshots look an awful lot like StS1, indie developers wouldn't just crank out a soulless sequel for money would they? >Hopes
StS1 remains the best deckbuilder and it's not even close so hopefully the sequel's gonna be at least as good >Fears
StS1 was a fluke and they lucked into such fine balance which might be seen in the characters they added later and the sequel is going to be trash since the first was lightning in a bottle
>StS1 was a fluke and they lucked into such fine balance which might be seen in the characters they added later and the sequel is going to be trash since the first was lightning in a bottle
I'm not saying that luck didn't play a role, but back in sts1's EA phase the devs were extremely analytical/methodical when it came to balance, making me confident they will have comparable success this time around as well regardless of how lucky they'll be in thinking about the right designs. This time around the balancing process is already familiar to them, plus they already have a much better starting idea of what exactly makes a card/relic/potion good or not. If you're interested in this aspect, they gave a talk about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rqfbvnO_H0
idk they practically confirmed it'd be a completely new experience more akin to DD then StS and so I'm sure the community will be completely receptive of it.
Honestly I have no idea what I could possibly want out of this. I played a ton of STS ever since it was very early into its EA, then played a ton with its mods, then played a ton of its clones and games inspired by it.
I have no desire to play STS as it was again, which looks to be the case, but who knows.
They're running a huge risk even making this considering the top player scene is still alive and booming. They risk the top players sticking to StS1 and not migrating to StS2. Same thing that happened to SSBB/U and Melee.
Oh BOY!
more RNG ULLSHIT THE GAME II

its mediocre compared to the first
>they make the various archetypes easier to setup or otherwise give more build control
I'm surprised they never gave even a simple 'starting deck modifier' that let you soft spec into other builds. Like starting with a cloak and dagger or something as Silent.
I may not like DD2, but I respect that DD2 isnt just DD1 with a bunch of new shit. They completely fricking failed but if youre just going to take 1 and add more shit to it, make an expansion.
>Thoughts?
Interested but I will wait and see. >Hopes?
Lots of new mechanics.

It's shit.
>This zesty skeleton has a fun gimmick
Given it revolves around a single powerful companion, it's probably going to have a lot of combo effects where you empower it and then play cards that have bonus effects if your hand did (something) via those buffs.
What would (you) want to see from new characters? Lich appears to be somewhat of a puppet character. I'm having trouble thinking of any brand new archetypes that aren't already covered by the existing characters.
I want a character that makes me feel like I'm playing modern Yu-Gi-Oh in the sense that the fights either end in a few turns due to a mega-combo or grinds to a complete halt because I bricked.
>Thoughts

I don't really care, there's a billion other roguelike deck builders now and they all are more interesting because (at least the one with some effort behind it) they are not trying to be slay the spire, so with the sequel looking to be more of the same, what makes that different from the no effort clones?
Slay the spire itself is kind of overrated if you ask me, I hate how it feels like your run difficulty depends on getting a good tier 1 treasure, I hate how many boss of floor 2 basically boil down to bursting the boss all at once because if the fight last more than x turn or you leave the boss at 10% health, shit becomes fricked, I hate that class with the calm/anger system where you die because you did the math slightly wrong and the enemy survived with 2 HP and now you are taking a billion damage because you're still in rage mode
I hated defect for countless hours, now he's the the only one I enjoy playing. He feels like a swiss army knife that can easily shift to an archetype no matter the situation. The others are extremely polarizing and can just die if they don't find cards they are looking for.

Why did there need to be a sequel? What does it do that the first did or could not?
Why does it need to do something different?
New engine to avoid Unity
Possible rebuild of the RNG system
Better modability
As long as it's as moddable as the first game it will be kino.
Just copy the best ideas from mods, and avoid the streamer bait shit.
I hope they made a sequel because they had a bunch of new ideas they couldn't implement and not because they just wanted revenue for updating visuals, adding a few characters and some cards.
Based on this image alone I can already tell it's going to be dogshit that completely misses the mark.
maybe i missed it, but from the trailer a bunch of the cards looked exactly the same as the ones from the first game??

>you need to replace Strike and Defend with some random shit because... because you just do, okay?
Ironclad still has shrug it off and cleave, why can't we have 3 new classes instead of just 1? why not show new ironclad cards?
I for one like the idea of playing a familiar class to get used to the new enemies/bosses/encounters/relics before making the switch to the new character.

My hope is that it is a clone of the first game with new ascension modifiers and achievements.
Do you want it to be different or the same? Make up your mind. And yes, Ganker is one person.
same same but different
Do you not know the difference between structure and content?
Honestly I don't know, StS is already such a great game, I imagine the path they will go is StS but with more stuff. I hope the cards are different enough and allow some new builds. Especially Silent 'cause her gameplan wasn't so varied compared to other characters and builds didn't feel that different.
You can do crazy combos with Nightmare that no other character has access to.
The art is still ugly as frick. I can understand the first one having shit designs but they don't have an excuse for the sequel.
More robust modding tools.
More lewd mods, cause I find those ones the most interesting.
idk, they've practically confirmed it's the exact same core so the only thing they can do differently is just...add more stuff. Worthless after Balatro.
thanks for dividing the modding community tho, very cool
I'll wait for someone to port the content to STS1 as a mod.
>easily zoom to +18 ironclad

this shit is cancer
It's a cash grab. If they don't massively change the systems in the game there is no point over creating a new game.
