Most likely. That said Komori isn't the only director EO has had post-Niinou. 4 had a different director for example but Atlus's projects during the 3DS days were smaller in scale and budget so they could get away with having multiple teams work on multiple projects.

Prime example are the kishin: most of them are demon killers and protectors in their mythos but are considered a chaotic race in SMT.
That said, their are some "guidelines" for some of them that are reoccurring and usually consistent thematically, shit like the Goetia Demons (like Ose) are generally gonna be Fallen (as in Fallen Angels) rather then Megami (Goddess) or Femme that are basically female only and Megami will generally be "better Femme" due consisting of more major godesses compared to femmes just being a melting pot of demons and mythical creatures that are female.
That said shit is basically up to Atlus and the plot in the end, but generally if a demon sounds like it would fit the Race it will probably be that race unless another race available in the game is even more apt.
The story in 5 sucks but gameplay is top notch. Especially since you can turn any demon to pretty much anything via stats, skills, etc.

Coming off of recently playing Nocturne and ADiA, this sounds good. I do tend to like making my MC a phys brute with light buffs.
The story isn't that much worse than most other megaten titles tbh. There's a lot of jarring whiplash moments for the alignment characters and baffling drop of a hat character changes in some arcs.

They tried to redo the first two games with the IV duology making it almost a reserve situation, but the story in those games is beyond anime moronation.
The difference is that the first two games were trying to shit on both Japan and the US imperialism both at the same time, this by referencing real people and having a cool futuristic setting based on esoteric ideas.
IV/IVA meanwhile try to play with the ideas of the first two games by adding twists, while going completely moronic with stupid anime troupes. The first one, IV, specially can't decide how the portray the Chaos alignment in relation to the Japanese nationalism to the point where in IVA they do a hard mea culpa which is just embarrassing. The story is all over the place.

So the game is going to be a gender war and the final boss is probably going to be some representation of femininity.
I doubt it will focus much on any specific, but general narratives of oppressed vs oppressor. How those with power should wield it and how they have largely failed. I can start to guess how the cast fits into those roles but it really depends on the direction. Yuzuru is probably the government's role in society, Miyazu how some are just dealt a bad hand, Dazai could be about social pressure or religion. Sahori seems like she'd benefit most from this new focus. Even if her plot stays largely the same its a good example of the oppressed lashing out. Not sure about Shohei and Nuwa.

I mean, that was basically what Nocturne did to Vanilla 3 by taking on the Candelabra "BECOME BEST FIEND" shtick and Labyrinth on Amala giving regularly scheduled info dumps as it unlocked as the original plot was progressed.
I like the base Nocturne narrative and the base V narrative. Both games are masterpieces and while I appreciate Atlus is a company that actually listens to feedback, storygays were always a blight.
Its a shame the original doesn't seem to get any new content. Just a few more scenes with the reps and better ending cutscenes wouldn't transform the story but they'd just make it feel less barren.
It'd still leave the game thematically pretty weak, and unless the scenes were amazing I wouldn't have much attachment to them. Despite the Nocturne-ness of V the story is a lot more structured and involved so you can't really pull off the same detached nature. VV seemingly leaning into something more involved is probably the right move, if there is actually a lot of story content and not like V where we saw it all in the trailers.
I think he's cool, he gets too much hate but I will admit if he entirely just looked like the marble statue white half he wouldn't get nearly as much hate.

The real biggest problem is his fricked up proportions and the anime armblades on top of being an edgy representation for his "dark" side. It looks like a 12 year old designed it.
I'm pretty sure it's a take on the modern interpenetration of Zeus and his actions. The Greeks saw him as the king of kings. Meanwhile, because of his sexual antics, most people in the modern day calls him a rapist and considers him a bad person. So he's being demonized here. It's also worth noting Daemon mentions he wasn't always like this, though it could just be a joke about his redesign.

SMT is still a niche, a fairly big niche now but a V re-release wasn't gonna change that so yeah I think it'll still do fine. I'd like it not to overlap just to get some attention. But the point of going multiplat is to slowly drag personagays by the nose and make them finally try mainline.
But still the deciding factor is how long people will talk about and how positive the reception would be. In terms of sales since it's multiplat I think there's a decent chance it does close to the original but only if people like it.

