          Shill response.

You could make a worse game by writing random code that doesn't compile, but lets not get it twisted: the game is truly awful and its setting is entirely unoriginal. Every second you play, you have to remind yourself that this company lied to you and tried to scam you. Literally. Genuinely. Ketchup and Mustard. Read Neuromancer on a coke binge and ascend yourself, son.

By now it's a decent FPS rpg. It's no masterpiece, but if you go in blind with no massive expectations, you might even wonder what the fuss was all about. I enjoy taking in the Night City scenery and playing the guitar in one of the mid-end purchasable apartments while it's dark and raining outside is really comfy.

Yeah, if you enjoy taking in the atmosphere of the world and god forbid, roleplaying a bit, I think CP2077 is a decent sci-fi shooter. There's loads of options when it comes to combat and exploring the city with side-quests or on your own is pretty fun. Keep in min that the combat feels rather arcade-like, since everyone has a health bar, and there's damage numbers when you fire your guns/melee weapons, use your hacks etc. Might be a turnoff for some people.
I can't recommend it at the full price, but I'd say 20-25 dollars would be ideal. If you sail the high seas, then it's no issue.

              >everyone has a health bar, and there's damage numbers when you fire your guns/melee weapons
You can turn off both of those. Hell, with mods you can pretty much disable the HUD entirely if you want maximum atmosphere.

STALKER was written by a child, programmed by a man with Parkinson's, and the levels were designed by someone slowly dying of a brain tumor. It is only due to the atmosphere, which I can only guess was hammered out by some sort of Slavic demigod, and it carries all three games with herculean strength.

Game development has always been a pit. Play CP2077 if you think it looks good. I personally like the characters.

Cyberpunk is extremely underrated because of the hype it had and failure of a release. Just played it for the first tor recently and absolutely loved it. Writing is great, graphics are top tier, and the gameplay isn't bad at all. It's 100% worth playing if you get it free or cheap.

It's *literally* a Far Cry clone. It's a looter shooter with a million 'bandit outposts' across the map

For $20 you're not going to get a better rpg experience. There's literally nothing better out there right now that I haven't already played.

You could play with a shotgun berserker run and gun type build. High mobility, damage, resistance, etc. It's pretty fun. Just gotta clear all the points of interest on the map to make money to afford the best cybernetic implants. Do the main quests later, the main quest line is way too short.

                Anonymous

                >way too short
I disagree, while it is definitely short, I felt way more willing to replay the game knowing I didn’t have to commit 60 hours to get to that one part I like

                Anonymous

The shotguns are really fun. In general the weapons are super well rendered and in my opinion feel good to shoot. They also have like 6 different reload animations for each weapon so it feels a bit more “realistic”.
The cars are also AWESOME, driving the Akira motorcycle in first person dodging and weaving through traffic is a trip.
It’s by no means the best game ever but it’s at its best if you aren’t overly hyping up your expectations.

First person motorcycle driving is the only way I could play after trying it. The driving controls actually feel better in first person which is rare.

It's actually not a bad game at all. I for one actually enjoy playing it. Quickhacking builds make the game literally moronic easy, but some of that has been fixed by gating off some of the legendary cyberdecks until later levels in the game. There also some things that are blatantly unfinished. It's pretty obvious that you supposed to be able to join MaxTac and Trauma Team, but it was just totally cut from the game save for a couple npc dialogue cues and the one entry mission during the clothing store robbery. Driving is also hot dog shit. Secret ending is far and away the best mission in the game.

                Anonymous

To add, it is patently obvious the Keanu Reeves shit was almost entirely bolted on after the fact, and the person who was actually supposed to be stuck in your head was Jackie the entire time. Johnny was more than likely supposed to be a only cameo mission to find Alt as part of the Voodoo Boys quest line. Game would have been a thousand times better if Jackie was the voice in your head instead of Johnny.

