    Another would spring up immediately, just like net battle, and shoddy battle, and pokemon online, and pokemon showdown. TPCi is clearly fine with it as it's all in one place and not costing them any more.

      Kaito Arii, Japan nats champion plays showdown and he’s ranked top 10 on showdown ladder. Many Japanese players play it to keep tabs on what the meta development is outside Japan

    I once heard that Showdown has an unofficial agreement with TPCi that they won't get C&D'd as long as they don't add certain features that TPCi considers threatening to their business.
    I could never find any proof of this, though.
