>so anon what games do you play?
Been playing games for years and I still struggle with this question. How would you responded Ganker

I just lie and say Call of Duty.
in reality I play Strategy games like Total War and Paradox Games
I just cannot be arsed to talk to normies, which are the only group that would bother to ask.
I just tell them the truth, mostly single player games and RPGs. Of course they've never heard of any of the games I mention, but that's fine by me.
Respond with the most mainsteam game you actually like, maybe even name a game you sort of like the idea of but dont even know. For me thats elden ring(actually like it) and maybe ill say bg3 is something im looking forward to trying at some point. I adjust it to the person I'm speaking with and what their knowledge is.
>say the most mainstream games I play
>people still don't know them
Gaming is in a really weird state. I've had convos at work where "lifelong gamers" don't know resident evil, god of war, final fantasy, etc.
if it's a single player game, no one in the entire world has EVER heard of it unless it's open world slop then like 5% of people have heard of it.
that's been my experience with "Gaming" in the wild.
When I was working in a pediatric surgical wing I got to talk to a lot of little zoomers before they were put under and any kind of gamer was a Minecraft player. None of them ever heard of any of the franchises you mentioned and these kids were up to 18 years old. They were dumb as frick too. Only the cancer patients were quite present and actually read books and not just consoom.
i'd say
>i play some tf2c, a classic mod for tf2
>i played a bunch of oldschool runescape back in the day and on some vanilla wow private server
>theres this one niche game ss13 i enjoy its about a space station.
>the only singleplayer games i play are paradox releases like hoi4 and ck2
>but yeah obviously ive also played shit like minecraft, csgo, etc
it's not hard to list the games you play anon
t. incel with zero self-awareness
>hey anon, I'm a gamer too
>I like Fifa
I avoid such conversations entirely.
why is this even an issue that you have to lie about it jesus christ
You've clearly never been picrelled when talking about stuff you actually like. In some environments there's pretty much a 99% chance whoever you're talking to doesn't know any of the games you play aside from like CoD or Fortnite, at best they just make the picrel face and it turns kinda awkward, at worst they think you're a future incel mass shooter. It is almost never worth it unless you work in IT or something like that were people can be a bit dorkier.
>at best they just make the picrel face and it turns kinda awkward
pretty sure that happens because you start ranting about it : just drop a couple names or genres and you'll be fine
if they ask for clarification expand on it while keeping it very short
if they ask for more you can rant all you want
I'm not that fricking autistic, of course I don't rant unprompted, I just drop a name and nobody knows wtf it is and it already kills the conversation because nobody knows it and has nothing to say aside from "yeah man, a fighting game, yeah uh cool". Granted I work with turbonormies who do nothing but get drunk at parties and have sex. I'm extremely nerdy to them just because I play a lot of (old) vidya and because I occasionally watch arthouse movies.
I dunno dude
this feels so incredibly alien to me
I had vidya talk with a 60year old cleaning lady the other day where I just kept shitting on her dumb phone game and we were both having a laugh
I have to admit that I'm autistic and EXTREMELY insecure and will make shit awkward as a self fulfilling prophecy because I assume people won't care if I tell them something so if I do tell them I tell them as if it is this really lame thing they really shouldn't care about and then I try to change the subject ASAP
ye I assumed as much once you said
>and it kills the conversation because nobody knows it
I talk about oscure shit all the time, as long as you make it interesting people will listen
charisma issue
the other day my co-worker told me he remembered playing a game from his childhood but couldn't remember the name. he described it to me, and I told him the name of the game.
Then he called me a nerd and laughed in my face that I knew the answer to the question that had been bothering him for years as he put it. Normal homosexuals need fricking help
That’s fricking hilarious, what bizarro American teen movie about a virgin do you live in?
damn you guys are weak
>You've clearly never been picrelled when talking about stuff you actually like.
I have and so fricking what. Are you afraid of the fluoride stare? Don't spaghetti the moment someone mentions video games and you will be okay.
>incel mass shooter
name every thing that can go wrong after this
Can get you arrested you?
Can get you fired
elaborate
>meet some new guy, friends tell me he's a gamer
>asks what I play
>tell him some things mention dwarf fortress
>dwarf fortress?
>Oh, yeah...
>proceed to talk for ~20 mins about a funny save I have going where I have a vampire mayor who has killed over 1,000 elves despite having no combat skills
>What about you?
