I thought the premise was that Ganon was unstoppable as is and that taking the Master Sword just created a potential future where he could be stopped, even if not in every possible timeline.

      Anonymous

This. Ganon would have taken the spirit stones by force and then the ocarina. Damned if you do damned if you don't.

  2. 2 years ago

The only thing that could stop Ganon was the Master Sword.
    It's a dilemma scenario.

      Anonymous

      An interesting one.
If Link doesn't takes the Master Sword then Ganondorf eventually becomes unstoppable, so even when he reaches the age to take it, Ganondorf defeats him.
If he does he only saves the future timeline, in the past Ganondorf still exists. Of course that's depends on wheter Ganondorf remains in the past or if he also gets to the future when he enters the sacred realm.

  3. 2 years ago

It just would have taken him a bit longer, and if Link didn't have the sword by then, he would have been literally unstoppable.

OoT Link is the most tragic character in the series. A tree and a homosexual owl cuck him into taking the sword with good intentions, only for him to realize ganon never could have entered the sacred realm without him removing it in the first place. he then has to make up for his own mistake by killing ganon and returning to the past to warn zelda, but in turn, all of his exploits are forgotten and he can never prove to anyone the struggle he went through to defeat ganon in the first place. worse still, the adult timeline he travels back from is still in ruin (albeit ganon-less), and even by going back to his childhood and warning zelda, he has no guarantee that things will turn out well. he's basically stuck in an endless loop of trying to undo his own mistake snd nobody will ever recognize him for it.

      Anonymous

I'm pretty sure that OoT doesn't work on splintered reality rules. It's just one young reality and the old reality from pulling the sword. If it was multiple, your doing stuff in the past wouldn't affect the stuff in the future, which clearly isn't the case.

        Anonymous

obviously it isnt just those two realities, or the world would be no different when link went back to zelda after defeating ganon. there was links initial young timeline, the adult timeline, and then a new timeline created by going back to childhood and using his knowledge to inform zelda and try and change the way things happened, diverging from the adult timeline. either way, link had to go back to his childhood after everything that happened and he would have no proof of his exploits. a completely selfless act of heroism that he would never be remembered for. that's pretty sad

        official position of Nintendo is that there's three branches off of OoT;

        1) Adult Link fails to defeat Ganon, Ganon is eventually sealed by the Seven Sages

        2) Adult Link defeats Ganon and he's sealed by the Seven Sages

        3) Child Link foils Ganon's plot before it even happens

Wouldn't that require him to have been killed before he got all the medallions and stormed Gains castle? all the Sages were imprisoned by Ganon, so therefore if he did kill Link in the final fight there would be no seven sages to seal him up.

      Holy cope.
Adventure of Link was literally a direct sequel to the original Legend of Zelda. The plot is that the enemy is trying to revive Ganon. Same Link, same Hyrule but bigger (a piece of AoL's map references LoZ's map).
There has always been a timeline. The vast majority of the canon timeline makes sense, only the placement of the Capcom games is somewhat contrived (because they weren't made with any kind of continuity in mind and were full of random fanservice references).

The rito and zora both exist in BOTW despite WW outright stating all the zoras evolved into birds to keep hyrule hidden. If you follow the stupid historia timelines both cant exist at the same time as only timeline gets flooded and its WWs.
The secret is Nintendo doesnt give a shit about the timelines and just do whatever they think is cool at the moment. They only exist to calm raging autists like (You) down for a short time.
The only headcanon here is people like you who give a bunch of random ass reasons for why both might exist at the same time, none of which are officially backed in the games.

Did you miss the part where Ganon staged a coup and apparently succeeded?

Now, to be sure, Ganon couldn't have taken the Triforce without Link's help, since even if he got his hands on all three spiritual stones and the Ocarina of Time, he still would have to know the Song of Time, which he wouldn't be able to learn unless he tortured it out of Zelda or some shit. And even IF he managed that, there's still the Master Sword acting as the final key, which he would never in a million years be able to touch, let alone pull out. So that right there would end his ambitions, unless he somehow finds another way into the Sacred Realm (kinda like how in ALttP's backstory he sort of just stumbled upon it). But he'd still rule Hyrule since evidently he manages to overthrow the king.

Anon Zelda is Links half sister. The reason his mom(The Queen of Hyrule) put him in the lost woods was becuase she was having an affair and wanted to hide the baby from the King who was trying to have her and the baby killed. This is why Link and Zelda can communicate via telepathy. This is insider information tho. Also there was a Bible written for Zelda in the 90s same as Castelvania. Some of it has been subject to change but it is more or less the same storys that was written down in the 90s

I don't even know what ganondorf *does* yet he somehow takes over everything? Wut. Did making a castle float really cause the dead to rise and the plants on the other side of the world to get big? Stupid ass game.

  16. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

    No.

The only way to stop Ganon was for Link to use the Master Sword, but Link was too young to wield it effectively. So he and the sword were locked away until a time came that this was no longer the case.
Had Link not taken the sword, Ganon's rise to power would be much the same. But he'd have the stones and the sword in his possession instead, making stopping him much more difficult.
Had Link remained in Hyrule, he'd no doubt have been outcast by the Kokiri once he showed signs of aging. and just about everywhere he could have gone was destroyed. There's a very real chance he'd have died before he had the chance to even try to go against Ganon.

Ganon was going to take over Hyrule either way, and the only thing that would have prevented any of it is if his actions had been delayed by seven years beforehand.

Shouldn't anything that happens in the triumphant child timeline rewrite whatever happens in the adult timeline?

So there's now two Links in the child timeline?
You can't have it both ways, either Link goes back and rewrites the future or he goes back to where there's already a version of him, stopping himself from needing to go on his quest thus creating the new timeline.

My personal theory is that the "hero fails" timeline only exists because nintendo wanted to guarantee the official timeline could have never been guess by anyone, at the expense of being fricking moronic.

A split timeline is basic shit when it comes to time travel plots, but the third split literally just relegates 1/3 of the series to being a "what if?" scenario completely unrelated to any time travel crap.

Ganondorf would have still killed the Great Deku Tree, subjected the Gorons to famine, and likely killed Lord Jabu Jabu and Ruto, but he wouldn't have been able to acquire a Triforce piece. Zelda feared that Ganondorf could destroy Hyrule even without a Triforce piece, but Twilight Princess later implies that the Light Spirits would descend to help stop him, which is why he knew they existed and targeted them via Zant.

      Anonymous

What? The light spirits had nothing to do with Ganondorf being stopped. The game itself is frustratingly vague about this (just like it is about a great many things), but Aonuma himself has spelled it out - OoT Link tattled on him, and as a result the castle was ready for his attack and he was blindsided and captured.