One thing that does concerns me is that in V it was super easy to make Superdemons, to the point where from very early on you could make certain demons like Idunn or the DLC saint seiya girl and just keep improving their skill sets.
On one hand it's good that you can take your favorite demons all the way to the end. On the other it kinda sucks that the essense that demons have a lifespan and you should constantly update your party kinda gets thrown off the window.
making super demons always feels good, it's bad when the game doesn't punish you for falling on the same tactic or doesn't provide sufficient challenge
Without jumping loops its hard to keep them relevant statwise.
You have to reach lvl 95 with Bino, unlocked the warriors conception and prayer miracles, then you need ALL of the fusion materials to lvl up 20 TIMES.
If youre planning to fuse something different than special fusions with fixed materials, the additioned base level of the materials have be >lvl142 so your targeted demon will receive the full boost from warriors conception.
Wich subsequentionaly means that you have to lvl up high tier demons to allmost max level.
Thats the fusion part done, after that you have to lvl up and feed essences for the skills you want them to have.
I made a perfect idun, and the time and ressources i needed for that was unproportinal to the result.
And that was rather easy in comparisson, cause the materials where all low level demons, so leveling them didnt take much time.
But yeah, allmost 200 Stat Points more than a Idun at the same level, summoned the conventional way.
Perfectly servicable, but any endgame demon will surpass them statwise by a BIG margin, and i am a OCPD Black person and feel like shit when i dont use the full potential of something, or "waste" time on suboptimal stuff.
Or even worse: missing out on stuff and permanently missables.
I woud rather have all those Bonus stats incorperated into natural statgrowth, but backloaded in to the last 20 levels or so.
Woudnt make any difference in Gameplay, infact it woud reward those players that keept their demons till the end of the game.
Most players woud still fuse their demons off to combat the changing demands of the games challanges tho, the way SMT intends to be played.

Bad in general. Whoever did the rest of the design for the game outside of the characters couldn't keep up with Miwa's designs in the slightest, and so the game just ends up looking cheap and weird near 100% of the time. There's a whole argument to be made about whether it actually keeps the soul of Soul Hackers (it doesn't) but that's besides the point. Basically every SMT game has wildly different art design and it never mattered.
I think the art direction when it's present is fine for SH2. But that's mainly the few UI elements they try on and character designs.
The real problem is the game is just plain tedious. It's grindy, slow, the dungeons are boring as hell, they pad everything out with optional dungeons in a featureless digital training room environment, and the music is ok but not as good as most Megaten series in general.
But I will say that it has a lot in the setup and framework as far as characters, story, and setting that fit Devil Summoner/Soul Hackers, and it's annoying how much people would shitpost that it's bad for not being anything like Soul Hackers when an insane amount of it is spot on and more like Soul Hackers than Soul Hackers was like Devil Summoner 1. It's just that it's a bad game and idiots who never bothered to discover it latched onto a point to shit on and never bothered to update it after the game came out to reveal that part's wrong and the game's simply bad.
Because it was P5 without the coombait. You could forgive the bad things in P5 because most of the females were nicely designed.
The hang outs were annoying. With P5 you can atleast look at the women and you got closer to them.
The story was trying to be edgy. Same with p5, you can forgive Ann's shitty story because she wiggles her ass.
The dungeons for your party members looked like it was for a Wii game.

Playing it right now, probably 3/4 through, the characters are mostly unlikable/ act like fricking morons and the story is barely even there. Most of it is literally just a stupid hunt for the rainbow worms with nothing interesting happening at all. The sidequests are unironically a hundred times more interesting as the main scenario, that's a problem.
I wouldn't even have minded the copy paste dungeons if they were carried by the story.
The combat is really whatever too, Sabbaths are easily the worst twist on the turn based weakness system MegaTen has.

i do like most of doi's art but 3 of the members of the witch coven here has a problem that some of doi's designs also have: too many geometric shapes stapled on.
girl on the left, lilith, and the girl to the right of lilith have these distracting markings that just seem there to make the design more compicated. the witch also has a repeated pattern going on with her gown that extends to her legs and the umbrella has a geometric pattern as well but it actually looks good. and i've just noticed the repeated circles with her witch hat but the faded coloring makes them easy to miss.
needless to say the witch's design is excellent. easily the best of the lot.

