The combat is quite straightforward, is introduced in game by five hours of tutorials, and the basis of it has been stable for 25 years (including SMT). The optimal personas to use at which point are determined one month after the release of each game. You can wither look those up or guess by yourself playing without meta knowledge.
The time management over long periods is good gameplay but doesn't lend itself to much discussion.

It's kind of a you've played one you've played them all so yeah maybe coming in just get the newest iteration but having played 3 and 4 I had no need for 5. I agree that P3 is better in all those regards, but P4 is special to me in that I actually cared and gave a damn about the Investigation Team and felt fully immersed in Inaba. By the time Snowflakes started playing, I had grown so attached that I just never wanted it to end and was in tears by the end when the train left the station. In contrast with P5, I couldn't wait for that game to be over and felt like it was completely pointless and a huge smack to the face when Maruki shows up all happy and everyone's cool with it, made it feel like the whole last arc was completely pointless. I've played a lot of RPGs over the years, and almost none of them really made me feel as much as I did while playing P4, so that's why I consider it on the same caliber as P3 despite you being right about P3 doing those things much better. Its just soulful as frick.

The difference is, the cast of 4 are people I would actually like to hang out with irl, assuming I was a Japanese school child, whereas all of 5 and most of 3's cast I would not. It also feels like being part of a tight-knit friend group, rather than just a bunch of disparate people forced together by circumstance, and that comes together with the isolated country setting to give the game a real cosy vibe.

In P4, if you aren't a shitter you'd clear the dungeons the first day they were available then go back to grinding social links and stats.
The door unlocking in P5 ensured you had a bare minimum of integration of the main story dungeons into your schedule beyond "you miss one preestablished day every month and a half".

You seem concerned by the effects of romance. I can guarantee that it's essentially zero (a cutscene near the end of the game). The rest of the script is totally unchanged and there are no gameplay bonuses compared to maxing social links as friends.
All persona games suffer from the same problem that it would be too complex for fatlus to dynamically change the script of the main story and side quests depending on where you are on s links.
In persona 4 dating naoto was very worthwhile for me, scenes like having her dress like a woman, talk with a more feminine voice, etc, you would never see that if you didn't romance her, so i want to know what people think is the most fulfilling romance in 5.

Awful. It is completely deficient as a game. There is almost none of the management and social aspects of P>2, it's a dungeon crawler with long cutscenes in between.
Emphasis on "crawler", the game(s) is some of the most extreme slog ever conceived. You fight endless random battles every three or four steps. Those battles are piss easy by themselves and the game simply counts on a hundred of them going through a corridor will slowly grind you. Overall it is still easier than later games.

There is a cool system where you use rumors to set up side quests and discounts on stores.
The setting and story is great and wacky.

The must-have games are 3, 4, and 5. 1 and 2 are good but for all intents and purposes a separate series made by a different team.
You can play 3/4/5 in any order. There are a few small cameos to past games, but nothing story-relevant. Each game has its own unique style along with pros and cons that are too complex to get into here. I suggest going with the one that appeals to you the most and then playing the other 2.
The proper way to play 3 is the FES version, which was only released for PS2 (also available digitally for PS3), but can be emulated with minor graphical issues, an undub, and QoL mods, although I wouldn't personally recommend mods. There is also P3P and Reload, both remakes that have their own merits, but lack certain content and should be avoided until FES is beaten. There is little reason to bother with the original release of Persona 3, FES is a straight upgrade.
The proper way to play 4 is Golden, originally on Vita and then ported to PC and modern consoles. Purists will argue that the original P4 (PS2) has better pacing and visuals, but the sheer amount of content added to Golden makes it the definitive version, for better or for worse.
The proper way to play 5 is Royal, originally on PS4 and then ported to PC and modern consoles. However, all versions except the PS4 original are based on the inferior and censored Chinese version, although those changes can be undone with mods. Like with Golden, there is an argument to be made that the original Persona 5 (PS3/PS4) is better in some slight ways, but the content added to Royal is too important to miss.
There are a shitload of spinoffs that are entirely optional that I won't get into. If you want to play 'oldsona' I suggest the PSP remakes. 2 is split into 2 games called Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment, and unlike the sequels the three tell a linear story and should be played in order. There's also Catherine, an unrelated game made by the same team as 3/4/5.

Either back out and try to build a team with elemental attacks strong against each team of bots, or just say frick it and cheese it with Izanagi no Okami Picaro and then immediately toss him.
Also it's a lot easier if you've been playing the Darts minigame to boost your Baton Pass levels.
I'm thinking about setting up something for it with the elemental attacks if I can't get passed it, I might cheese it with the free DLC persona or change the difficulty i tired the Darts minigame, and fricking hated it playing PS4 ver on PS5 and to use the controller to aim has to be the worst thing about the game.
You shouldn't have too much trouble with the thin robots but the bulky ones are a sudden difficulty spike out of nowhere. Short of grinding ten levels above expected at this point of the game the only solution is too fuse/level personas to have both Haru and Ren attack all enemies with psy attacks (so mapsy) which you shouldn't have at that point because psy was useless until then.
Or just take an afternoon in mementos and come back after grinding a bit (grinding is very fast in P5R since you just auto win anything below your level). You'll most likely need it to fuse anyway, and might as well do everything you can in mementos up to that point.
This is another option i have been thinking about I'm lvl 45 so i might just do that.