No, this is definitely not that. Explain to me why Arasaka suddenly gives a shit about Johnny enough to put him on a prototype Relic whose entire purpose in the goddamn story is to make Saburo Arasaka immortal? Why have Jackie insert it into his head first? Why not just have V do it from the jump? It wouldn't have mattered from a story perspective at all...unless it was absolutely meant to and was cut from the game to forcibly insert "muh John Wick". The only groups in the game that give two shits about Johnny Silverhand and his relationship to Alt are Netwatch and the Voodoo Boys. I would even go as far as to say that you were going to be able to join Netwatch after the mall assault, and the legendary Netdriver cyberdeck you can somehow randomly purchase at a shop was supposed to be a reward at the end of the Netwatch questline.

Because that wasn't THAT chip's job, that was the PROJECT'S JOB. Also, Johnny's memories are either lies or wrong; Spider was the one who used Soulkiller on him when Adam Smashed him.
It's touched on in the game, but the version of events from CP RED is correct.

Again...no. The game makes it very, very clear that this was a one-off project overseen by Saburo Arasaka himself. The Relic program at the "consumer" level is to for rich people to digitize their psyche to live "forever", but is really a tool for corporate espionage by Arasaka. Again, this is heavily implied in the game. There is dialogue after you kidnap Anders Hellman to support this (he literally says the above almost verbatim). Hellman is the one working with Yorinobu to steal the chip and sell it to the Chinks (Kang Tao). If they wanted to know what Silverhand knows, THEY ALREADY HAVE HIM IMPRISONED BENEATH ARASAKA TOWER AND HAVE SO FOR 50 FRICKING YEARS
Again, why have Jackie put the fricking thing in his head during the prologue for no fricking reason? V ends up with in in his head anyways, so why no just do that? BECAUSE THEY TOTALLY RE-WROTE THE FRICKING STORY AROUND KEANU REEVES

But, then some CDPR troony thought it would be an amazing idea to have him in the entire game, so they cut a shitload of content and shoe-horned him into the game in the most shitty possible way. And for the record, I actually like the game. I've put 300+ hours into it but to say that it's not painfully obvious the story was supposed to be completely different and have much, much less Keanu Reeves in it is disingenuous at best.

They obviously did though. The prologue is the hint. Why have Jackie stick the chip in his head at all if it was going to end up in V's head 10 minutes later? Why specifically make an animation of his his eyes changing color to blue (like the blue eyed man sprinkled in the game) after he does to indicate that SOMETHING happened when he did? If Johnny was in fact the co-main character in the game, why was he mentioned literally once in the prologue, and even then only on reference to a drink you ordered at the Afterlife? Why even have Jackie in the game at all if he's just going to vanish after the prologue? They spent a lot of time and writing effort building him up as an important character to then completely cut him from the game

They just wanted to make his death have an impact. Keanu was always meant to be the face of the game. They would have signed a big contract with him for the amount of voice acting hours needed far in advance. Something like that is not a last minute decision moron.

You seem to view immersion things as the only metric to game quality rather than a nice thing that was added to a game.
Red dead only has all those details because they came at the expense of gameplay, so while it looks amazing, it plays like a game that came out in 2006.

Not at all, but what else is there? Skill trees are boring "+5% handgun crit" most of the time and useless most of the other (half the time knocking an enemy down from above didn't work and required several save reloads just to be positioned juuuuust right), most sidequests are "go to a Maelstrom warehouse and kill everyone" and most main quests play the exact same way regardless of any choice you might think you're making
Besides you're disingenuous if you don't see how CDPR themselves boasted on the game being "the next step in immersive action adventure". Hell look at this

As someone who played and generally enjoyed Cyberpunk on a non-poorgay PC at launch, and then played it again recently just to check up on it, DO NOT listen to people recommending it, especially if you're looking for something as engaging as STALKER. Cyberpunk is a theme park ride. It looks fricking amazing, and that's the thing that's going to pull you in despite everything else. Walking around the city and seeing everything for the first time is really cool. If you're lucky, you'll start to see the seams unravelling as late as 20 hours in. You will be approaching every scenario, kill every bad guy (complete with moronic, unengaging AI), the exact same way for your entire playthrough. Maybe if you can find it for 20 bucks it might be worth it, but otherwise you're better off looking elsewhere.

