Depends on my mood or what strategies I wanna play. I like both personally, and I liked triple battles too. Rotation battles were also a fun idea.
I've never cared much for doubles so I stick to singles
I like doubles, it makes your team feel more like a team with your mons working together in battle. And the battles are over faster, so every move is more meaningfilled. Honestly I think most people only think they prefer singles out of nostalgia for the show and GRBY.
It's an entirely different kind of gameplay, I don't think it can be reduced to nostalgia so easily.
