>Smash Clones, Smash Killers, these outdated terms were thrown at games trying to innovate on Nintendo's formula. Now, the Platform Fighter scene is entering a new era
>We spoke with developers from different indie fighters to see what sets them apart.
Thoughts on this genre? Why are Smash fans so scared of alternatives?
Fraymakers sweep
Why are they still developing that mess? It's over. Go home. Rivals 2 and Combo Devils are the only good looking ones.
Maybe they think they can salvage it.
what sells me on this game is the super jumps, air dash and how the shield works, not these combo videos
hey wait you just described stuff that rushrev did years ago
Not with those furry designs it won't
I think only the little racoon is the furry
furry
not because it has animals
just look at the style and designs. you should just be able to tell if you have any internet literacy at all
doesn't look any more furry than smash's roster
typical braindead rostergay
Sure, I just don’t care much about being competitive. I want to go in and beat shit up as fun characters. Most platform fighters are furry bait and that’s not my thing.
>Lizzo
>is a heavyweight character
I shuckled. I gotta say, Rivals designs are better, the Elephant Magma AxeEmperor is cool
Rivals designs are okay but the alt costumes are what make them look cool.
yeah, I really like the triceratops Kragg The Beetle guy
For me it's Gundam Wrastor
Half the point of Smash is it's a Nintendo crossover, the successful "platform fighters" don't try to 100% ape Smash. But it's still pretty blatantly Smash they're aping.
I wish, but its core roster sucks fricking ass. Whoever thought they should add Orcane and Fishbunjin when they're already playable in RoA and Slap City should be shot.
But wait there were more Smash Killers!
Brawhalla has more active players than Smash Bros though, sure is free to play but still
>Brawhalla has more active players than Smash Bros though
Wrong. Delusional westcuck.
based
Brawlhalla gets like 100k people playing it everyday on Steam alone
A good chunk of those were just party fighters that were not really going for being a Smash killer as much as a quick easy game to shove some existing stuff in
>Rivals of Aether
why do tendies try to spin rivals 1 as a flop when it sold great, had several spinoffs, and just a few months ago a successful kickstarter?
They're afraid.
Afraid of a game that only peaked at 2k players?
Smash Ultimate sold 33 million copies and it is still selling extremely well.
Your shitty game is literally nothing.
Playercoonting is such cancer. You're calling the game "shitty" on no merit other than it failed to outsell a 25 year old IP with a huge budget and a frickton of marketing. You're insane.
Btw that's some incredible player retention right there. The game is just a year older than Smash 4 yet it's still healthy and steady.
Bruh, you sound mad insecure right now. Just sayin'. No platform fighter's trying to directly compete with Smash bros, it's impossible.
Rival 2's just doing its own thing, and it's already shown promise to be significantly better than Ultimate from a competitive perspective, as low of a bar that may be.
>and it's already shown promise to be significantly better than Ultimate from a competitive perspective
Wow, it's literally nothing.
Not many people play this kind of game competitively. Just a very annoying loud minority.
Maybe because like other Smash clones claiming to be a Smash killer, it sure didn't kill Smash. As smart as claiming that surely THIS YEAR Melee competitive scene is going to die.
Could you find where the devs ever claimed RoA was a Smash Killer? Sounds like you hallucinated this
Devs rarely claim their games are [x]-killer. But RoA fans sure have been claiming that. It was the first thing I heard about it back in late 2017 on how Smash will never beat it and how Melee comp scene will die etc. etc.
The usual song and dance you get with any non-Smash platform fighter fanbase. I'm personally tired of all of the "Smash killers" trying to be competitive out of bat like many "eSports" games are these days. There rarely is any other reason to play those games than ranked online competitive.
you're latching onto bantz from 7 years ago? nobody genuinely thought that a pixel art game was going to literally put smash out of business, are you naive or something? people just say "smash is over" as hyperbole to have fun with people like you, dawg.
>I'm tired of [platform fighters] trying to be competitive out [the] bat like many "eSports" games are these days.
What's wrong with wanting a game to have depth, sempai? Do you go around playing casual platform fighters such as Spider Heck, Samurai Gunn, Towerfall, and Knight Club? No, you don't, certainly not for longer than a few sessions.
Anyone think Multiversus shit will be announced tomorrow?
don't care still playing trannies of aether with 500+ quality characters
Ult is fricking trash. Melee is king.
Small penis syndrome
>Game Killers
This has always been a moronic buzzword by tabloid homosexuals that I heard as far back as Dark Cloud being called a Zelda killer. Even if a game is better than another game it's not going to magically make the other game disappear. Smash, Slap City and Rivals have some of the best experiences among themselves and the rest pictured are absolute fricking garbage.
i played NASB2 over the free weekend and it was pretty fun and polished. shame not many people play it though. they should add rollback to slap city
Had Viacom suits not rushed the first game out the door, they could've had something quite popular. Had they not charged $50 for what is just a revision, they might have been able to salvage the playerbase. But they did neither. Typical greedy licensed game.
>Had they not charged $50 for what is just a revision
it should've been like 20 dollars but it genuinely is a 64 to melee-level difference with the number of mechanics they added and the actual game engine is completely different on top of that. the way knockback works was completely rewritten because NASB1 had a special snowflake way of handling it that completely fricked them in the ass and they had to go for a more normal implementation in NASB2
Rivals and Slap do not fricking deserve to be thrown in the shitpile with MV, NASB, and Brawlhalla. You fricking tasteless c**t.
I don’t really care about platform fighting games, but I do care about playing as Mario fighting Inkling Girl and Pikachu on Hyrule Temple. These other platform fighters don’t have characters worth caring about.
These posts are so weird. Like you don't see people go into racing game threads and be like "I don't care about courses or driving or whatever I just want to see Bowser side swipe Mario in a go kart." Why are you here in a thread about a subgenre talking about how you don't like the genre? For what purpose?
Going into a puzzle thread and being like "I only like Dr. Mario but I play so I can see Peach in a nurse outfit idc about matching colors or whatever." You're weird and fanboyish I guess
Sure you do. You can be a race fan but you're not going to run over to play pony racing or nick jr. kart even if the tracks, music, etc is designed well with tight controls. Same with picking a platformer that might have a theme of kid friendly ninja vs. space pirate.
Roaster plays a part in the selection process because roaster is being used as part of the appeal. Rivals or whatever OC may be fine games but I have no interest in literal whos in sweaty combat.
PSASBR bros? Why weren't we included?
Melee is still king.
Nickers 2 is pretty fun, too bad they didnt bring back some characters from the first game
they need to buff nigel i know they're paranoid about recreating melee puff but he's fricking ass and even if they just straight-up made him into melee puff he'd still be ass just like puff is ass in project plus despite being buffed from melee but he'd be less ass than he is currently
