Are you getting RPG Maker XP during the RPG Maker festival? Or, will you make the smart choice and spend $2 for the superior RPG Maker 2003?

Anyone that has played or made a game on RPGmaker past the age of 18 will never reproduce.
What if they already have three children? Will you keep cuckin'?
>Are you getting RPG Maker XP during the RPG Maker festival? Or, will you make the smart choice and spend $2 for the superior RPG Maker 2003?
I already own 2003, XP, VX Ace and MV. I guess that leaves VX or 2000. I can wait for a bigger sale on MZ.
For what it is worth, if you can get them dirt cheap, they can be useful tools in getting japanese rpgmaker games to work. For something like 2003 you can just dump the game into a new project and use other tools to rip and replace the jp script.
At 90% off ive gotten my money out of them.
>I already own 2003, XP, VX Ace and MV. I guess that leaves VX or 2000. I can wait for a bigger sale on MZ.
Does that choice really impact the kind of game you can make?
>Does that choice really impact the kind of game you can make?
Each one comes with different free assets. And I think their native sprite tile size goes up as they become newer. AND they use different scripting languages. 2000 and 2003 lean heavy on event editing. XP uses Ruby and MV And MZ use JavaScript.
Uh, 2000 is front facing while 2003 is side facing like FF games.
It all really depends on what you want to do and how much work you want to put into doing it.
oh and MZ is designed to better make games for mobile. Not that I give a shit about making games for phones.
where else would you sell them and see a profit but phones?
>where else would you sell them and see a profit but phones?
china put out a bunch of bullshit ones they sell on steam, adn they make a little on steam sales. They just charge 10 most of the year and then mark them down to 2 on the summer and winter sale and do ok.
Or you could make something truly epic like Symphony of War and sell that on Steam
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1488200/Symphony_of_War_The_Nephilim_Saga/
>So bad, they're giving it away for free
anon, they mark these things down twice a year.
is there any reason to use this version of RPG Maker as opposed to any others? I might just boot up RPG Maker 2 on PS2 just for the nostalgia. XP doesn't seem to offer much in terms of extensibility
>is there any reason to use this version of RPG Maker as opposed to any others? I might just boot up RPG Maker 2 on PS2 just for the nostalgia. XP doesn't seem to offer much in terms of extensibility
define extensibility? you can add onto it with ruby. The two newest versions, also on sale, can be added on to with javascript. I think MZ even has a way to use unity with it.
What exactly do you want to do in an old rpg that you need to add?
could you provide some interesting XP projects that prove this?
>could you provide some interesting XP projects that prove this?
prove what? The coding language you can use to add on to rpgmaker games? Its on the wiki page for each software package.
I don't know about sfw stuff, but there are tons of porn games that use both to add in some sort of kink system, be it interactive sex, body transformations, etc. I recall one that was pretty much harvest moon except you could have sex with your husband and have babies.
Why would I use either when unreal is free also, looks better, runs better, has more assets, is easier to script, and is 20 years more modern?
>using engine that demands royalty fees in any shape or form
you haven't learned from unity, have you?
>runs better
>Why would I use either when unreal is free also, looks better, runs better, has more assets, is easier to script, and is 20 years more modern?
why would you use unreal for a small 2D rpg? Wouldn't that be bloated overkill?
Speaking about RPG maker, are any of these any good to create First person Dungeon crawlers?
If not, does anyone have a recommendation? I know how to code a little in Python.
>irst person Dungeon crawlers
depends, what are you thinking? Like shining in the darkness?
There is probably a way to force it to do that, but its not going to do it out of the box
Something like Wizardry.
>Something like Wizardry.
its technically possible, but none of them do it out of the box
2000/2003 are the peak of the RPG Maker series, XP is at least somewhat tolerable, and whatever new ones are out there are irredeemable garbage
New to RPG maker here, what makes you say that those are the best?
dude's making fizz buzz with a toy program from 20 years ago, just ignore what he says.
Why should I listen to you?
What is the definitive version in your opinion?
>New to RPG maker here, what makes you say that those are the best?
not that anon, but I suspect its because the assets for 2003 and 2000 look 16 bit. They have a comfy look to them. XP and above's stock assets are kind of meh and everyone uses them.
You can technically do more with XP, Ace, etc, but few users do.
go back to your containment thread goburinbro
Didnt goburinbro switch to godot?
>2000/2003 are the peak of the RPG Maker series, XP is at least somewhat tolerable, and whatever new ones are out there are irredeemable garbage
isnt this mostly by lasiness on the behalf of the person using rpgmaker? Couldn't you technically just upscale all the assets of 2003 and use them in XP and above, to keep the classic 16 bit look?
XP was great. The only worse thing about it was the default battle system. That could be fixed with scripts like everything else. XP also was the start of making the art too clean but it wasn't completely ugly compared to later RPG Makers.
You know those people who go to your favorite game-specific forum and say "can someone create a mod for X" as if it's just something to wish for, and be produced, in a matter of minutes? Those are the kind of people who buy this game. They start with one "good" idea and a bunch of shitty ones and then they get wiener-blocked by the learning curve and just give up. Then it's back online to just asking people to create custom content solely for themselves.
where should I download MZ assets (I know a lot are paid, I just want to get started with what's evailable)
>where should I download MZ assets (I know a lot are paid, I just want to get started with what's evailable)
find free porn games made with MZ. Get a MZ decriptor. Rob their assets.
>Get RPG Maker XP for free
>Make simple RPG
>Get enough money to buy RPG Maker 2003
>Make simple RPG
>Get money
Should we tell him or..?
I mean, if he can get steam to host it, it probably will make the $3 required to make 2003
>if he can get steam to host it
You mean if he has $100 to upload his game to Steam? Kind of a roundabout way to do things honestly.
>Are you getting RPG Maker XP during the RPG Maker festival
Why would I get any rpg maker? Its not good for making games.
Is there any reason to get MZ if I already have MV?
