They really should improve upon the trainings room. The dummy gives a false impression of elemental damage because its super weak against anything. Testing Hammer and HH is a pain because it constantly gets stunned, some attacks are even easy to miss (surge slash vortex) or hard to test (hunting edge, pierce)

It really isn't. I'm almost MR 70, and the difficulty is about the same as HR once you've got a few armor sets and a good weapon made. Anomaly quests are certainly harder than their regular counterpart but the difference of HR vs MR mostly just boils down to the monster having 3 or 4 new moves.I've played most main games in the series and the difference in High Rank vs G-Rank was always harder than High Rank vs Master Rank.

Lottery box also has the downside of shuffling your cat's skills whenever it goes off. If you want your cat to have a certain set-up then this actively hinders you for le catonator.
I messed around with the bomb because it does do big damage; but it does not do double damage on sleeping monsters and it does not blow up other bombs around it for some reason.

Kind of? It's one of the easier games in the series and has a lot of QoL, but it's going to be hard to go back and play the older (better) games if you start with it since it's a lot faster paced and action gamey.

I'd say it's the second best for new players after World. World is VERY slow and hand-holdy for the first few hours, which may piss veterans off but it's perfect for new players. Also, the weapons are relatively simple.
Rise on the other hand showers you with an overwhelming amount of tutorials in the first 20 minutes, "now swim good luck". The weapons are the most complex they've ever been; not that you need to master them or anything, the game is very easy in Low Rank and most of High Rank, but the sheer amount of information can be confusing for new players.

Good, locked 60. You can max it out, but remember to keep Resolution Scaling at 100% (it's set to 150% by default) and disable Dynamic Shadows (they're extremely heavy AND they look like shit).

I generally enjoy the expansion. Companions are very fun and I hope they remain a thing in MH but as something optional rather than mandatory during MR quests. Some of these monsters are brand new to me so It's very nice to fight them for the first time. Lance is the best I've ever seen it, and is easily my favourite weapon by FAR. Everything else is just O.K, Armours are uninspired and boring compared to Iceborne MR armour, Lance Weapons are meh tier at best.
My absolute biggest complaint is the fact I haven't failed a single quest all the way up to Astalos and It's not even close. Every fight is short as hell, even as a Lance user and I have never been at real risk of failing a quest while I was genuinely playing. That will hopefully be fixed in Endgame but apparently Endgame is nonexistent and boring, in the same way Tempered were in World.

Almudron's attacks have stupidly large hit boxes and combined with his thrashing around makes him unpredictable and tedious. Magmadron is what happens when a developer gets the negative feedback, gets mad, doubles down, and makes his attacks have even bigger hit boxes that you can't even escape when running away on a palamute. Lesson? Don't get on the bad side of almu-dev.

Bullet Barrage is fricking amazing, it takes some time to learn how to aim it and get how the gap closing works, but it does a shitload of damage and feels powerful

I've thought about that since Rise first came out, Rampage might have actually worked better on the GU version of Lao's map. You could have set up defenses, still had the army of smaller monsters to deal with, all while Lao or Shen Gaoren are slowly marching through the valley.

Most of the non-japanese themed sets look out of place and oddly low poly for some reason but I really love the mizutsune set, including the sword. Well mizutsune is a lovely monster to boot.
Even compared to the 3DS games, the new armor designs mostly looks bad. The majority of armor in Rise and Sunbreak that look decent or good are all just from returning monsters. There's maybe a very small amount of new armor designs that are actually any good.

The gimmick for Afflicted monsters means you don't actually do that much raw damage to them. Lots of the damage comes from destroying the badzones on them for %HP damage.
You deal less damage then World hunters when Fatalis released (aside from new GS or something), they just get dealt 1k damage when you hit specific glowing parts.
They're frenzy and hyper combined, pretty fun aside from how long some hunts can take if you're not careful with the gimmick
I hope by Hyper you don't mean in addition to stupid HP they never tire out either because that was the worst part of Hyper Monsters in GU

The afflicted + Bloodblight also forces you to fight the monster aggressively by punishing passive play and rewarding aggressive approaches, which makes them much more fun than their base versions. Though I don't think I would want to fight these things with other people, since the two possibilities for the quest will shift between 3 LBGgays obliterating the monster regardless of max HP and every single random with a melee weapon carting constantly.

Anon, I performed fricking abysmally on Anomaly Arzuros and spent half the fight wasting like 30 Mega Potions yet I still beat it in under 20 minutes solo.
The health seems big because of large numbers, but you got to keep in mind these two things.

Narwa and Gaismagorm were both incredibly fun fights though, while Narwa's Proof of a Hero is a vocal version and Gaismagorm's was more of a desperate battle than a pump up track which is a new approach in both instances. Then there's the fact that before this game Proof of a Hero had been wasted on easy fights like Dah'ren Mohran anyway, I think you're just being overly critical.

I personally enjoyed world more, but rise is still pretty fun, I dunno why the infected mob grind just isn't gripping me as hard as iceborne's generic grind loop

yes for sure it's pretty great far as g-rank expansions go, rise/sunbreak has one of the strongest rosters in the entire series

I assume, based purely on speculation and the fact each Hunter is riding Palamutes with the same equipment as their armour, that if anything it's one of the armours from the Side Quests and most likely Scholarly. Pure conjecture though.

Unless one has Valstrax (which is unlikely for someone who starts Rise with SB) you are best off making random armor parts in MR.
Unless you want to shorten your experience with base Rise, you should consider playing HR until Allmother though (HR50). If you don't know what to do until HR50 I suggest you to farm materials for decos, you still need them in MR.
The moment you get to MR go mine up a bunch of ores and craft the starting MR gear. It will catch you up fast.
I'm in MR4 and still using my HR gear since I'm too lazy to make new armor. Have to hunt for green spiribirds before fighting the monster though since they hit hard

Prior to them getting world the threads were perfectly fine, none of this gen or console war nonsense. Once world happened they pretty much tried pushing it as the very best game in the series renouncing every game, including the psp titles as "tendie shit".
Then rise came along and blew world out of the water which made things even worse.

90% of the monsters in this game have big fat tails you can only knock a piece off.
Barioth is the only fair monster that progressively gets weaker as you cut his body parts. Also shout out for the fire breathing monsters that sometimes fail to do so when you break their head.
It's funny that despite Fromsoft just stealing this mechanic from Monhun they did more with it gameplay-wise than monhun ever did

I remember when cutting Rathian tail would stop the poisoning, dunno why they decided that didn't matter anymore, but at least it DOES reduce the attack range by a bit

Kushalas wind barrier couldn't be disabled with poison, but with Rise they heavily dumbed down the wind barrier anyway.
I like how Teostra, Kushala and Chameleos armor uses that Megaman concept of being effective against each other, while in World it was just the armor of the monster being effective against itself.
Didn't notice that in base Rise, in HR you could just ignore their blight/status.
