i've played this so much, one of my favourites. I never beat it on the hardest difficulty though. There's a 3D remake I saw a few years ago that looked really good but i never tried it, i think i just forgot but it looks good
Serious question, Mega Drive or SNES version? Having played both I feel snes looks and sounds clearer while mega drive has an extra song.
I recall playing with my friend who had never played before. He kept getting upgrades for his beach buggy which I warned him not to. As soon as we got to the next planet I bought an Air blade and upgraded my weapons. First race I annihilated his shitty beach buggy and he got stuck on a hill having to reverse down it which caused him to snap throwing his controller and turning off the mega drive.
i only ever played the snes version. Yeah i used to save most of my cash for the air blade car and would only upgrade the earlier car a tiny bit, and i'd leave the tires un-upgraded so i could do massive drifting. The tank was probably better but i liked the slideyness. It would be great if they remade it properly
....looks like there's some rom hacks here, i haven't tried them though. The genesis version has the most stuff by the look of it

snes only has one for the audio

Bought it on Steam before it got pulled. I remember it felt quite unpolished and not very fun for some reason. I should give it another shot, it's been a while. If you want a "modern" take on the genre, Blaze Rush is the way to go. It lacks the metal music unfortunately but it compensates with great controls and new modes (Death Race being the big highlight). It's mostly a multiplayer game with a bare bones story mode thrown in. One of the best local multiplayer games I've played in years.
I remember years ago they discovered that there was another character place holder after Olaf, some people dubbed him the phantom or something.
to me it was always clear it was supposed to be Blackthorne.

I played this game back in the days but couldn't enjoy it for more than 10 minutes.
The gameplay is just so extremely shallow... I don't understand the hype for this game except for the cool soundtrack.
You learn how to use the nitro button to get the best boost, the tracks become harder, you learn which angle you should use to ram other cars, you learn at which part of the track you should shoot if you don't want to miss. It's just the small things that stack up.
it's just a racing game, what more do you expect on the snes. Fzero and mario kart arguably look better but they dont have the money system with the shop to upgrade stuff etc. It's better than RPM Racing or other games like that. It's mostly on-par with Biker Mice from Mars, but i reckon RnRR has better music and it has more cars

Biker mice is better than rnrr as it's much faster.

RIP LOOKS LOST OUT THERE!!
Yeah, I had the SNES version. Introduced me to Highway Star by Deep Purple.
Wasn't it retconned as taking place in the Starcraft universe?
Olaf LIGHTS HIM UP!

IVAN SCORES THE FIRST PLACE KNOCKOUT
The more you play the less shallow it becomes.
Please explain. I was baffled by the repetitive gameplay.

Meh. It's just insignificant details, the gameplay is flawed.
Those details stack up and make a decent challenge. Also, you sound like a low-IQ homosexual, so frick off.

My fav game of all time, thanks for this thread. My only complaint was that it forced you to wait to buy armor (AI bought armor only as player did).
