Deep Rock Galactic is a cooperative mining themed wave survival game. It's most similar to a game like Warhammer: Virmintide.

As an example of a typical mission, you'll get sent to an alient planet with three other players (all dwarves, obviously), and told to mine X amount of ore as your mission, or collect X amount of alien eggs, or construct oil mines. As you do this, endless waves of alien bugs attack you. Once you finish the objective, or when everyone dies, you return to the ship and pick a new mission.

you're talking about the wrong game.

It's a vamp survivors clone with mining theme

Vamp survivors was like $3 and I enjoyed it. Why is this game $10 and is it $7 better than VS?

I played the demo and I expected to pay maybe $5 for it.

Probably not unless you care about 3d graphics over pixel/2d

This one review told me all I need to know. It's not ready yet and is a pretty poor entry in the survivor genre even if you like them.

Wish they'd re release the demo cause this games works in UEVR but I'm not gonna buy it without testing it in vr first

There was a demo a few months ago during the Fall NextFest thing. I don't think it's available anymore though, it would be an old build now. The actual game runs a lot better than that old demo did.

      >i have confidence in the devs
      >check dev
      >they have another game in EA
      >so now dev 2 games in EA
      >not even talking about release a fricking VS clone in EA
Yeah, nah, trusting dev who have two ongoing EA games is biggest red flag one can think of.

Gay and superfluous. They aren't confident enough in their game design to release this without the DRG theme to draw in DRG players.

They're just making it as an excuse to stretch their legs and learn new stuff.
Then they'll go back to DRG feeling energized (if a little disheartend that their side project predictably flopped; even though they told themselves it wouldn't sell well, a part of them still thought their success was due to them as people rather than DRG as a concept that they happened to come up with).

      >They're just making it as an excuse to stretch their legs and learn new stuff.
      good for them
everyone would rather they just fricking added more shit to Deep Rock instead of wasting their time making 2 shitty roguelikes, a $200 board game and a $400 warhammer figurine set.

Of course you would, but they get more money doing this so can you really blame them

Ngl i dropped the game when they added those missions where you have to clean up rockpox shit, i really wonder if it's another Darkest Dungeon scenario where the devs just got lucky at making a good game and actually are pants on head moronic

in DRG's case specifically they didn't really have any long-term plans for it in the way that the playerbase wants them to have, they've already been plugging at it for the better part of a decade, and they have inane ideas on how many cosmetics new weapons should have plus the mandatory overclock system means any serious new content will always have a giant asterisk of "all that extra work on top of the weapon itself" attached to it

i do very much think it has the chops to be an amazing, test-of-time game but the developers don't want to work on it anymore out of boredom or disinterest

even in its current state though DRG isn't gonna be forgotten easily and there's no telling whether they'll come back to it or not after rogue core is done since they pretty much dropped all DRG development to do RC

Honestly i would be fine if they just added a simple honest to god horde mode, i'm tired of doing tedious tasks when the gunplay is actually good

DRG: Survivor is made by a different studio. Ghost Ship is just publishing it.
Ghost Ship devs are working on DRG: Rogue Core.

it's not DRG devs, this is a newbie dev with DRG licensing. The whole thing started because one of DRG devs started talking with a random dev on a con or expo or something and they both started gushing about how much they love Vampire Survivors and this is the result. They talked about it in one of the first streams where they announced it

It's ok. Just a nice little DRG spin off. Nothing amazing. If you like DRG and aren't one of those b***hes malding about slow seasonal content you can enjoy it just fine.

I'm new to the genre so idk how it compares to other auto-shooter games, but I'm enjoying it.
It's a small game and relatively simple, but addicting.

I'm enjoying the game and think its fun but I'm not sure how they are gonna compete with out survivor games and attract anyone other than deep rock fans. I feel like the limited classes will hold the game back really hard compared to other survivor games unless they decide to expand pass the original 4 of the base game.

    It's okay for $10.
moronic it doesn't have co-op but it won't bother anyone here.

Its fun. they've integrated the DRG weapons and mechanics in a fun and interesting way for this type of game. feels very in world.

Terrible. Very limited arsenal, boring "5% more damage" type upgrades that don't change gameplay and feels very shallow without the co-op sort of elements from the original.

I immediately lost interest when Rogue Core was announced. If I want a DRG roguelike then I'm going for the one that actually plays like DRG.

Is there a crack yet? I'm not paying $10 for an inferior clone to an already existing game.
Sorry GSG. I love DRG, but I'm not about to mindlessly pay for brand name products.
