So I finished Dread.
I played Metroid Prime like 5 years ago and I hated Prime. Tried Prime 2 after I finished Prime and that game was even worse.
Today I looked at same gameplay from Other M and it notice it's made by Team Ninja, the guys who made Nioh 1-2 and Ninja Gaiden. The gameplay looks way better than Prime. Why do people hate Other M?
Should I give it a try?

The story is the biggest complaint but the gameplay also sucks. You are forced to use a Wii Remote sideways as your controller and need to point to the screen to use missiles.
The entirety of Other M is terrible. It LOOKS okay, but that's the entire problem: style over substance, cranked up to 11.
Think if they made a Zelda game but made Link cower in fear from seeing Ganondorf and huddling up into a ball on the ground and having to be saved by some random person. How would you react to that?
There are legitimate gamplay complaints but they get drowned out by the insanely lame not muh samus crowd. Tune them out and try to listen to the actual criticism.

Sakamoto was dumb enough to push for a 3D action game being exclusively controlled by a fricking sideways Wiimote, the dodge mechanic is braindead mashing levels of casual, the concentration mechanic lets you refill your health whenever and casualizes the game even more, it has first person pixel hunt sections (which are also the only way to fire missiles), and it's somehow even more linear than Fusion. And don't get people started on the story and characterization.
Other M has 3 good qualities - power bombs are satisfying to use, it's the only 3D entry with shinesparking, and I suppose it isn't the worst looking Wii game in terms of graphics. Otherwise, you're better off playing literally any other Metroid game. Now here's a piece of 3D bimbo ZSS art genuinely worth more than Other M is.

Its a 3D combat system where you use side-ways Wiimote and its D-Pad to move around.
There is a dodge move with a ton of i-frames that triggers if you tap ANY d-pad direction while an attack is incoming.
The most depth the combat system has to mastering it is to just mash D-Pad to dodge everything while charging up a shot.

Hell I don't even think you can call copy pasted hallways "Level design". It's pretty obvious they spent so much dev time on the story and cutscenes and everything else just got thrown together.
the only good thing of other M is anthony higgs, even if i let slide the adam "no weapon upgrades until i say so", so samus doens't go in areas that should not early on, why not defensive upgrades? why not allow varia + gravity in a go? why the frick adam let alone samus venture into pyrosphere zones taking heat damage? ANY other metroid game if you wander into any zone like that you know you need to go back until find the upgrade to travel on hazardous areas. Everbody else has voiced other valid criticism

I think the dodge mechanic had to be that lenient because of how you get caught in transition with the wiimote switching

No it fricking isn't man. What part of completely linear, no platforming, insta take down moves with long ass animations, auto aiming beams, 120 frames of invuln dodging means "isn't too bad". Game might as well play itself with how automated everything is. And maybe they shouldn't have done the vertical wii mote shit then? It's a flawed game no doubt but it's pretty good, just not an all time classic. It gets a bad rap because it treats Samus as "vulnerable" instead of "badass" and because it's fairly linear like say Fusion because it's story based.
It's not a traditional metroid but it's good and IMO better than Fusion, MP3 and Samus Returns remake. Federation Force is another game that gets a bad rap, I also prefer it over MP3..

Metroid is my favorite series and while Other M is a weak entry in it, it didn't ruin anything. It didn't stop the other games from existing. There is no reason to be butthurt about it over a decade later.

I had my reasons, though... Commander Adam Malkovich was normally cool and not one to joke around, but he would end all of his mission briefings by saying, "Any objections, Lady?" He was joking, but others weren't... At the time I felt surrounded by people who treated me like a child or used kid gloves because I was a woman.
And yet, with Adam, I was grateful for the nod... My past has left me with an uneasy soul, and as a result, it touched me on some level that Adam would acknowledge that past by calling me something delicate—like "Lady." And I knew more than anyone that every word from Adam was deliberate. My thumbs-down was a twofold response—a sign of derision at being called a lady, and a signal of my complete understanding of the mission orders. This, even if you have literally nothing to do for the like 10 hours it takes to complete I'd recommend doing anything else or playing any other game. Hell you could play any other Metroid game once or twice even instead.