>Oh i've never played it
How do you respond without sounding mad?
Why are you surprised that he never played it? Sounds like he didn't know what it was prior to you talking about it.
I mentioned like 5 random games and he only questioned dwarf fortress, I just assumed he had played it especially when he let me blather on about it for so long
>How do you respond without sounding mad?
I respond by giving him a link to the download page and telling him to let me know if he gets stuck because it has a bit of a learning curve.
I once had a coworker tell me all about who his favorite characters were on Game Of Thrones and how much he hated the later seasons and the ending, only to then casually reveal to me he never actually watched a single episode. Dude was autistic as shit but still, fricking what
I was friends with a guy for like a decade who was extremely autistic about Majora's Mask and Mother 3 but confessed to me earlier this year that he has beaten neither of them.
>has beaten neither of them.
Has he even played them?
The strangest thing is that he did play both of them. I'd even seen him play both games with my own eyes before.
That's OK then I guess. Maybe he just sucks or keeps getting distracted by other media, but still really likes the worlds these games create. I think everyone has that one game they like but never actually finished. I have a bunch of them even. Although they are all good games that completely go to shit at some point.
Sure, it's just very strange of him to be nearly thirty and so hyperfixated on games he first played as a child but has still never beaten. It would be less weird if he wasn't also someone obsessed with outing posers and bandwagoners with regards to his other interests, music and le cinema. The guy is unsurprisingly someone who spent a lot of time on this website
If you are literally obsessed with them it really is quite strange yeah
what a madlad
What the frick are you saying to get this reaction? You’re surely not replying in a remotely normal way if you’re just mentioning some games you like.
Gaming is still a taboo in many social circles especially in the corporate world and people will think of you as a manchild if you mention that you play video games as a main pasttime. Like it or not that's just the simple truth. And don't give me the "who cares what people think" spiel - caring about what others think of you is actually a sign you're not a sperg.
>Gaming is still a taboo in many social circles
In that case, why would they even ask in the first place?
>Gaming has never been THIS peak mainstream, every damn person who's not 50+ games to an extent and shitloads of gaming channels all over youtube
>NoooooOoooOoo it's taboo IRL!!
wtf causes this bullshit hypocrisy and dishonesty?? why are people scared of talking about games IRL?
this isnt fricking 2000 or the 90s anymore
>every damn person who's not 50+ games to an extent
This is not as true as you think. Yes most people, even old people, play a mobile game or something every now and then. But there is still a large portion of the normalgay population that views people still playing real video games after about college age as man children. And, as others in the thread have already mentioned, even among the people that do play vidya lots of them just play things like fifa and CoD and think things other than that are weird/lame. And even further beyond that is that some things are weird to talk about as a hobby even if they're relatively normal. I live in a decently rural part of the southern US. Essentially every household has firearms, loads of people concealed carry, and everyone is desensitized to hearing gunshots in the distance. But you still have to pick and chose who to share your love of firearms with. Because while everyone has them, most don't consider it a hobby and think that people who do are weird. And vidya is the same way. Lots of people that play them also think it's weird for them to be a person's hobby, especially if they're an adult.
Here let me show you, its actually really simple. Even a toddler can play it..
I'm not sure if even "monkeys on a typewriter" could beat KitN.
Irl? I'd change the subject. I only talk about games on the internet.
>I only play casually
Pretend you don't play video games and viciously mock them for being a four eyed, noodle armed, metal mouth, turbo nerd that gets no b***hes. Then atomic wedgie followed by force fit into the nearest trash can.
A mix of Payday 3, Deep Rock Galactic and TF2. Will also abuse my old ps vita for emulation.
If its a normie asking you, just say you don't play video games. Never heard of them. Believe me after years of patronising comments and ridicule its just not worth sharing that about yourself.
Shmups, fighting games, EDF5, puzzle games, and some action RPGs though I'm picky with those.
Action adventures. Almost no normie is interested in video games but if a cute girl is pretending because she likes me and asks more questions I say something autistic like "you beat a lot of people and monsters to pulp until you get to the demiurge and you beat him to pulp too". That's pivotal to a conversation about the demiurge. Women love talking about esoteric things for some reason. And you shall know that this post required no verification.
Is Ganker a video game?
Mainly shooters. From Doom to Stalker to Far Cry, Half Life, Tf2, Fear and so on. Im not picky at all. If the game has gunplay then I probably played it.
