      I'm with here. as someone who loves gen 8 to the point of thinking it's the best mainseries game, the only real way to fix it is to make it story mode and den only. that shit was not fit for pvp.

          oh sure!
          some of it is definitely British bias, but I really do enjoy sword and shield because it felt like it balanced everything perfectly.
          The dex has a lot of great designs in it, and it gave new forms to pokemon that desperately needed a touch-up like Corsola, Farfetch'd, and Linoone, and it had some overall bangers in it like Grookey, Orbeetle, Drednaw, the entire Applin Line, Polteageist, Copperajah, Stonjouner, Eiscue, Dragapult, Runerigus, the Fossils, and Barraskewda.
          The gym challenges were enjoyable and had some pretty unique examples in their things, even Melony's, which I dislike for being super annoying, is a great use for something they've never been able to use before, being the rumble feature.
          the fact we got a dark type gym leader after so many years is amazing, and they didn't even inherently make him "evil" in any way (also emo boy is great).
          Hottest take here, but I genuinely think Hop is the greatest rival (after tierno) because in my honest opinion he's the only character in this series to truly have "growth", he went from being in his older brothers shadow, to rethinking his life, and then realised that he has other aspirations in his life than pokemon battling, and finally became his own person.
          The routes were simple, sure, but the fact that we got an open-world area that doesn't feel like a giant fricking slog to traverse like S&V, alongside the traditional route system, makes exploring the region a lot better.
          Seeing a wienery orphan with a vegeta complex getting vibe checked by an old lady was one of the funniest things I've ever witnessed in this series
          And finally, the dex cut, while depressing, was a gigantic breath of fresh air to the metagame when the game launched. hell, shit like DURANT was viable in OU for a few months. (then the dlc came out and ruined it but oh well.)

            I can appreciate Hop's character arc too, but why the frick do you think Tierno's the greatest rival? He's such a nothing character that I can't understand the appeal at all, to the point that reading that immediately made me think your post had to be bait.

              nah you don't understand, as a man with crippling anxiety, tierno to me is the ultimate rival. why? cause he's literally the ONLY RIVAL that I know of that actually had a backup plan/side hobby, that being dancing. and I respect a man that has options.

              also his design is one of those "so bad it's good" things tbh.

      Dynamax exists for no other purpose than to fill the Mandatory Marketing Gimmick slot. It was a big flashy "feature" to sell the game in trailers, and they could sell Dynamax Band toys. Unlike Mega Evolution and Z-Moves, there was zero creativity behind the mechanics, as proven by the fact that it's only available during boss fights (because they couldn't be bothered to even attempt to balance it).

    Cap the speed max move to the same as the attack boosting 1s.
    Health increase is now 1/3 not double at 10 bars.
    Id also remove it from raids it has the same energy as

    TL;DR: Stall player Access in the Campaign slightly, Revamp level system to make each individual stage feel more signifigant and more tied to story progression (since that decides what level of raids you have available) and make it feel like you mon is actually getting more proficient in the Dynamax form, add some logical drawbacks to sell the BIG AND SLOW,.

    Dyna was the best gimmick. I would maybe lower the base power of the higher end moves though, 150 BP is too much it should max like 140

      I do agree with this. As nice as tera is for giving another defensive option outside of switch or Protect, the flexibility that Dynamax brought to team building was just too good. You didn't need to bring a dedicated anti-sleep option, you could just bring something with a fairy or electric move and set up terrain. You didn't need dedicated speed control, you could just bring something with a normal or flying move. It really helped for broadening the number of Pokemon you could choose from, and it's telling that in Series 10, the one that banned Dynamax, the meta was HYPER centralized on like 12 Pokemon, as opposed to 50 you were seeing in Series 8, 9, and 12.

    Remove Gigantimax. Have the double health only happen when playing in doubles. Dynamax was actually a great and fun mechanic in doubles, it just broke singles. Gigantimax formes had the same problem megas did of forcing you to play and teambuild around a small group of especially powerful mons, which defeated the idea behind the universal nature of dynamax.
