MGS2 was a genius deconstruction of the first game that explored themes of AI, memetics, censorship, and whether or not we can truly call ourselves free. Reminder that MGS2 was meant to be the final game in the series, the moment where Raiden throws out the player's dog tags was a message to player telling (You) to touch grass instead of trying to be a badass hero in a fantasy world. MGS3 was a slap in the face to people like me that understood 2's message. Not only was it a return to video game escapist rubbish, but it had the same graphics as Shadow of the Colossus and every other ugly mid-2000s PS2 game. It became another trend chasing franchise like Call of Duty.
MGS3 is a better Bond story than any of the Moore films. As silly as some of the villains may have been, none of them were as dumb as "fat guy who bites really hard."