Cyberpunk 2077 is fairly story focused and cinematic, although the side quests are pretty freeform.

Pirate it. It hasn't been properly updated by CDPR in more than half a year. Their "next gen" update was hilariously bad, and every thing they do to fix the utter trainwreck of an engine just fricks it more.

That said, IF you get it for "free" or around $5, it's a pretty good game. It's definitely not worth full price, or even half-price, but it's still pretty fun for what it is. If you go in knowing that it's a linear looter shooter with some lite RPG dressing, you'll love it. Don't expect any of your choices to matter, don't expect the loot system to not be utter trash, and don't expect balance.

This has to be a troony Discord psy-op, right? I understand enjoying the game to an extent, but to outright refuse to admit the glaring issues in Cyberpunk's design philosophy is delusional. And no, to be explicit, I'm not talking about the glitches. Non-poorgays have had the game available to play just fine since launch.

And now we're arguing that having ways to interact with the city outside of trying to glitch your way onto rooftops and running across a district to buy a car isn't important? Fricking Duke 3D had more ways to interact with the environment than this game. If interaction is so unimportant, why even make it an open-world game? The whole point of open-world is to waste your time getting "immersed." If you're not going to let the player do that, make it a real video game instead.

Consider learning the difference between “sandbox” and “open world”, many games do both, some do one.
GTA , Skyrim and red dead are open world sandbox games
Halo 3 is a linear sandbox game
Cyberpunk and mass effect are open world games but NOT sandbox.
Granted cyberpunk added in sandbox elements because people wanted them, but that was never the priority.

Ok, so the difference is that the game is designed to have a bunch of empty space you're forced to move through to get to the actual fun stuff? This is a completely arbitrary distinction you just made up, and is so moronic you'll have to excuse me for suspecting you're just trying to get a rise out of me. There is literally nothing tangible separating this game from Skyrim in terms of genre.

Also, Mass Effect is not even remotely an open-world game in the way that term is commonly understood. It's like calling KotOR an open-world game because it has a few unconnected hub worlds.

I’ll completely own mass effect was a bad example. But I do think it’s important to not use sandbox and open world as interchangeable terms.

If you're looking for something half as immersive or atmospheric as RDR2, Cyberpunk ain't it. You think you'd be able to sit in random food stands or drink something in a nightclub, take in the atmosphere?
It's all a facade, as long as you don't look into things too deep you'll be fine. But it's definitely not immersive and barely an RPG.

          >opens the generic vendor inventory
You don't drink anything, you buy a .jpg that's added to your inventory
There will be a handful of moments where V can actually sit down and eat something and it's tied to a main quest, like with Takemura pre-parade

Seems like your mind is telling you something. Maybe it wants you to go to a real bar and socially interact with people instead of trying to do it in a game.

I don't play most open-world games entirely for this reason. I don't enjoy wasting time. Unfortunately for Cyberpunk, having to drive from one end of the city to the other in order to get to the part where I actually play the game is also wasting time. So who is the bigger loser here? The guy who likes to waste his time walking down the same street hundreds of times, or the guy who likes to waste his time roleplaying?

I did enjoy it to a degree, but my point is that the activity of driving does not occupy a space that other theoretical immersion-based activities in the game do not. Driving around a city that barely interacts with you is fun until you've seen everything. The game is beautiful and the city is designed very well. But there really is no excuse to create an environment that big and give you nothing to do in it besides drive and beat up thugs with terrible AI.

This is an excellent point I never would've thought of phrasing this way. A good open world is there for you to lose yourself doing things you don't do while in the main path. But with Cybernut you shoot and loot in both cases, there's nothing else of note.

Wait until they release the expansion. According to a datamine leak it'll include a new branching path to the main story that'll lead to a new ending. Otherwise this game sometimes barely feels like an rpg (especially after act 1), but this branching path might help.

It's very frightening what companies will get away with in future if people are such consumer prostitutes that they're willing to lie about the reality of not only games piss poor performance, but the lies they campaigned on, the deception and just general let down for what was promised compared to what we actually got.