>what's your favorite thing about those video games anon?
>you know shooting the AI controlled humans in the face and hearing their screams as they die
I already told my coworkers that im in a shooting range Club so they know that I like guns. Also my Boss does hunting as a Hobby. Im safe.
I play them frick vidyas!
well it is a bit awkward to say you play HTML porn games
I've had more real life discussions about flash hentai and hentai games than I'd like to admit
I play games that I like
I had a coworker who used to spend his time during lunch breaks resetting his portable nintendo console trying to get "shinies" in pokemon. When I asked what he thought of people who simply cheated to get them he looked at me like I'd just kicked his dog.
I don't play games, I go with my co-workers to the after office party and then go home to have sex with my wife.
I've always answered this question honestly because I have nothing to hide.
>I mostly play arcade games, fighting games, RPGs and action games.
>I've played thousands of hours of Team Fortress 2 and a little bit of Counter-Strike Source.
The conversation rarely goes much further than the two of us sharing what games we play, but I don't really mind.
>but if they know what video games I like they might call me a big gay gay like my best friends on Ganker always do! D:
What kind I usually play, or what I'm playing right now?
Also, what games do you play?
as a WFHchad I'm not subject to such questions
What's the secret? It sounds like every person that works from home is a developer. I'm a systems architect, not a developer, but I got to enjoy 3 years of WFH because of the coof, and now I am desperate to get out of the office.
I'm actually a LARPing student but yeah it seems like your best chance is to be an SWE with highly sought-after skills you can leverage. The second half of that sentence is probably the most important.
The secret is stay on the tools. But it sounds too late for you. Rip.
I just lie to them. You're either going to run into call of dutygay#235351 who loves CoD and plays nothing but AAA shit or "true hardcore gamer xd!" who totally loves dark souls and players super 'sweaty' games like bloodborne.
just fricking don't even bother, none of these fricks are worth it.
video games? aren't those for kids?
>Oh, well then what do you do for fun?
waste time on Ganker
bully adults who play video games
Superior japanese games made by capcom
>what games do you play anon?
>I play map painters
>what's that
>strategy games, the object is to conquer and outsmart your opponent. My family raised me on board games so it's only natural
>ohhhh so like catan? I love catan etc.
just like that
>I play the game
I straight up tell people I play MSFS.
Approach too high. Too much energy tied up in altitude to slow down fast enough.
Having to dip to give energy to gravity and stall onto the pad is poor STOL practice.
A slow flat slope and a stiff yank to set her down is the ideal. Keep practicing, you're almost there.
I bounce around different games, though it seems I always come back to Ikaruga, Downwell, Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed, and if a bro is over we'll play EDF5.
"I don't play games. I spend a lot of time on Ganker.orgGanker though."
I used to lie when I just played PC and Nintendo. Now I just say cross-platform releases like csgo and dark souls/elden ring
I play Binding of Isaac. it's about a naked child who kills poop monsters by throwing his tears at them. then he kills his abusive mother.
what fricking coloured pills have you gays been taking?
>T-t-they’re going to judge me!
>Fricking normies don’t know dwarf fort!
>I lie so they don’t ask further questions
Jesus frick you guys are absolutely chinless, it’s no wonder you’re outcasts and virgins
Uh, dude, videogames have gone mainstream as in, "playing candy crush or clash of clans on your phone". I don't think you understand that 90% of people know about as much of videogames as something like skateboarding. In any remotely professional envrionment, videogames are still far and wide percieved as kiddie or incel crap.
Normies will be normies, the answer is not to engage with them. Just fly under their radar with "hi, how are you? ok im fine too, bye!" and if they try to test you just shrug it off. Make up an anecdote about Angry Birds or something if they're insistent.
I FRICK TWINKS in HARDCORE PORN GAMES while I CRANK MY SHIT
>used to talk to a coworker at my old job about retro games
>he would tell me about the games he was playing through on the snes mini when it came out
>got a new job and haven't spoken to him in years
Hope he's doing ok
>Oh nothing special
NEVER let anyone else into your gaming world. Keep all normies out. Telling them will result in nothing beneficial.
Just say normalgay shit and you'll be fine.
>Oh you know, Elden Ring, Starfield, that kind of stuff...
No one asks me this. Ever. It's always "what have you been up to?" or "what do you do?" or "have you seen ___?"
I just say a little bit of Tekken and bits n bobs
