THIS. Been playing through DP lately and when I realized a lot of the sprites got updated, like Lopunny did, there's just no going back man. DP's sprites are so bad in comparison to Platinum's

My favorite is when people make tierlists, and put Platinum near the top and DP near the bottom even though they're 80% the same game. Platinum still builds most of its identity off of DP.

Every pokemon game is buggy but those before gen 6 are buggy in a fun way, as in, you actually need to look for glitches for them to happen. Yes, even in gen 1.
In gens 6+ the games are actually unfinished and soft lock you or wipe your save file just from playing normally, especially at launch.
I tweaked myself into a corrupt save file about 8 months into my Diamond file just messing around while not knowing about the glitch. Shut the frick up, you clearly don't know what you're talking about.

Larger dex size provides more needed team building variety without compromising on ecosystem consistency (see gen 6). Not to mention letting you use the new crossgen evos during the maingame itself. I wouldn't really mind if DP locked most of the new crossgen evos for lore reasons to the postgame assuming there's an actual postgame but they only give you a battle tower and a new area to explore, it's not Kanto. So Platinum made the right call.
Shifting Fantina to the 3rd gym and the overall reworking of the region progression improves level curve and fills in an otherwise empty first half of the game.
Aesthetic changes giving Sinnoh more personality and making the UI more visually interesting.
Wayyyy faster game engine.
Battle Frontier.
Better story, more development for Cyrus, integrating Giratina.
I think Platinum is a bit overrated because it still has the same fundamental issues with Sinnoh's plot and region design, but it's basically the only third version that justifies its existence.

Something I found out recently is that every single trainer in DP has completely random AI.
I suppose it's still a vanilla Pokémon game either way but it's still kind of laughable
It’s not completely random, it just doesn’t take its attacking moves’ damage output into account
Status move logic is unaffected and it won’t use ineffective moves, but it won’t prioritize the move that would do the most damage to you over the others
Looking into the leaked source code we got our hands on in 2020 I found this was due to a part of the AI’s code being commented out (pic related). Uncommenting it makes the AI not use status moves whatsoever because it will always prioritize its highest damage offensive move, which is probably why they commented it out. But the bug is pretty obvious, instead of incrementing the highest damage move by one it should decrement all damage moves that aren’t the highest damage by one. I found that doing that fixed the bug.
While it does make the game normally easier because the AI won’t always use its strongest move when it could kill you, it actually makes it harder for things like speedruns and nuzlockes where you will often rely on predicting the opponent’s move (e.g. for a switch)
Both are shitty as frick games that added dogshit pokemon and a homosexual rival and you just go around everywhere on the map trying to find the right random npc to talk to and add another dogshit 0 damage hm you have to use constantly and in dp it takes 45 minutes for the hp bar to deplete after using 1 attack so it makes you want to have a nice day rather than play this actual fricking shit created by frickin super morons.
