Other way around, Drakengard was the original game and Nier is the offshoot taking place after one of that game's joke endings
Fun fact, Yoko was told there wouldn't be a sequel, so that's why he went nuts with the endings. Another fun fact, the final """battle""" only made it past QA because they literally didn't have enough time to grind everything out to see it. That's why it seems like bullshit, because it was.

Drakengard's darkness is just more in your face by the end and like the earlier parts of Drakengard Nier's shit is more of a slow burn darkness

Why do people even like Nier: Replicant? It has dated combat, is a grindfest, and way too long. It's not even like the story is phenomenal either.

The setting's honestly just comfier, very much a product of it's time with stuff like Twilight Princess, God of War, and Darksiders all having the same feeling.
