Does Shadowrun work well for a 'small unit of anime tactical operators' game? Cyberpunk Red seems deathly boring, but I heard Shadowrun is a mess of a game.

>Does Shadowrun work well
depending on edition the answer will vary from "not really" to "absolutely not"
Well that just fricking sucks
Cyberpunk 2020 would do much better (if you allow the mechanics to tell you truths that are not true for our reality, i.e. submachine guns are good). Alternatively, hit up Ops and Tactics or flip it all around and play FATE but have the GM demand autism from all player descriptions.
>if you allow the mechanics to tell you truths that are not true for our reality, i.e. submachine guns are good
you gotta elaborate on that. There might be a surprising amount of /k/ and /tg/ crossover, but not everyone knows.
I’m not that anon but I think he’s being a bit excessive. SMGs serve a very specific role but you often see them in media used all over the place. SMGs exist for tactical urban combat where larger guns would be too obtuse and unwieldy. They need to be able to be shouldered or accessed quickly for indoor and tight space combats. They spew a ton of bullets and have bad accuracy in comparison to larger guns but the situations they’re intended for don’t require immense accuracy and aren’t at long range. They also jam more frequently than most other firearms so that’s a serious knock against them.
NTA but I would assume that's the issue.
In real life they are really only useful in their own very specific niche, while in Shadowrun they're more of a generalist "works well enough for everything" kind of thing.
>Captcha KJ0RDN
No, captcha. Kjordn-corp specializes in heavy weaponry and vehicles. They barely make rifles, let alone any worthwhile SMGs.
Kinda if you can get past it being Shadowrun. Unless you let mages in, because a player character Mage and a borged out Street Sam can make any encounter trivial as they walk through concrete walls and call down nuclear bombs.
Just use Cyberpunk 2020 dumbo
use gurps, steal adventures from shadowrun and cyberpunk
Saori san!!!! My precious student!!! hello!!!!!!
Read a doujin where she was raped and had her soul extracted into poo. Only reason I clicked on the thread.
Have you tried Cities Without Number? The author has a great track record of fixing other franchises' concepts with sane mechanics (so far he's done Exalted, DnD fantasy, and sci-fi), and this is his 'cyberpunk' splat.
>dndshit
If the biggest complaint you can come up with for the Without Number books is that they use d20, I'd say the dude is doing an OK job. Certainly better than that of any Shadowrun edition.
It's not the biggest complaint, it's just the biggest red flag that it sucks (It does)
I wouldn't use d20 as the sole red flag.
I will admit that almost everything else is wrong about it though.
>Godbound
>fixing exalted in any way, shape, or form
You can't fix Exalted, it's the RPG equivalent of a super-creative girl who has seven untreated mental disorders, can't keep a stable opinion in her head for two hours straight, and is both a lot of fun and the biggest pain in the ass you've ever met.
Many have tried, all have failed. That way leads madness.
>so far he's done Exalted, DnD fantasy, and sci-fi, and this is his 'cyberpunk' splat.
he actually made d&d 4 times.
to be fair I've looked skimmed cities without number and it really seems the traveller to d&d ratio is way higher, there is no classes, skills have level progression and 2d6 rolling, there is even a really rudimentary career path for character creation...2 more games and he will be just making traveller with other name
Wait for that gamedevgen autist to finish his dicky Archive rpg.
Name of?
Do you mean XCOM+Rainbow six siege with a ttrpg system?
Couldn't that be made with any grid system that does firearms?
>Name of?
Notepad anon
homebrew thread died so I guess you can wait for him to make a video about it on his youtube

Ty anon.
Fun to keep track of /tg/ projects.
Dark Heresy 2e or Only War (the system is more or less the same between them) is good for small unit tactic RPGs, even if you just file the serial numbers off and don't use the setting.
Shadowrun is a mess of a game within its own structure because you have three different subsystems that can demand GM engagement. It's not terrible at cinematic gunfights.
It depends on how the player are built
I ran an "elf go fast!" Build with maxed agility, near max reaction and skimmers
I could outrun the bullets
If its for what i think its for, one of the anons from the game dev thread is working on a game for it. I'm "helping" on it (making him wanna blow his brains out)
Personally Id say HERO is unfortunately one of the best bets for Blue Archive (character ability creation, weakness creation rules for halo rules, etc.) while also being one of the worst cuz of its complexity
what? most of the characters have the ability of "shooting guns", and why do you need weakness creation rules for a weakness that is exactly the same across all characters? do you really need to shill your system in the most nonsensical ways?
>most of the characters have the ability of "shooting guns"
The characters all have their own passives and signature moves
>why do you need weakness creation rules for a weakness that is exactly the same across all characters?
Its that the weakness being there gives you more character creation points
>do you really need to shill your system in the most nonsensical ways
Did you not consider googling the game? The latest edition has been around since 2009; what boomer is shilling their game thats been out and selling over a decade
>Cyberpunk Red seems deathly boring
What's boring about it? You want the rules to be straightforward; it makes it easier to build an interesting scenario.
I don't know where you heard that. If you're not looking for something rather simulationist RED is pretty much perfect for what you're looking for.
>Does Shadowrun work
No.
>Small-unit tactics
You already know the skill and non-corebook mechanic for this.
