      The whole Souls series
Both Baten Kaitos games have a colorful presentation but once you're deep into the story there's some really dark lore

Nier isn't nearly as dark as Drakengard.

Humanity gets doomed to death in Nier with maybe the Remake’s new ending having the possibility of a new future.
And you are telling me the writer made a prequel even MORE darker than this? The hell is wrong with him?

Other way around, Drakengard was the original game and Nier is the offshoot taking place after one of that game's joke endings

Fun fact, Yoko was told there wouldn't be a sequel, so that's why he went nuts with the endings. Another fun fact, the final """battle""" only made it past QA because they literally didn't have enough time to grind everything out to see it. That's why it seems like bullshit, because it was.

Eh, I'd say they're on the same level.
Drakengard's darkness is just more in your face by the end and like the earlier parts of Drakengard Nier's shit is more of a slow burn darkness

Why do people even like Nier: Replicant? It has dated combat, is a grindfest, and way too long. It's not even like the story is phenomenal either.

The setting's honestly just comfier, very much a product of it's time with stuff like Twilight Princess, God of War, and Darksiders all having the same feeling.

All of Matsuno's games are pretty dark and brutal, Vagrant Story especially.