It depends on the context. With Hydra I like it for giving the effect of scales and a cracked pot glued together. It works off the designs main inspirations. With the Qedesha I'm less convinced. Black Face is most likely to just be random squiggles so not much of a fan. The prostitute it could potentially play into something cause she seems to have this whole evil smoke thing going on. Lilith I'm not sure why she is part stegosaurus. The witch is clearly the stand out and why people have already made some pretty solid guesses.

That said, their are some "guidelines" for some of them that are reoccurring and usually consistent thematically, shit like the Goetia Demons (like Ose) are generally gonna be Fallen (as in Fallen Angels) rather then Megami (Goddess) or Femme that are basically female only and Megami will generally be "better Femme" due consisting of more major godesses compared to femmes just being a melting pot of demons and mythical creatures that are female.
That said shit is basically up to Atlus and the plot in the end, but generally if a demon sounds like it would fit the Race it will probably be that race unless another race available in the game is even more apt.

The story isn't that much worse than most other megaten titles tbh. There's a lot of jarring whiplash moments for the alignment characters and baffling drop of a hat character changes in some arcs.

I doubt it will focus much on any specific, but general narratives of oppressed vs oppressor. How those with power should wield it and how they have largely failed. I can start to guess how the cast fits into those roles but it really depends on the direction. Yuzuru is probably the government's role in society, Miyazu how some are just dealt a bad hand, Dazai could be about social pressure or religion. Sahori seems like she'd benefit most from this new focus. Even if her plot stays largely the same its a good example of the oppressed lashing out. Not sure about Shohei and Nuwa.

I like the base Nocturne narrative and the base V narrative. Both games are masterpieces and while I appreciate Atlus is a company that actually listens to feedback, storygays were always a blight.

It'd still leave the game thematically pretty weak, and unless the scenes were amazing I wouldn't have much attachment to them. Despite the Nocturne-ness of V the story is a lot more structured and involved so you can't really pull off the same detached nature. VV seemingly leaning into something more involved is probably the right move, if there is actually a lot of story content and not like V where we saw it all in the trailers.

But still the deciding factor is how long people will talk about and how positive the reception would be. In terms of sales since it's multiplat I think there's a decent chance it does close to the original but only if people like it.

One thing that does concerns me is that in V it was super easy to make Superdemons, to the point where from very early on you could make certain demons like Idunn or the DLC saint seiya girl and just keep improving their skill sets.
On one hand it's good that you can take your favorite demons all the way to the end. On the other it kinda sucks that the essense that demons have a lifespan and you should constantly update your party kinda gets thrown off the window.
making super demons always feels good, it's bad when the game doesn't punish you for falling on the same tactic or doesn't provide sufficient challenge
Without jumping loops its hard to keep them relevant statwise.
You have to reach lvl 95 with Bino, unlocked the warriors conception and prayer miracles, then you need ALL of the fusion materials to lvl up 20 TIMES.
If youre planning to fuse something different than special fusions with fixed materials, the additioned base level of the materials have be >lvl142 so your targeted demon will receive the full boost from warriors conception.
Wich subsequentionaly means that you have to lvl up high tier demons to allmost max level.
Thats the fusion part done, after that you have to lvl up and feed essences for the skills you want them to have.
I made a perfect idun, and the time and ressources i needed for that was unproportinal to the result.
And that was rather easy in comparisson, cause the materials where all low level demons, so leveling them didnt take much time.
But yeah, allmost 200 Stat Points more than a Idun at the same level, summoned the conventional way.

I woud rather have all those Bonus stats incorperated into natural statgrowth, but backloaded in to the last 20 levels or so.
Woudnt make any difference in Gameplay, infact it woud reward those players that keept their demons till the end of the game.
Most players woud still fuse their demons off to combat the changing demands of the games challanges tho, the way SMT intends to be played.

Bad in general. Whoever did the rest of the design for the game outside of the characters couldn't keep up with Miwa's designs in the slightest, and so the game just ends up looking cheap and weird near 100% of the time. There's a whole argument to be made about whether it actually keeps the soul of Soul Hackers (it doesn't) but that's besides the point. Basically every SMT game has wildly different art design and it never mattered.
I think the art direction when it's present is fine for SH2. But that's mainly the few UI elements they try on and character designs.
The real problem is the game is just plain tedious. It's grindy, slow, the dungeons are boring as hell, they pad everything out with optional dungeons in a featureless digital training room environment, and the music is ok but not as good as most Megaten series in general.
But I will say that it has a lot in the setup and framework as far as characters, story, and setting that fit Devil Summoner/Soul Hackers, and it's annoying how much people would shitpost that it's bad for not being anything like Soul Hackers when an insane amount of it is spot on and more like Soul Hackers than Soul Hackers was like Devil Summoner 1. It's just that it's a bad game and idiots who never bothered to discover it latched onto a point to shit on and never bothered to update it after the game came out to reveal that part's wrong and the game's simply bad.
Because it was P5 without the coombait. You could forgive the bad things in P5 because most of the females were nicely designed.
The hang outs were annoying. With P5 you can atleast look at the women and you got closer to them.
The story was trying to be edgy. Same with p5, you can forgive Ann's shitty story because she wiggles her ass.

Connections to the original Soul Hackers are loose at best and nonexistent at worst, calling it "2" was a massive mistake
But really, when you get down to it, it's just a really boring game

so they decided to grab anything else and found SH which lead to them getting the all green since Atlus did/does not give a shit about SH
and then they proceded to ignore 90% of SH's identity to make their vapid persona clone
somehow forgetting Persona is on a rut, persona fans don't buy anything not named persona and finally alienated most of SH's fans

Playing it right now, probably 3/4 through, the characters are mostly unlikable/ act like fricking morons and the story is barely even there. Most of it is literally just a stupid hunt for the rainbow worms with nothing interesting happening at all. The sidequests are unironically a hundred times more interesting as the main scenario, that's a problem.
I wouldn't even have minded the copy paste dungeons if they were carried by the story.
The combat is really whatever too, Sabbaths are easily the worst twist on the turn based weakness system MegaTen has.
If you were disappointed by Soul Hackers 2 then you deserved it, there was no reason to expect anything good form it in the first place.

i do like most of doi's art but 3 of the members of the witch coven here has a problem that some of doi's designs also have: too many geometric shapes stapled on.
girl on the left, lilith, and the girl to the right of lilith have these distracting markings that just seem there to make the design more compicated. the witch also has a repeated pattern going on with her gown that extends to her legs and the umbrella has a geometric pattern as well but it actually looks good. and i've just noticed the repeated circles with her witch hat but the faded coloring makes them easy to miss.
needless to say the witch's design is excellent. easily the best of the lot.

It depends on the context. With Hydra I like it for giving the effect of scales and a cracked pot glued together. It works off the designs main inspirations. With the Qedesha I'm less convinced. Black Face is most likely to just be random squiggles so not much of a fan. The prostitute it could potentially play into something cause she seems to have this whole evil smoke thing going on. Lilith I'm not sure why she is part stegosaurus. The witch is clearly the stand out and why people have already made some pretty solid guesses.

I mean, realistically what do you suppose they do? It's not feasible to go back and rewrite the base story from scratch, it isn't feasible to even really edit it to the point you'd be able to change anything meaningful. This is the best option, give existent characters recursive context through a new story from the midway point and try to execute a better finale for everyone.

Vengeance has both vanilla story and the new story as an option to play through. Presumably the vanilla story is untouched or at the very least will get some minor QoL in its gameplay systems.
So you could wait and play Vanilla+ (assuming that's what they do) and then Vengeance. Or play Vanilla now and then just Vengeance later.
